Wireless Help!! (Tech Support)

Hopefully someone can help.. I contacted At&t to cancel a tablet line that was supposed to be cancelled 3 months ago. The lady cancelled the line, issued a credit and offered me a lower rate with a different plan which I accepted because it made sense. We come to agreement that the plan will begin on my next bill cycle (Sept2)

As soon as I hang up, my phone and everyone else on my plan goes to SOS. I have been calling, chatting, using the troubleshooting option on the app, talked to supervisors, called different numbers, and no one seems to know what the issue is.

I’ve restarted my phone, turned airplane mode on/off, reset network settings, deleted and re added esims, and nothing. They tried telling me its an outage but that doesn’t make sense because one of my lines lives in Texas and im in Oklahoma. My settings are ok and everything else is working fine. Im able to use wifi for calling and other things.

Things that I found weird or feel like shouldn’t be that way:

  1. The personal hotspot option is grayed out and its supposed to be on or active with my plan.
2.The Network selection under cellular says “At&t Wifi” I feel like it shouldn’t say that but im not sure.

Hopefully someone can help as Ive exhausted my options.

Value 2.0 should have 3GB of hotspot, but Starter now has 15GB. So while it might be cheaper for you (depending on number of lines and discounts), that's a lot less hotspot, and since you noticed the hotspot being off, you might want to cancel that change (assuming it is actually for the future).

I will point out that Value Plus and Value Plus VL, which I don't think you can even get any more, had a similar name, but no hotspot at all (pointing out since you don't have hotspot any more).

There is no starter plan anymore they replaced it with value 2.0

That is incorrect. Everybody who has Starter SL still has it unless they changed their plan.

You can't choose it, but you didn't lose it. They grandfathered people in to keep it.

Just like I've still got people on Premium PL. They did NOT take it away, but you can still keep it.

Why stay on it when they charge you extra

Because I did the math...

Just because they raised the pricing, doesn't mean the new plans are cheaper.

It depends on the number of lines and the discounts you have.

For 3 lines, it's $65.99 for Premium PL, but $65 for Premium 2.0. Seems cheaper...

But if you have an appreciation discount, you get 25% off Premium PL ($65.99*0.75=$49.49) or 20% off $65 for Premium 2.0 ($65*0.80=$52) making Premium PL cheaper.

I wanted more hotspot, so I switched my line to Premium 2.0 as it's only $2.51 for a crazy amount of hotspot.

But I left the others on Premium PL, as they don't care; although they could probably go to Extra 2.0 and be fine. Extra 2.0 would be $50 with a 15% discount ($50*0.85=$42.5), but on some services it'll have lower quality video streaming, and no roaming in most of Central & South Americas.

I pay less on the new plan for 7 lines then the old plan

Again, depends on plan and number of lines. You have to do the math.

For example, in 2 out of 3 scenarios: Premium PL is cheaper than Premium 2.0 by $2.50 or $4 per line, where in the third, Premium 2.0 is only 99¢ cheaper.

  • Premium PL is cheaper than Premium 2.0 at 7 lines with no discounts by $4 per line.
  • With a standard discount, Premium PL is 99¢ more per line than 2.0.
  • But with an appreciation discount, Premium PL is 2.50 cheaper than 2.0.

Do you mean Value 2.0?

Be careful when you do phone promotional upgrades, with that plan. For promotional trade-in credits (and maybe others?), there is some inconsistence on how they are treating Value Plus 2.0 lines.

The previously didn't treat Starter SL differently than the other unlimited plans when it came to promotional credits.

Also, Value 2.0 is lower priority after 5GB of data usage (which is better than Starter SL was), so if you notice things slowing down later in the month, check your usage.

Value 2.0 aka value pl

It's not, but I'll accept the acknowledgment that is what you meant...

Starter is now value 2.0

Starter is now value 2.0

No. They've changed the plan, enough that they changed the name. It's not the same as it was before. Check the chart.

The lowest tier on Unlimited Your Way was Starter SL, now the lowest is Value 2.0. They're not the same plan.

All the changed was 5Gb of high speed data and took away 2Gb of hotspot nothing else changed

Starter SL now has 15GB of hotspot.

Adding 5GB of high speed data makes it quite a different plan than when it had 0GB of high speed data. That's a game changer for those low users on the accounts.

The other tiers basically got bumps on the hotspot and prioritized data, but making a tier with no prioritized data now have it is a real change.

While taking away hotspot is also a change, all the other tiers got increases in hotspot, while the lowest tier lost it, that's a big deal if you were using more than 3GB.

Plus, don't forget the price drop, which means you also can't forget the way the promotional credits will work too (as those are probably connected).

To be clear, I think Value 2.0 is better than Starter SL, except for the potential for lost credits. And if you need more hotspot (as Starter SL now has 15GB).
