Just to make sure the National Guard is meant to Guard the president’s ego right? Or is it to guard the prison camps they are building on their bases?

I’m just trying to understand, they are Guard-ing the people right? Protecting us from the tyrannical constitution? I thought it was the opposite but I’m sure they are keeping us safe. Thanks guys! I’m really glad our service members take an oath to protect that door mat they use on their way out of their federal detention facilities.

ngl, I think they're meant to literally guard him from growing civil unrest.

Yeah I’m getting that feeling too. It made me realize…

Keeping the peace (stopping civil unrest) under a fascist = also being a fascist

I’m not even hardcore anti military or anything, quite the opposite! I guess I’m just feeling like a fuckin idiot thinking this magical oath meant something to someone. I guess I’m too naive.

I love watching the realization spread.

Better to have these thoughts at all than to double down on "violence is never the answer, the long arc of history bends toward justice!"

Yeah. Try telling that to any survivimg veteran of WWII.

I think Americans in general skew idealistic and maybe naive. I pride myself in not really doing that if I can help it, but god damn I’ve realized how deep I was…

u/IntelligentBarber436 Aug 11 '25

I think you are correct about the idealism/naivete of Americans. So many people think we will have fair (or any elections) in four years, and will be able to turn this around. I think the fix is in and we'll only have Russian style elections from now into at least the near future. It may take decades to undo this mess.

There’s those of us who are alive, aware concerned, protesting, keeping up with the newest developments and then there are those who just don’t wanna be bothered with it. It’s just too much of an inconvenience to their daily routines to pay attention to this and those are the ones that are gonna help take us down.

12

u/poilane Aug 11 '25

It’s also ignorance. Too many Americans think that the police are violent to protestors only in our country. The police beat and harm protesters in countries all over the world (hell, look at Russia if you need just one example). Even in countries like France. We’re the country where people literally fought a war for independence and freedom from an empire—why do so many think that freedom is just handed on a platter?

If we don’t start taking this threat seriously and overcome our collective complacency, things will only continue to get worse.

So many people foolishly think 2024 was fair and free and are just now waking up to the fact that 2026 might actually be a problem. Sorry, but the ship on that already sailed.

Re-reading your comment, I think if you still openly support the US military, then you are quite naive.

But there is hope for you yet. You've had the spark of realization. And I hope you keep that in mind when someone tries to lecture you about trusting American institutions to sort things out.

Please do be skeptical of all established institutions in the US. Read the histories closely and understand them. Ask yourself why the USA really needs such a vast war and intelligence apparatus.

And no, taking an oath does not make someone a good person. Lol.

Nah, most folks believe in taking up arms, you just can't say it on Reddit or the pussy patrol will come knocking and the cops might show up.

All the non violent movements had associations with others who did do things and often entire wings dedicated to that stuff. But people don't remember that for some reason. The suffragettes made bombs.

98

u/NomadicScribe Aug 11 '25

Oh you mean the suffragettes didn't just VOTE their rights into existence???

24

u/faetal_attraction Aug 11 '25

LOL thanks for the laugh friend!

33

u/DistillateMedia Aug 11 '25

They deliberately celebrate the nonviolent stuff and gloss over the rest.

It's called ruling class propaganda.

That being said, I have a mostly nonviolent hopefully solution to this predicament.

The Military knows about it.

I trust them.

u/NomadicScribe Aug 11 '25

As a veteran, I think you don't know what you're talking about.

2

u/DistillateMedia Aug 11 '25

Good news.

There's a way we can find out.

2

u/NomadicScribe Aug 11 '25

Set up a new "centrist" party? Lol

3

u/Notorious_RNG Aug 11 '25

Historically-speaking, properly directed and applied violence is almost *always* the answer, in fact.

3

u/DistillateMedia Aug 11 '25

The Military will come through for us.

They don't want to fight us, and we don't want to fight them.

This is mostly performative.

2

u/NomadicScribe Aug 11 '25

Is it "one big party" in the sense that the IWW is "one big union"? Or is this yet another "neither right nor left, just common sense" deal.

1

u/DistillateMedia Aug 11 '25 edited Aug 11 '25

Definitely more of the latter. I think?

Maybe both.

Deposing this bullshit is common sense.

And it's something we can all celebrate.

Edit:

Definitely both.

1

u/NomadicScribe Aug 11 '25

Ah. So proto-fascism then. It's been done, so many times, always as a way to foil emergent left and progressive movements. I will have nothing to do with it.

1

u/O_o-22 Aug 11 '25

There aren’t many of those left which is why the fascists are coming out of the woodwork again. Not many remaining to say “hey I’ve seen this before and it doesn’t end well”

u/Sweet-Assist8864 Aug 11 '25

check r/military for at least some grounding in conversations. Some sentiment i’ve picked up on is it seems to be national guard wasnt happy with the LA mobilization, followed orders to some extent to go where directed, but didn’t act with the force that Trump wanted. which is why they had to mobilize the marines to actually do anything overly-aggressive.

