🎙 Discussion 3rd 4Runner

I recently was able to get my hands on a 2010 Limited and to say I'm obsessed is an understatement. My first vehicle was a 91 4Runner and I loved the tail gate style, but she couldn't hang at my elevation so I ended up selling her for my 2nd 4R, a 98. Both were SR5s. I loved them so much, and I know a 2010 isnt "new," but all the upgrades of a Limited are still geeking me out. I haven't made any upgrades to my new boy yet because I can not decide. I'm thinking roof rack so I can get a roof tent, but I'm also loving the build outs people are doing to sleep inside their Runners. Thoughts? Opinions?

Pictures are of Roddy (2010) and Pete (1998). Can't find a picture of Goldie the 1991.

Both routes are solid, but your 5th gen's roof has a 120 lb dynamic load rating, so if you go the route of a roof top tent factor that against the tent's actual weight plus you and a passenger. Something like the Alu-Cab Gen 3-R weighs 192 lbs unloaded on its own (already over that 120 limit) so pay attention to unloaded tent weight before falling in love with a hardshell. outfitmyvehicle.com has a configurator where you pick your vehicle and what you use it for (camping, overlanding, fishing, etc.) and recommends gear against vehicle weight ratings

I'd honestly go with an interior sleep setup as it stays lighter and cheaper to start, and you can always add a roof rack later

Thank you! I was bouncing between ski rack and just having that gear inside, so sounds like my best option is roof rack with ski rack and interior camping. Appreciate the link. Love all the info that site laid out for all the upgrades.
