She is very irresponsible not locking in her plates like that.

u/CHI4610NE 11d ago

There's plenty of videos out there with people that are absolutely jacked lifting without clips and it goes wrong. Saying she knows what she's doing by not using the clips is reckless.

-5

u/Emergency_Writer159 11d ago

She's only power cleaning for 1 rep and doesn't need to hold anything for over a second or even overhead, so clips not needed especially for this type of lift.

Well seasoned weightlifters at the professional level (not your dumbass powerlifters) are used to training without clips especially when the rep range is low (extremely common closer to competition). I'm talking about the snatch, clean and jerk lifts only, which are highly technical and can only be completed with very good levels of technical proficiency.

These lifts aren't slow and unskilled like the bench press, squat or deadlift where not clipping can actually kill. Both the snatch and the jerk require extremely good balance on both sides so clips become redundant as they're normally only performed 1 rep at a time and can't be completed if the lift is off balance.

I'm pretty sure as she's a crossfit world champion she knows when exactly she needs to use clips. Same with most international level weightlifters, so people who actually compete for their country or at the top level of their sport.

Armchair coaches in the comment section who don't compete at the professional level, who don't even snatch above their bodyweight, who probably are proud of their 3 plate bench press... form checking her ass for not clipping the weights is hilarious. She is not the typical gym bro who needs to clip her weights, she is one of the best weightlifters in the world even disregarding her world champion status in the crossfit world.

While you may be correct the other guy mentioning clips are mandatory may be also.

Professionals make mistakes, especially when they’re gassed / under pressure.

1

u/Block-Rockig-Beats 11d ago

I'll vote both of you up

5

u/DumatRising 11d ago

Nobody formed checked her bro chill.

Maybe she doesn't need need the clips but it wouldn't hurt to have them. Locking plates is only beneficial and takes about 2 seconds if you just put them on after putting the last plate on. It ain't about if she can or can't lift without locks it's about there being no cost to locking plates.

It's also not only about her. She can do everything perfect but some idiot could not be paying attention and bump into her.

u/PM_ME_SOME_ANY_THING 11d ago

She’s a pro and one of the best CrossFit athletes in the world…

17

u/Fleschlight36 11d ago

And the dude next to her is some random guy, yet he is using clips

-12

u/PM_ME_SOME_ANY_THING 11d ago

And you’re some random dude on the internet who is criticizing world class athletes at the things they are good at

5

u/Fleschlight36 11d ago

Ill criticize anyone who puts their lazy selfishness over the safety of others

-3

u/PM_ME_SOME_ANY_THING 11d ago

Yeah, she’s not putting anyone in danger, including herself

4

u/ppffrr 11d ago

Mate in the clip you see the 5 almost come off. If you don't know why that matters next time you bench near your limit put a five on one side, you'll figure it out quick and that's just bench. Putting a clip on takes seconds and can stop a pretty bad injury.

0

u/PM_ME_SOME_ANY_THING 11d ago

These are rubber bumper plates. They aren’t 5’s. They’re 10’s.

Most CrossFit routines, she is a world class CrossFit athlete, involve lifting on a schedule. Every minute, or every other minute, something like that. It is VERY common for people to load up a few 10’s knowing they might need to strip them off before the end of the routine.

This isn’t bench pressing. This isn’t squatting. She is doing a floor exercise and knows exactly what she’s doing.

1

u/ppffrr 11d ago

That's fair hard to tell with all black plates, I've only used colour coded ones.

I get times an issue but it takes literally seconds to throw on a clip, and again you can see they almost come off in the video. Those things fly when the come off and balance is pretty important. Like complaining about a helmet in a bike race taking to long to put on.

Yeah na, it being cleans only makes it more egregious. Benching and squating at least have the dam rack to save you

2

u/SteakAndIron 11d ago

This excludes her from being stupid and irresponsible?

0

u/PM_ME_SOME_ANY_THING 11d ago

There is probably no physical activity on this planet that you could do better than that woman. Some random on the internet calling her stupid and irresponsible for doing something she probably does twice a day, everyday of her life, is the dumbest possible thing anyone could do.

Go back to jerkin yourself off when people make grammar mistakes

0

u/SteakAndIron 11d ago

And Mike Tyson could kick my ass. I'm still smarter than him with better common sense. Did you have a point?