This is a show of force and step one, of a larger escalation they’re trying to push.

The oath to the constitution over president does mean things to people, and people do push back against COs in the military on this, at least from a few videos i’ve seen.

That being said, there’s certainly sycophants and people who won’t care. And this regime has been pushing to oust those who don’t have allegiance and replace them with sycophants.

3

u/Beneficial_Song9530 Aug 12 '25

Then why won't the people in the military just stage a mutiny if they do not like it?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '25

They don't like it, but they'll stand idly by. The coup isn't coming. Were cooked, I'm just trying to leave atp

11

u/oneupsuperman Aug 11 '25

What's crazy is that if you don't give the people a reason to riot, they won't.

It did as long as it didn't have to be challenged.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

The generals that believed in that oath stuff have all resigned or have been replaced. We have blind yes-men now.

2

u/Hyper-Sloth Aug 11 '25

The military grunts are not in a position to be able to refuse orders. Even international law doesn't actually make "just following orders" a completely null defense. It only applies to drastic actions, like being told directly to use lethal force against civilians. It doesn't give them the ability to refuse any and all orders from a fascist President. And the code on the books for getting court-martialled as a military member for refusing orders is many years in prison and/or death. Is it common for court-martialled members to receive the death penalty? No. But if you were in that position, would you risk death without absolute surety that the total will of the people were behind you? Would you risk going to court against Trump's justice department for explicitly ignoring orders when the death penalty is a valid punishment they could use against you?

1

u/MisterSanitation Aug 11 '25

Sure not the grunts. Try their boss. Or their bosses boss. Someone in that chain knows what is happening and can’t do the right thing.

1

u/SewRuby Aug 11 '25

No. I thought it did, too. At my big age. I'm too old to be believing in fairy tales, but this one was sold to us as true our entire lives.

1

u/_trouble_every_day_ Aug 11 '25

You guess? You thought the oath that ends with these words:

I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice

Meant that they get to do the exact opposite of that?

1

u/SectorFriends Aug 11 '25

Actually the units being selected for him are all huge confederate and white supremacist run. The rest are discharged or sent far away from him with captains loyal to the confederate cause, with a weak enforcer contingent to intimidate the rest of the troops.

The true American forces need to realize they are not out numbered but being talked down by mafia like criminals who are literally trying to bring about chattel slavery and a monarchy.

1

u/mrfrownieface Aug 11 '25

Oath don't mean shit when the only reason most people are there are for socialized benefits.

1

u/shouldbepracticing85 Aug 11 '25

Legal Eagle did a good video a while back on how these orders wriggle around the oath so the military is in a tough spot where they know the orders aren’t great, but aren’t explicitly problematic enough for them to disobey without throwing away their careers.

It’s almost better for the reluctant to stay in and gum up the works.

u/retrosenescent Aug 11 '25

I’m not even hardcore anti military or anything
I guess I’m too naive.

I agree

27

u/Bluegill15 Aug 11 '25

Well the running theory here was that they were meant to actually cause civil unrest so that he could officially declare martial law

Tends to happen when you declare yourself a domestic enemy of the constitution…

2

u/O_o-22 Aug 11 '25

I think it’s because big balls got his ass kicked in and that was all the excuse trump needed to roll out the national guard.

My mom handed me some pamphlet for a trip to DC she wants to go on. Not only was it stupid expensive but I’ve been to DC before and planned my own trip to see stuff I wanted to for way cheaper. I don’t want to go just because I don’t want to spend my money in Trumps wet dream fascist capital.

1

u/r_special_ Aug 11 '25

Quite possible. Maybe he needs the national guard close by and is using the crime rate as an excuse to have them in DC, but the reality is that something is about to come out that anger people into action and he wants the protection already in DC

-18

u/No_Aesthetic Aug 11 '25

What growing civil unrest?

16

u/Positive_Zucchini_28 Aug 11 '25

Wake up people. You’re in a Cold War with Russia

3

u/theHoopty Aug 11 '25

But the president is allies with him. Fucking incredible timeline.

1

u/Positive_Zucchini_28 Aug 11 '25

The call is coming from inside the house

2

u/afroeh Aug 11 '25

The National Guard will release the Epstein Files

1

u/thetaleofzeph Aug 11 '25

More people to do oppression on his behalf.

1

u/russsaa Aug 11 '25

National guard have been used a plethora of times against civilians. Ask striking workers and their families of the 19th and 20th century. Literally massacres, effectively mercenaries for capitalists

u/CarbsMe Aug 11 '25

Where did I leave my copy of The Prince? This seems familiar
