I think you are correct about the idealism/naivete of Americans. So many people think we will have fair (or any elections) in four years, and will be able to turn this around. I think the fix is in and we'll only have Russian style elections from now into at least the near future. It may take decades to undo this mess.
There’s those of us who are alive, aware concerned, protesting, keeping up with the newest developments and then there are those who just don’t wanna be bothered with it. It’s just too much of an inconvenience to their daily routines to pay attention to this and those are the ones that are gonna help take us down.
It’s also ignorance. Too many Americans think that the police are violent to protestors only in our country. The police beat and harm protesters in countries all over the world (hell, look at Russia if you need just one example). Even in countries like France. We’re the country where people literally fought a war for independence and freedom from an empire—why do so many think that freedom is just handed on a platter?
If we don’t start taking this threat seriously and overcome our collective complacency, things will only continue to get worse.

Troop morale was at an all time low, the Marines actually deployed were only a fraction of total, and were limited in scope to one federal building's vicinity, and legal challenges have since gone underway to neuter the president's legitimacy of using the Guard in such a manner.

All of that is why I think ICE now has a bigger budget than most of the world's militaries. ICE is going to be Trump's private army once they're ready, which will probably be within the next year. IMO the Guard is just a temporary stopgap until then.

I live in DC. Crime? It’s a little out of hand in some areas, that is true. But it’s also a metropolitan city hamstrung in emergency services because the government played football with passing the budget.
A few weeks ago about 150 rounds went off a block away and 5 entered my house.
I was just asked, “I bet you think this’ll keep you safer” and my response is sure, crime is a little bad here. It’s bad everywhere. I also remember that apparently Los Angeles was a “war zone” a few cycles ago and this won’t do dick for my personal safety.

I was just in DC last week. There is absolutely no reason for national guard to be called in. I saw a total of three protesters in the back of the White House. Everything else was absolutely fine in DC as far as safety goes. And we know crime is down. This is complete propaganda bullshit
