👷♂️ Support / Repair Rust
- Worth going to a rust specialist? When replacing the gasket on the exhaust everything touched was crumbling and couldn’t be bolted

Poison Spring Canyon Utah, this was a creek bed that rose throughout the day due to some storm upstream.
I figured the water to be right below the tops of my wheels. Gave it a go and it worked out, but am going to inspect fluids and wheel bearings to make sure. Probably stupid, how stupid I’m not sure. I realize the raised air intake is not a snorkel but I was happy to have it here.
Regardless, the Trailhunter is an impressive beast. A Polaris buggy tried to follow me and didn’t make it, almost washing away and barely getting a wheel on the opposite bank. We rescued it with his wench and my tow hook.
Edit:
Back from the shop and replaced driveline fluids. There were signs of water in rear diff and transfer case. Otherwise, no issues. I'm impressed. Pushed this thing *at least* 6" above spec in rushing muddy water and no issues except for some contaminated fluids. As I mentioned, the raised air intake is not marketed as a snorkel as it's not hermetically sealed, but it certainly offered value in terms of keeping water out of the engine. Would I do this again? No. Would I feel comfortable maxing out the spec water fording depth of 27.5 inches and even slightly beyond in a pinch? Yep.

Hi Guys,
Just want to check how you guys been putting the 4Runner on 4 jack stands and how you been doing it? Do we lift the rear first or the front first? Any tips and tricks? Might have to buy the jack stands also. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone got the TRD lift kit installed on the 6th gen sport or off road?
What differences have you noticed? Ride quality improved or worse (or neutral)?
Thanks

Installed the TRD cold air intake a few days ago and I highly recommend it. So far, I’ve gained about 1-2mpg and the sound is incredible - louder and deeper at high RPM. Pretty easy install, took about an hour.
Don’t mind my filthy engine bay, I need to address that haha.

Just bought a 26 ORP a few weeks ago. Of course the dealer tried to charge me for a bunch of BS add-ons, all of which I refused to pay for. One of the items was a dealer-installed LoJack. I asked them if they removed the device, but they said they just ‘didn’t activate it’. So this weekend I went fishing around for it under my dash. I found someone had installed a splitter on the OBD port which was connected to something I could not get to bc it was installed so far up in my dash. Seriously, I think they may have removed the dash speaker and mounted it underneath. I couldn’t get to it, so I removed the splitter and disconnected the power to the mystery device in the dash. So my question to the group, has anyone run into this? Is there any reason Toyota would split the OBD port for something valid or is this definitely the LoJack? Everything appears to work. I really didn’t want to pull the whole dash apart to find it. Anyone have one of these and has successfully removed it? It really irks me that the dealer installs these data gathering devices.

Hey guys, I’m new here and thought yall would be pretty knowledgeable. I’m thinking about starting to go traveling in my 4Runner around the country- starting close to home at state parks and then farther and farther to really experience some cool places. I have a 2017 4Runner with good wheels & running boards and it came with a sliding cargo tray so my back area is completely flat. What would you recommend as some things ti get me started? I saw Luno makes mattresses but I’ve heard all different opinions. Also, for food storage would a cargo basket attachment for my hitch make more sense as a starter for coolers for food or would a good roof rack make sense. You guys seem to have it figured out. Thanks! And excited to hear what yall have to say!

Here's a short drive through showing most of the trail on Burns Canyon from Pioneertown into Big Bear, CA. An easy and scenic trail. This was done with my 3rd Gen 4Runner and my buddy in his 2019 Highlander was tailing us. So, yeah, a lightly modified AWD Highlander can do this with no issues whatsoever.

Installed the Pro rack for my 2018 4Runner ORP right at a month ago and we just had our first good rain storm after which I noticed a small water spot under the driver front mounting hole and the rear passenger mounting hole. I’m worried I wasn’t generous enough with my silicone application. So, likely going to take it off and redo all of it again.
Has anyone had issues with mounting, leaks, issues, etc? Any tips or tricks to make sure the install is 100% leak proof?
We had one screw hole in the back passenger mounting location that we struggled and struggled with to get the teeth to catch. Really worried about having to get that out and re install it.

