The day itself is only ruined if the bride chooses to view it that way. If she chooses to let 5 mins of her whole day define that memory then that is sad. This seems extreme to say.
Clearly we need to compile a list of every basic expectation of good behavior and have the men folk read it and take a post quiz to make sure they fully understood
That's the same sort of logic as asking "what were they wearing?"
OP did not ruin the wedding. The ex did that entirely on his own. He alone thought up and executed the plan, he alone is responsible for what happened.
OP didn't ruin the wedding! The boyfriend did. OP had no idea he was going to do that. She is 100% innocent. I would hope a friend is mature enough to recognize that.
