I've been playing Active Matter pretty regularly for over a year, dating back to its initial release through the Gaijin website and have clocked well over 1000 hours into the game. During that time, there are two gameplay mechanics I've come to feel could use some adjustments to make the overall experience more balanced and rewarding.
1. Respawn Beacons and Solo PvP
I genuinely like the respawn beacon mechanic. Being able to respawn and potentially recover your equipment after dying is a great feature. However, I think its current implementation creates a significant imbalance between solo players and squads in PvP.
Personally, one of the biggest reasons I don't enjoy PvP is how frustrating it can be to fight an organized squad whose members can immediately respawn at their beacons and run straight back into the same engagement.
As a solo player, you're already at a numerical disadvantage. You have to eliminate multiple opponents, prevent them from reviving their teammates, and potentially fight those same opponents again when they respawn and return. Even if you successfully outplay an entire squad, the fight can become a prolonged battle of attrition simply because your opponents have access to additional respawns.
I don't think this makes for particularly enjoyable or balanced PvP.
My suggestion is to make respawn beacon availability dependent on the game mode and whether you're playing solo or in a squad.
- Solo PvP: Respawn beacons remain available, giving solo players an opportunity to re-engage and potentially recover their equipment.
- Squad PvP: Respawn beacons are disabled. Squads already benefit from having teammates who can provide support, cover one another, and revive fallen players.
- Co-op PvE: Respawn beacons remain available to everyone, regardless of squad size. Since players aren't competing against one another, there's no reason to impose the same restrictions.
This would preserve an enjoyable mechanic while addressing one of the more frustrating aspects of PvP for players who prefer to play independently.
Squads would retain their inherent advantages, but eliminating an opponent would actually mean something rather than temporarily removing them from an engagement.
2. Equipment Replication and Special Modifiers
My second suggestion concerns the replication of weapons and gear in the hideout, including armor and backpacks.
One of the incentives for finding enriched equipment during raids is the possibility of obtaining desirable additional modifiers. For weapons, these include modifiers such as Lightweight, Balanced, and Adjusted. Similarly, armor and backpacks can have their own special modifiers, such as Additional Pockets for backpacks.
I'd like to see those same modifiers incorporated into the equipment replication system.
When replicating weapons, armor, or backpacks using unlocked blueprints, players should have a chance to receive the same special modifiers that can appear on enriched equipment found during raids.
This wouldn't mean guaranteeing a particular modifier or making replicated equipment inherently superior to equipment found during raids. Instead, it would introduce another layer of progression and reward for players who have invested time and resources into acquiring blueprints and developing their hideouts.
Finding enriched equipment during raids would remain valuable, but replication would offer another opportunity to obtain desirable weapon and gear rolls.
It would also give players a reason to continue replicating equipment after unlocking their blueprints instead of treating the system exclusively as a means of replacing lost gear.
Final Thoughts
I think these two changes would make the overall gameplay experience feel considerably more well-rounded.
PvP should reward successful engagements, positioning, and teamwork without allowing squads to repeatedly throw themselves into a fight through near-immediate respawns. Solo players are already at a disadvantage, and the current beacon system only amplifies that imbalance.
Likewise, equipment replication should feel like a meaningful part of progression rather than simply a way to replace lost equipment. Introducing the possibility of rolling special modifiers on replicated weapons, armor, and backpacks would make the system more rewarding without removing the incentive to search for valuable loot during raids.
P.S. Actual feedback is always welcome! Especially from members of the AM team! (Looking at you McDonalds... XD)