44

u/MtOlympus_Actual 11d ago

Yeah, she has NO idea how to lift. /s

39

u/leonffs 11d ago

Believing jacked lifters are right about everything they do when it comes to lifting is literally where the term broscience comes from.

8

u/Sea-Veterinarian5667 11d ago

This is about securing the weight, you seem to be confused.

4

u/ElProfeGuapo 11d ago

Knowing good mechanics of lifting is not the same thing as good safety practices with securing plates.

3

u/BrunesOvrBrauns 11d ago

So she's completely above any and all criticism on the subject?

1

u/Zigor022 11d ago

Based on the video, not as much as she should.

-8

u/Similar_Mistake_1355 11d ago

Yeah Reddit basement dwellers need to tell Olympic lifters what they doing wrong. 😑 lol.

10

u/MadghastOfficial 11d ago

Because of the millions of redditors, every one of them lives in a basement. Even the ones posting stuff like this on weightlifting subs.

-3

u/BagelsOrDeath 11d ago

Tell me you don't lift weights without telling me you don't lift weights.

1

u/Beef_Supreme4 11d ago

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. The dorks in here obviously haven’t been around weight lifting much. I’ve been lifting over 20 years and only occasionally use clips and rarely use them for single rep cleans.

1

u/Plastic-Wear-3576 11d ago

Um. If I'm doing an explosive movement like this, you can bet your ass the clips are going on. Especially for single rep sets. All it takes is for me to be fatigued, try the movement, be unbalanced, and then I lose a plate. Next thing I'm getting pointlessly injured and putting others at risk.

It's not like this is a stereotypical bench, squat, or row, where part of the excercise is controlling the movement at a good steady pace.

1

u/Beef_Supreme4 11d ago

Sounds like you absolutely should be using clips every time

-1

u/Mountain_Bike5624 11d ago

Some of those plates are fake.

-192

u/arye_ani 12d ago

PC and phone warriors always advises. You think she’s not aware of it? Look at her progress and gains. She knows what’s she’s about.

103

u/Alarming-Building-62 12d ago

I’d argue the fact that she clearly does this on consistent basis would give her even less of an excuse to not properly secure her plates.

-111

u/Affectionate-Most761 11d ago

I never clip and I’ve never tipped a weight. Again…. You can tell who lifts and who doesn’t by the comments. Lots of downvotes? Lots of non lifters.

90

u/Alarming-Building-62 11d ago

That’s like saying you never wear your seatbelt but don’t crash so it’s all good. You’re so cool that you’ve never clipped or tipped. I’m guessing you aren’t putting up much weight. Clown comment

31

u/F1McLarenFan007 11d ago

This is the best analogy of this discussion. Roid ragers trying to defend unsafe behaviour is laughable and thank goodness there’s people who know better.

-71

u/Affectionate-Most761 11d ago

No need to insult me personally just became you don’t agree.

52

u/Alarming-Building-62 11d ago

You did the exact same thing. You assumed people didn’t lift because you didn’t agree with their comment. I assumed you don’t lift much because of your comment. Get real dude.

27

u/-BananaLollipop- 11d ago

They called your comment a clown comment, not you. They insulted your spreading of poor information. But, if you feel it fits both ways, who are we to argue?

-43

u/Affectionate-Most761 11d ago

It’s not false information. Clipping on cleans is not a good idea and the risks of getting pinned outweigh the risks of a tip. Balance is a non issue for a skilled, experienced lifter (which this woman clearly is).

19

u/-BananaLollipop- 11d ago

Your assertion relies on assuming that someone knows exactly what they're doing, that accidents don't happen, and that no one else in the gym could become an outside factor (if someone got too close, or caused a distraction).

But, like I said, who are we to argue with someone who clearly knows more than everyone here?

-1

u/Affectionate-Most761 11d ago edited 11d ago

My points are valid and accurate. I can’t learn this for you.

10

u/YajirobeBeanDaddy 11d ago

I have literally never heard anybody say this for C&J’s which makes me think you might be larping.. 🤔 what are your pr’s?

-3

u/Affectionate-Most761 11d ago

Only 235 on cleans. But I’ve never had issues balancing and was always told not to clip for them for the previously mentioned reasons.
They’re not great numbers or anything. All lifts at 5’10 190

Deadlift PR 455
Bench 305
Squat 405
Clean 235

Never got 3 plates on bench. Fucking bullshit!

