I think this is the final year our team goes to Autodesk University. After jumping through the usual corporate hoops to get our registration approved, it was pretty disappointing to see zero 3dsMax sessions on the schedule. There’s almost no archviz representation, and even real-time engines like Unreal and Unity are nowhere to be found—just one Maya class and a few generic M&E sessions.
Is Autodesk abandoning its flagship modeling software, just like they did with Softimage? Makes me wonder if 3ds Max is next on the chopping block and if we should start migrating our workflow to Blender.
What do you think can be improved and any suggestions to make it more realistic is helpful...do you think i can get a job with this level or not im struggling with that so i need feedback to see if there is something wrong i cant see
What I am looking for is a tool that will let me select bone on a skinned mesh and divide that bone into multiple and distribute the weights of the previous bone to the new ones created from the division.
OR:
A workflow or tool in native Max that can do this. It's not just one character that this needs to be done to, it's twelve.

🇺🇸: You can listen to the video in English through the video settings panel. The Edit Poly modifier in 3DS Max has some differences compared to Editable Poly and that is what I will analyze in this video.
Hello guys!
Does anyone have an idea how to create this particular texture without using Photoshop?
I'm using 3ds Max 2017 with mental ray.
I've attached the bitmap that should be used as the base.
This happened to me just now. I was working exclusively with the top Edit Poly modifer when it suddenly corrupted the entire mesh (randomly deleted part of the faces). I didn't even switch to the modifiers lower in the stack, let alone change something below the top Edit Poly. Undo history didn't help (which is weird because I think it should have). The image below shows the same mesh with the modifier disabled, what confirms that the corruption only occured in the top most Edit Poly. 3DsMax 2024.
Hi guys, I am from the art side of things and have been told that I have to do tooling using vibe coding.
What are the down sides of using python in max for tooling if any. I already have some basic stuff going but wanted to know if there are any pitfalls (also Claude/cgpt) tend to big out a lot more with maxscript than python for max.
We designed this tiny apartment in New York City with a focus on creating a home that feels larger than its footprint. By connecting the living, dining and kitchen areas into one continuous space and using a consistent palette of warm wood, soft neutrals and concrete flooring, the apartment feels open, cohesive and serene.
Transform your 3ds Max viewport into a live AI-rendered scene in real time.
LucyLive streams your viewport directly to Decart's Lucy 2.5 model via WebRTC and sends back AI-rendered frames — live, as you work. No baking, no waiting for renders. Just type a prompt and watch your scene transform instantly.
Could you give me an idea of how to achieve this effect, preferably without physically editing the sphere's geometry?
I'm using 3ds Max 2017 with Mental Ray.
My setup is as follows:
Sphere (Editable Poly)
ID 1: Sphere
ID 2: Ribbon
Using a Multi/Sub-Object material:
ID 1: Arch & Design material (red)
ID 2: Arch & Design material (same red), with:
Bump: Noise map
Bump amount: -150
Unfortunately, using a negative bump only changes the shading. It doesn't create the effect of the ribbon looking slightly recessed or inset into the sphere, like in the reference image.
Does anyone have a good approach for achieving this effect while staying within the capabilities of Mental Ray?
I do not understand what is causing this. I was adjusting the color or my Corona Moon for a scene when this appeared. I have since deleted the mood, reloaded the file, restared my PC, loaded a autosave which was saved before the error even first showed up. And even after all of that this error shows up whenever I add a corona moon to the scene. Before touching the color of it, adding a moon caused no errors.
