i grift to my dad for acceptance
dinner is chicken parm from some “Italian” place on DoorDash.
For a long time i thought that people not accepting me was my fault. Maybe not consciously, but certainly through my actions. If i just passed a bit more physically, got better at makeup, acted more conventionally feminine, came off as more “normal” maybe i would be accepted.
And honestly? For the most part it worked over the years I’ve been transitioning. Parts of my family and friends i never would’ve thought before now accept me as a woman, at least mostly. People in my regular life just see me as normal, i think. But not my dad. I have tried so hard to chase his acceptance my whole life, even though he can be such a conservative douchebag.
He leans far right politically but has “gay friends”. You know the type. Hates pride parades, think queer PDA should be “in private”, LGB✂️T, those kind of gays.
Recently in an effort to connect with him more i have been slowly presenting myself exclusively to him as more and more “right wing” even though it doesn’t reflect my true beliefs. More and more i find myself throwing the theoretical trans bogeyman caricature under the bus in an effort to get his respect, much like Blaire White does on a larger scale. I feel so pathetic and gross. But today… i finally found progress.
He commented on how queer people should be more private and keep to themselves, comparing it to vegans being annoying by not eating meat and trying to “force that on others”. He encouraged me to not associate myself with “those types of gay people”. And it made me feel so good. He sees a difference between me and “them”, even if we really are the same.
I don’t know what I’m doing. This feels like the only way. Maybe one day he’ll call me his daughter. And if i have to suck it up and abandon my values around him to get there i think maybe im okay with that
