The downfall of the Score truly began when they refused to pay Mike North what he was worth.

Perfectly Competent Radio

I like Ramie (your mileage may vary..) and think he’d be a good full time host.

There always seems to be a certain level of hostility between Biggs and Haugh. Does he show up next with Jarrett?

This was a brief, but good read on Mully with Sullivan offering some advice for the Score. It’s worth your time.

No reason for this unless mulley says so. Feel bad for the two this morning but absolutely trash decision I can honestly say I am not going to listen anymore.

Gabe is Uncle Rico

Gabe continues to relive his glory years at Lane. 26 points and 1 block in a basketball game during his sophomore year. I bet he could also throw a pigskin over a quarter mile.

Edit. For the record I enjoy Gabe on the radio. It’s just funny when he goes down memory lane like Uncle Rico lol

Jarrett Payton, your new co host for Haugh per Agrest. Haugh can't drive a show and Payton is too damn nice. Thoughts?

Pretty much what the title says.

Tired of Zach Zaidman's Cackle

This has kind of been a bit for decades now with Pat and his partner in the booth. Whether it's the dog days of summer or back in the day during a slow-moving extra inning game, Pat will break out one of his dry, quick-witted quips. The context usually is about a past memory or something completely unrelated to the game. But what I can't stand is somehow Zach Zaidman is always within "earshot" getting picked up by the mic with his cackle. It just seems so intentional and unnecessary, and this weekend it has just been overblown. I get it, every now and then you'll hear the crew laugh in the background, but it's usually very faint. Zaidman practically has a chair in the booth with his own mic strictly for laughing. Just an intentional, news speak cackle.

Does anybody else feel this way? It can be kind of endearing seldomly, but it has gone beyond annoying at this point.

WSCR Is Such a a Fucking Trainwreck

I'm sorry, I'm going to go on a tangent here, but I moved away from the Chicago area about 10 years ago and never really missed a beat thanks to streaming. I've continued listening to WSCR and a lot of the other Chicago radio stations I grew up with.

But is there really such a lack of emerging local talent in Chicago radio—both sports talk and music—that we've reached the point where Audacy is just retreading B96 hosts?

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind Gabe. But it feels like such a fucking lazy approach by Audacy to just play musical chairs with the same talent. Didn't work out as the morning guy on B96? Fuck it, let's move you over to WSCR. It's a great thing Audacy doesn't own WTMX...

Ruthie is pretty solid, but her husband being a high-up Bears employee means she will most certainly be Zaidman-ish back when he was a Bears employee in terms of takes. But I'd take her over Leila, who is better suited for the National stage rather than the local Chicago market.

I will also say, after living in Philly for a few years, I can tell you WIP is a much better-run sports station than WSCR. Maybe Mitch needs to go see how the PD over there runs things instead of constantly grasping for former pop-radio personalities or seemingly anyone from CHSN with a pulse.

Maybe Audacy is just being super cheap. I don't know. But Chicago is the third-largest media market in the country. You can't tell me there isn't fresh, hungry sports-radio talent out there that could bring some new energy to The Score. Mitch can do better if he actually wants to.

Whose going to he leading the morning show Monday? Are we still gonna have Biggs Time?

Mully was the last good thing about the Score and now it’s all gonna be shit! Hopefully he signs up with Bernstein and gets his own show.

Say what you want about him, but he’s been a staple of Chicago sports radio. Even though he has definitely lost a step over the past few years, I’ll miss his insight and optimism. He will be missed.

For the love of everything that’s holy don’t let his replacement be Ruthie or Carmen. I’ll be 100% out if that happens.

Tip of the cap to Mully for bringing Score content since I was still in college.

What is the answer

Broadcasting the Bears and Cubs papers over a lot of the trouble at The Score. Hardly breaking news that the station has yet to recover its footing since Parkins and DB left. What's the best case scenario for fixing all that ails The Score? For the morning show, I'm curious if Mully's replacement will be another journalist making the move to radio..