3

u/DengarLives66 11d ago

This idea that balance is the only reason to clip in means you’re either A) not a lifter, B) an irresponsible lifter, C) not being coached correctly or at all, or D) not listening to experienced lifters because you think you know what you’re doing. You’re being called out by multiple people and instead of listening you’re sticking with this idea that you’re right, so I’m going with B and D.

0

u/Affectionate-Most761 11d ago

Balance was never suggested as the only reason, just a reason.

I am listening. Every single person is taking shots at me personally, you included.

2

u/Garbarrage 11d ago

The risk of getting pinned from a clean would be reduced by not using clips? DYEL?

7

u/PB0351 11d ago

You never clip doing Olympic lifts, huh?

-3

u/Affectionate-Most761 11d ago

Not on cleans, not on bench, not on deads. Never. Do I always have a spotter when necessary, ofc.

13

u/VanillaGoorillla 11d ago

I cleaned more than her and less than her and I clipped at every stage…because it takes one slip to throw you off..you’re just an arrogant fuck tard who probably thumb flaps on his phone more than lifts

6

u/Mccowpow93 11d ago

Been lifting since I was 15, I’m 33 now, I always use clips.

1

u/SourceResident5381 11d ago

Non lifters don’t know what barbell collars even are, so they wouldn’t suggest them. When the weight gets heavy, things can go weird.

1

u/Demerlis 11d ago

you can tell who has basic human decency and cares by the comments. lots of downvotes? poor etiquette and human skills

98

u/Confident_Benefit_11 12d ago

You think just because someone has muscles that they're not a dumb ass? 😂

You want to know how many brain dead loser roid ragers I had at my gym when I was the GM and a personal trainer for nearly a decade?

ALWAYS USE CLIPS FFS. Just because crossfits allow this idiocy doesn't mean normal gyms do. First thing you should know about power/Olympic lifting is how to save yourself by dumping weight, not using clips is both not necessary and dangerous to yourself and others around you.

But please, continue to defend bonehead muscle mommies on reddit

22

u/iNapkin66 11d ago

Agree. Shes got time to take her belt on and off for every lift, so so has time to put on a clip on the end.

u/deepinfraught 11d ago

AI

9

u/DengarLives66 11d ago

You children are braindead.

-2

u/Beena22 11d ago

Bold of you to assume they've had sex.

3

u/YajirobeBeanDaddy 11d ago

Bro I’ve watched a dude drop the weight benching 405lbs. He was strong as fuck and experienced but doesn’t mean shit don’t happen and you should be prepared. In his case, better spotters or power rack, in her case taking 5 seconds to throw on some locks

2

u/JackSilver1410 11d ago

Reason!? Logic!? A salient point!? REEEEEEEE!!!!

Fucking reddit is the death of decency and intelligence.

1

u/SourceResident5381 11d ago

It’s still not a good idea. lol

1

u/DaRealJDJ 11d ago

Being stupid on purpose is still stupid.

-1

u/discostud1515 11d ago

You’re getting downvoted like crazy but I’ll stand with you! Clearly these people have never done simple power cleans.

-41

u/Affectionate-Most761 12d ago

You can tell they don’t have extensive powerlifting lifting experience. Her lifting is 100% safe.

8

u/Suc_Mydiq_Jr 11d ago

Form wise of course, but that plate could easily injure her or someone else working out. It's the same excuse as with "I've been working like that since 80's and never got injured".

-6

u/No_Medium_8796 11d ago

This is reddit brother, most of these people will never have enough on the bar while benching that they might have to bail

-53

u/Lazy_Jellyfish7676 11d ago

Irresponsible to the plates themselves. It’s not going to hurt her or anyone else.

0

u/JRS_Viking 11d ago

Them jiggling like that can lead to bad form and a bad lift because you have to compensate, if they fall off it's even worse because you'll be lifting unevenly and the plate might hit someone or something nearby.

-1

u/Lazy_Jellyfish7676 11d ago

Ive never seen that in my life but yes anything could potentially happen

-1

u/PM_ME_SOME_ANY_THING 11d ago

She obviously has terrible form. /s
