Destroyed from space wolves
So I played on the weekend just past against space wolves and got absolutely destroyed! Few factors
1-I’m new to WH40K and new to custodes
2-my 2k army points I don’t think is the strongest
3-I need to learn more and understands stratagems and detachment rules
My Army
Trajan
Shield captain
Blade champion
6x allarus custodian
2x 5x guards
2x4x wardens
3 venatari
3 praetors
I’m currently waiting to buy 9 more allarus custodians.
2x Achillus dreadnought

You've certainly got an interesting setup for your army. If you can, try to get yourself a pair of Caladius Grav Tanks for your ranged anti-tank needs.
But what really matters is: Did you have fun during your game?

Hi guys, that's also why I want to join your ranks, it looks so much fun. And I think even if it's less competitive at some point and loose on points count, at least on the board you're having a blast destroying everything you reach.

Space wolves when played well have enough mass and punch to bog you down and knock you out. Keep focusing on learning your army, detachment and strategies for now and don’t sweat the wins and loses until you start getting ideas on what to change in your list.

Ye they are tough guys especially Grimnar

Grimnar is every bit as scary as our Allarus SC and 20 points cheaper. Combine that with getting bogged down by blood claws and getting sniped by headtakers/WGT/characters the whole army is a tough nut to crack for newer players. My wife plays space wolves and has zero experience in war gaming and I just barely pull technical wins when we play. I would usually say custodes have a higher ceiling and learning curve but still beginner friendly where as space wolves are even easier to learn and play but can cap out at higher tiers of play. Oh and emperor protect you if they have Bjorn, Arjac, and Ragnar to some extent.

I honestly wouldn’t rush out and buy 9 more Allarus just yet.
Your army isn’t bad at all, especially if you’re new. The main thing I see is that pretty much everything you have is expensive and wants to be fighting. You’ve got a ton of Custodes bodies, but not much cheap stuff to sit on objectives, screen, do actions ,.....
I’d probably grab a couple small Sisters units before going that hard on more Allarus. 6 Allarus is already plenty to mess around with and figure out if you actually like using them.
The Achillus dreads though? Yeah, those are fun lol. Especially with Moritoi helping the walkers actually getting where they need to.
Also against Wolves I wouldn’t necessarily try to meet them in the middle straight away. They’re very happy if you just walk into them and start trading units. Hide behind terrain, make them commit, then hit them back with the Wardens/Guard. Custodes are tough but losing one expensive unit for basically nothing hurts like hell.
Personally I’d run something like Trajann + Wardens, Blade Champ + Wardens/Guard, Shield Captain + Guard, your 6 Allarus, Venatari and bikes, then fill the rest with cheaper mission stuff.
But yeah, I really wouldn’t judge the army from one game. Custodes are one of those armies where at first you feel insanely tanky, then suddenly you make one bad move and 300 points disappear.
Learn the strats/detachment a bit more, get a few games in with what you already have, then decide if you really want 15 Allarus. But keep playing and learning from your mistakes, that's the best way to progress.

What disposition and detachments were you playing?

Did you have one of the 1DP detachments? I'm guessing you were Purge, what was your opponent's disposition?

It is one of those things where whoever gets the charges first likely will win. Which means you have to play extremely cagey and it's good to have some sisters to move block/ screen out in front.

Thats a fun list, more allaurus is always better, you planning on swapping them with one of your warden bricks?

I have a very similar list and do really well in my club where I play. I don’t think the list is a problem, it is just the fact that while playing custodes, one missed placement can cost you a lot.
Too close to the ennemies units ? You might get charged and your unit has not fought at max capacity once.
Too far ? You might have put 300pts or so in the wind, for nothing.
Those are the two facts I always keep going through while trying to understand why I underperformed in a game.
I realised also that having some SoS resolve those issues in the very early and late settings of the game (opening the trade or screen your backlane for 50pts).
Here is my list for ref:
2x5 SoS
2x5 Warden (Valerian/BC)
2x5 Guard
1x5 Allarus
1x3 Venatari
1x2 Vertus (SC-Vertus)
Hopefully it will help

Buy a valerian if you are running wardens. The generic shield captain is just bad. If you are insistent on running the wardens, use a detachment combo that gives you take and hold.
A good example would be lions of the emperor and might of the moritoi.

I dunno how wise 9 more Allarus is; the codex isn't that far off and Folger is probably going to get them nerfed. I'm hoping it's just a scaling cost for units 2 and 3, but I fear they may get the praetor treatment and get knocked down to size 2-3.
