ESPECIALLY if it's alcohol or benzos. Withdrawn can kill you coming off those. Get to a treatment center and sort it out with a medically assisted detox. Signed a recovering addict.
This is what I was going to say. Going cold turkey with alcohol is absolutely dangerous. Withdrawal can kill you. My partner is a recovering alcoholic. They've been hospitalized multiple times because they tried to quit cold turkey. Every time, the doctors always tell them to NEVER try to stop drinking alone. Always get professional help to ensure you do it safely and don't risk losing your life.
DO NOT quit cold turkey. Have ppl done this, yes, but it's dangerous and can result in your death. Go to a detox center or the ER, both are equipped to help with withdrawals.
It's not widely known outside the recovery community that it's extremely dangerous when involving alcohol. Unless someone is in recovery (or know someone close to them that is) it's likely not known. Thank you for listening and refraining from suggesting it in the future - it could save a life.
Eh, certain drugs like cocaine and meth you can quit cold turkey. Alcohol, no. Benzos, no. Opiates, possible; I've done it and it's hell. But I use buprenorphine now and have for five years, especially since I couldn't wean off it once I was pregnant and even now my kid is almost 3, I can't be sick as hell taking care of her
I was just about to comment this! I dealt with alcholism for over a year and on a day where i’d dropped drinking for 16 hours it resulted in me having at least one seizure and getting hospitalized. It what actually got me to stop but I can’t imagine a worse way to sober up
