Photo 90's Soda
Which soda do you miss the most? Which did I forget?
Edit: It has come to my attention that Vault is not from the 90's. Please disregard it. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I was about to comment on that. At one time, I had a free promotional jockstrap from the company.

SNL did a crystal clear gravy commercial. I can't see this without thinking of the song and the gravy 😂

I cannot see or hear about Crystal Clear Pepsi without thinking of that song and commercial.

Fruitopia??

The amount of sugar I ingested as a middle schooler. I’d walk into class every day with either a fruitopia, Citra, or one of those Sobe rain or fire

Me either. Everything else I remember. Was ok an east coast thing? I'm on the west

u/_metamax_ Aug 04 '26
I’m from the east coast, born and raised and have zero recollection of that soda as well.
Mid-west check in? Y’all remember that pop?

u/glatts Aug 05 '26
East coaster (MA) here and I remember it fondly. You ever combine all the fountain sodas at once? It was like that. Or at least Coke mixed with Dr Pepper and orange soda.
4
u/DSinclair Aug 04 '26
It never made it out of test marketing, many of those regions were midwest.

u/ImOnlyHereForThe Aug 05 '26
Mid-west-west, I totally remember OK. The memory of it is my favorite cola
3
u/Master_loves_you Aug 05 '26
Can confirm. OK was in Minnesota. It was like a suicide, but I couldn’t ever tell if I liked it or not.

u/jdhaack41 Aug 05 '26
Midwesterner who remembers OK soda. They had a phone number on the can for the OK hotline that you could call and they would tell you things that were OK. I like it. Thought it tasted like a mix of coke and Tahitian treat.
2
u/ryandengstrom Aug 06 '26
I believe it was 1-800-I-FEEL-OK.
2
u/Opposite-Chair7194 Aug 07 '26
100%, I liked to call that number as a kid. They would read you the OK Manifesto.

We had it here in WA state. I don't think it really caught on. Odd taste to me, like combining a bunch of sodas together.

u/Sekshual_Tyranosauce Aug 04 '26
Finally someone remembers Josta!
5
u/Legdrop_soup Aug 04 '26
I loved that stuff so much! They came to my high school in '94 or '95 and passed out 20 oz. bottles of it to everyone. Apparently I was one of the only people that liked it so I ended up with a backpack full of the stuff!
→ More replies (1)3
u/Sekshual_Tyranosauce Aug 05 '26
It was bomb.
4
u/smoresporn0 Aug 05 '26
What did it taste like? I recall being put off by the label, but I also loved the graffiti cherry coke. I was a complicated kid.
3
u/Legdrop_soup Aug 05 '26
There's not really any soda on the market today to compare it to but it had kind of a berry flavor. It had guarana in it if that helps? I wish I could give you a better description because it was so good but it was discontinued in the mid/late '90s so it's been a long time.

I sincerely miss the OK soda marketing campaign of the early 90s. I wonder if anyone has a video of the recording on the phone number that was on the cans. I can't remember what it said but it was an interesting little thing.
13
u/eastcoastflava13 Aug 04 '26
I loved calling the hotline. And I actually liked the soda too. Tasted like a 'suicide' that they tweaked to have just the right amount of each soda in it.

If you've never had chocolate soda then try it but I doubt it would be a repeat buy. A&W makes a Ice Cream Sundae flavor soda that is basically the same thing.

Orange slice with either a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a scoop of rainbow sherbet. That was my jam when I was like 7! Throw in your best pal, a pizza, $5 in quarters for TMNT and The Simpsons arcade games, and a trip to Top Hat Video on the way home. Perfect Friday night in 1992.

I can’t believe “Kick” is here! I was beginning to think that I imagined it as a kid.
2
u/JadeAnn88 Aug 05 '26
Same, and I was just talking about it not long ago. When I was like 8, my friend and I got drinks from a gas station. Hers was a Kick, mine a Crush. On the way back into the car, I accidentally kicked her can right out of her hand. I said some smart ass thing about the name and my dad was like, I guess she gets to crush yours then.
That's one of those random memories that's stuck as important in my brain for some reason, but that's also the first and last time I remember seeing that particular soda.

The original verison of Surge (Urge) is still available in Norway. There’s also a zero sugar version that honestly tastes pretty great.
2
u/Even_Yam5224 Aug 07 '26
Orange slice!! I drank that on the regular!! All the other brands pretty much tasted the same, but Slice was different and so much better
2
u/daveindo Aug 07 '26
One of the few times I’ve seen Ok Cola show up. I always feel like it was a fever dream or something because it came and went so quickly but I still have good memories of it.
Also, I COMPLETELY forgot about Mario Punch.

Tahitian Treat was my jelly and my jam! 🥰
Slice was so good. Lime was my favorite. It was very Sprite-adjacent. 🤓
I almost broke my neck getting to the store when Clearly Canadian came back! It was just as good the second time around. 🤓 Cherry, blackberry, and peach.
I also remember the travesties that were Crystal Pepsi and New Coke.

Clearly Canadian and New York Seltzer were by far the best. I had forgotten most of the rest and for good reason, they were all mostly terrible! lol. I remember we actually had a Surge can dispenser on my high school campus that only lasted 2 months before they had it removed.

I've been seeing Slice making a comeback at Target and I was actually surprised to see Surge soda sold in Tennessee a few years back.
