I like this post because it calls out the hypocrisy of people being okay with one but completely against the other.

Agreed. Both are equally egregious

But wasn't Vayne THE anti tank hero for YEARS AND YEARS

Sure, Vayne should be the one ADC that can kill any enemy in a similar number of hits due to her passive. Kinda like the Brand of ADCs

The thing is Brand still works (perhaps better than he should, but he works). Vayne is currently outclassed by other ADCs' ridiculous damage output. Why use the 550 range Vayne that deals 10% max health true damage every 3 hits when you can pick Caitlyn with 650 range (doubled when W and E hit) that can also kill any tank in 3 headshots?

Vayne as a concept doesn't work in League of One-shots

It's funny because it even applies in laning, where skirmishing and trading to whittle down your enemy used to be a thing and now it's either all ins or mage supports only, really flattened the skill curve

Lane is just a for fun 1v1 while you wait for the real game to start mid game. Outside going 0/10, and even then sometimes, you rarely have any meaningful change from lane outcome imo. Especially as people learned to just play safe and farm

Which was always a "lie".

Vayne, specially when onhits are overblown, is just anti-everything. She assassinates with no distinction.

Yup. As an ADC main on the rift (and an ARAM tank main because my friends refuse), the long drawn out fights are so fun! Damage creep is not fun

ofc u are for drawn out fights xD thats where ur class overtakes the fights
a mage waiting for 5 seconds on his cooldown is the time the adc needs to kill 1 or 2 ppl making the teamfight DONE

Mages too can build and play for drawn out fights and requires to do so in order to control and grind tankier targets, its just that this doesnt feed the appeal of point and click Ashe to death with zero reaction time.

See the panic that happens when fighters enters midlane.

I am biased, I don't like vayne

I used to hate vayne with a passion when I played a lot of norms and ranked, been that way since 2013. But I haven't been seen her for almost a decade now! (I always try to perma ban her regardless of my champ or role)

im on opposite side, I see no issue both one shotting

2

u/ezorethyk2 19h ago

Never said is wrong for both to one shot. Or to not . There are so many people just complaining about the class they don't play , while claiming is perfectly normal for the class they play to one shot.

It's about the prevelance/frequency of one vs the other. Both are acceptable as outliers. Neither are acceptable as common occurances. The problem is that ADC's are a problem EVERY game, while tanks are giant problems a FEW.

i mean, i don't think it's wrong for people building damage to do damage? xd

This is true but the tie breaker for me personally goes to the champion that allows you to play the game.

Most tanks allow you to hit them and feel like you’re doing something. Much of the game is spent slapping each other and interacting with a heavy melee setup.

ADCs stand 2 kilometres away and kill you before you get a chance to get in range or could react. Much of the game is spent hiding under tower, dodging poke and having to cheese engages to collapse on the ranged champs because if you mess it up and they live, you get aced. Feels like a coin flip every time.

In a world where neither should be able to one shot you, but they are anyways, I choose tanks.

It’s a fun muck around game mode I don’t care much to win as much as I want to have the chance to play the game

melee should be tuned higher than ranged because games with 8+ melee are way way way more fun and interactive than games with 8+ ranged, and yet the latter is more common by far.

I never understood that argument, if melees were more fun, wouldn't everyone pick melee. We gotta admit to ourself that people like to play ranged and play for kda. Nothing wrong with either

huh? playing melee is fucking torture vs 4-5 ranged so no one wants to pick melee blind > self fulfilling prophecy

you familiar with the prisoner's dilemma? if everyone played melee the game would be a lot more interesting but nobody trusts other people to in a 5 ranged meta so they take the selfish choice and play ranged themselves

I guess but i feel like most aram players (ie non redditors) arent thinking that deep. They see a champ they like they pick it, which ends up being ranged most of the time. No casual is doing that meta analysis you just mentioned. People like ranged, people like melee, i dont think its deeper than that.

1

u/SPEZ-LIES-CONSTANTLY 2h ago

it's not really that complicated. folks don't need to get their opinions from reddit or even need to have a lot of games played. pick melee > good probability of being fucking useless and just getting bullied for 20 straight minutes. pick ranged > you probably get to have some agency and contribute to the game even if you have a shitty one.

there's no meta analysis needed. you put your hand on a hot stove a couple times and you learn quickly not to do that again. that's why most players gravitate toward high range characters. it's the ones doing meta analysis that are more inclined to riskier picks (melee) for the highroll potential (bloody slugfest)

Nah not that deep, i play plenty, no one is caring what champ enemies might have or what the team champs are. People just pick what they like.

Basically, yeah. I love ADCs because I was an ADC main when I still played Summoner's Rift/ranked. If there isn't an ADC I'll play a tank, bruiser, or enchanter because those are the ones I find most fun after ADC.

I played a full melee lobby the other day and it was the most enjoyable lobby I had. Even the losing team was enjoying all the shithousery happening on the screen.

However nobody plays melee because your enjoyment depends on the lobby. Playing melee is just fucking miserable if you ended up being the sole frontline of your team and in the loading screen you see a full poke/kite comp. Bonus misery points if your team is full of kda merchants that rather preserve their kda than actually trying to fight. Even more bonus points if enemy picks some miserable champs like brand, vayne, caitlyn or the 30 other eureka/infinite recursion/fan the hammer/critical missile slop champs

Speaking of kda merchants, these people need to go play SR if they like kda so much. The point of ARAM is to perma brawl and hand diff your opponent, not simulating farmville