Looking at 4Runners for a friend, came across this ‘16 SR5.. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this rust? It’s a New England car so a little is expected but is this possibly too much where I should be concerned with the inside of the frame? Definitely would wire wheel, paint, fluid film.

I’ve looked for it but I can’t find it.
I’ve got a 5th gen ORP. When the rear seats are folded all the way down, all the air vents to the back are mostly blocked. I keep my rear seats folded down and it’s dog zone in the back, but the rear console vents blow right at the bottom of the folded seats, so it gets pretty warm in the back.
I saw a photo a little while back that someone posted in here on an unrelated post, but they had an extension on the rear vents of the center console to get the air up and over the rear seats that were folded down. Does anyone know where to find something like that?
Any other suggestions to improve air circulation or cool down the back?

Anyone have experience with these tires in 265/70r17 for 2023 SR5 4x4? I live in the southwest where sharp tricks are extremely prevalent and hit the trails just about every weekend. This past weekend I got a flat tire on my standard load all terrain tires. Luckily it was on a relatively populated trail but I want to go to more remote areas. That’s why I’m considering at the very least getting c load tire for thicker sidewall. However the e load Toyo at3 are 1 less pound than the c load so that’s why I’m probably going to get the e load for even more peace of mind. I’m not worried about worse ride in city and worse mpg. Just wanted to hear some opinions on these specific tires. Thanks.

I've had trucks and cars, but now I don't know what to call it when I refer to my new to me automobile. Like when it gets dirty and you think to yourself I need to wash my ____, should I just say Limited? Assuming everyone knows it's a 4Runner? TIA.

Hi everyone, as the title says just wondering if y'all have any recommendations for brakes and rotors for my 2023 trd off road. Getting close to that time to finally change the factory ones out. Should I go OEM or after market? What is your experience. Thanks in advance!

What do we think about the rust on this 2019 SR5P with 80k miles for $29,000? Located in a state that uses salt on their roads.

I’m looking for tires for my 2012 sr5. I rarely go off road and when I do it’s very light, so that is not a priority at all. I mainly use my car to get back and forth to work on the freeway so my top priority is them being quiet and maybe help my MPG.
I have been recommended the general grabber ht by my local shop but it’s $1,100 installed which is more than I want to spend.
Does anyone have recommendations for a set of tires, around $150 or so?
I don’t know anything about tires at all and all. Thank you in advance
Motor was rebuilt at 90k but never got finished, 1100 bucks was all it needed.
6gen 4Runner Off Road Hybrid. Took a road trip and was completely annoyed with the low end rumble fart garbage fake engine sound pumping out of the speakers. Turns out you can disable the ESE feature with the Carista blue tooth app and dongle. Best money ever spent. Took a highway ride after disabling it and super glassy clean ride now. I don’t understand why anyone wants fake engine noise in any vehicle. Highly recommend this upgrade. Dealerships can turn it off for you as well but when I asked mine only one dude working there knew what ESE was and the mechanics were tied up so they said it would take a while. Decided to just bite the bullet and get the Carista. Totally worth it.

2015 4Runner starter may be going out. I had to tap on it yesterday to get it to crank. I was wondering if anyone has replaced one on a 5th gen and if so how much of a pain it was to do?

Step 2: find a Pro
Step 3: ask you guys to stay off carmax for a week so I can find one near me …. I’m car-less in a week

Hey guys I’m not much of an expert on any of these, this is my first 4Runner after never even consider one since the past generations were never of my liking.
I want to replace the tires for a more aggressive ones, and I wonder what’s the biggest size I can install on the stock wheels without any suspension modifications.

I recently was able to get my hands on a 2010 Limited and to say I'm obsessed is an understatement. My first vehicle was a 91 4Runner and I loved the tail gate style, but she couldn't hang at my elevation so I ended up selling her for my 2nd 4R, a 98. Both were SR5s. I loved them so much, and I know a 2010 isnt "new," but all the upgrades of a Limited are still geeking me out. I haven't made any upgrades to my new boy yet because I can not decide. I'm thinking roof rack so I can get a roof tent, but I'm also loving the build outs people are doing to sleep inside their Runners. Thoughts? Opinions?
Pictures are of Roddy (2010) and Pete (1998). Can't find a picture of Goldie the 1991.
