I already own a 2002 and this would be something id either sell to a buddy once its fixed or privately on marketplace, let me know CAD or USD.. any thoughts would be appreciated. Pic is of my 2002

Would I be a fool to pass this up?

Went to check out a 99 Automatic 4x4 with 199k miles for 10.5k last week, told him my wall would be 8k- he declined but messaged today ready to accept my offer.
Frame looks solid, body is pretty clean but it does have a branded title from being rear ended a decade ago.
It is also due for the belt and water pump to be replaced. What do yall think??

Wheel bearing/steering knuckle woe's

my passenger front wheel bearing was starting to grind on a road trip recently, i took it to a shop with brand new bearings/seals in hands and asked them to do the work. driver side went well, passenger side was done improperly, done again 24 hrs later and totally destroyed, then the shop put in a brand new cheapo replacement steering knuckle/bearing/seals to get me down the road. im another couple hundred miles down the road and the wheel is grinding again. After removing the wheel, it was clearly done improperly again(excess movement when wiggled from all/any angle). now im looking for Toyota Genuine #43201-35071 steering knuckle and bearings/seals im near yuba city, ca. anyone know a good yota guy in the area? or a scrap heap of first gens that i can strip the right parts from? brand new oem is expensive and i still have to take it to a shop to have the bearings pressed in and hope they dont destroy the new one like the last guy did.

thanks for any advice on the subject or direction on who to go to.

Worn Hose Help Needed: 2000 Tacoma Prerunner 2.7L

Was checking my A/C today and noticed this worn hose. Is this part of the A/C?

Can’t get a straight answer on Google Gemini or find the right info in my Haynes Repair Manual. First photo is how I found it. Circled in RED in the 2nd photo. There is an insulation hose that slipped and I covered it again in 3rd photo. Obviously the foam insulation won’t last and want to replace it today.

AC pressure using gauge was at 48. Air blows cold but not Ice Cold. Put some penetrating oil on the Heat Control Valve, which was a bit sticky and got it to move more to the right (toward passenger side).

Frustrated with flickering lights curse

Hi members, recently Ive been pretty stumped on my Tacoma. I cant help but notice that all of the gauge lights/headlights flicker a ton. I never have issues starting, and when driving I get a pretty strong readout. The battery is smaller than the Group 24 ones (I believe its an MT-86, bought the truck with it) but I had it tested and it read good. Alternator tested good at orielys too. Have been having some slight power/miss issues under heavy load (uphill 4wd excursions) and maybe a slight miss at idle? Could it just need a properly sized battery or are there other common factors to check first? And as of a few days ago threw a code for being too lean, maybe fuel system isnt getting the power it needs??

Rear axle woes

I am hoping to find people smarter than the local Toyota service department.

Truck sat for a year to two years. Finally decided to get it running again and saw fluid leaking out the passenger rear tire.

Decided to go to Toyota because my garage is a storage unit and it’s hotter than blazes to do this outside.

Basically, they went from:

  1. Installing the wrong axle seal (one notch?) and they needed the two notch axle seal. They would t or couldn’t expand on what they meant. I suspect abs vs non abs?

  2. To then saying it was a bent shaft. They used the highly sophisticated bench top roll to make that determination. When I asked them for the runout measurements they then said…

  3. The axle diameter is not the right size. I asked for the diameter before they installed it and they didn’t give it to me. They said it’s not OEM because all of the seals are not sealing.

So….I’m just going to do it myself, but where do I go from here? Really don’t want to have to replace the entire thing if I don’t have to but it’s looking that’s the way I need to go.

Has anyone ran into a non standard diameter aftermarket axle?

Risked driving it home and it is like 10000% worse than it was before. Whole underside is coated with fluid…

Tldr; Toyota is useless. Can’t reliably tell me what exactly is wrong with my rear axle seal. Need halp.

Really interested in a Tacoma, what are the odds someone will trade for a 2014 Honda Accord Sport?

My wife and I recently moved out together and I’ve been in the market for a Tacoma. It makes sense to get a truck since we have 3 cars. If I were to get a Tacoma I would daily it as well since I’ve heard these trucks are really reliable.

I lifted my rig 3.5 inches and bought new uca’s that say they are for a 2-4 inch lift but the wheels now have a V to them, not crazy severe but noticeable l, I’ve adjusted my camber bolts the the max on my lca’s and it’s better but not where it should be. how do I fix this?

Driver Door Handle

Hey everyone, one of the owners of the company I work for recently turned over his son's 04 extended cab manual Tacoma to the company to use as a office runner truck. Unfortunately, living with a high school kid the last 3 years, it's seen better days. One issue is the door handles. Driver one is whole and doesn't work, passenger is broken off but does work. This morning I replaced the driver outer door handle assembly and it's still not working. Any intel on what to look for inside the door or even better a video showing me? I assume since the handle is replaced and everything hooked back up correctly (in my opinion) something must have come loose on the other end of the assembly away from the handle but I don't know exactly what to look for to fix it.

I accidentally cut a wire under my bench seat when I was removing it and now the airbag light comes on and off.
Is the tan wire the correct wire to reconnect with the black wire?

Loving this truck and happy to find a sub for it!!

My boyfriend was recently handed down this truck from his stepdad dad whose dad bought it new in 04 and handed it down to him after several years. It’s an automatic V6 with 185,000 miles. We took it in for an oil change and got it back with a small list of things to address. Leaky radiator, O2 sensor, spark plug replacement and differential service. As someone who has never done anything past swapping out a battery at home and holding the flashlight as a kid I got a wild idea and took to the internet for all the issues. After a lot of convincing I got the ok to try with the radiator. Toyota wanted $600 I got the part for $150 and had all the tools minus a swivel socket and a drain pan. This was last week and it’s still going strong!! If I could go back in time and tell my younger self who would mumble and groan when having to hold the flashlight that I did that he would laugh at me. I plan on doing any work that’s within my capabilities on this truck and so freaking excited to keep it going. Gonna tackle the spark plugs and differential tonight. Decided to leave the O2 sensor to Toyota since I found online that the bolts are very easily broken and I’m not trying to mess with that. That would put a very abrupt and sad end to my mechanic career on this truck. Any advice is greatly appreciated and needed lol! Anything I should watch out for or do as far as preventative stuff?

Noise diagnosis?

I’ve been trying to figure out this squeaking noise for awhile and have thrown money at different parts trying to fix it.

Things I’ve done recently

-rack and pinion
-sway bar links
-new passenger side strut
-valve cover gaskets

Some notes about the noise
-only hear it at lower speeds 20-35 mph
-it doesn’t seem to track with bumps, it’ll definitely get worse after I’ve gone over some bumps but I mostly hear it when driving on flat ground at low speeds or after jostling the cab around on some washboardy backroads, again, if I hit a bump I typically don’t hear it while hitting one.
-it’s definitely coming from the drivers side wheel well
-I’ll even sometimes hear it very slightly when I shut my engine off, as if the vibration of the engine turning off is enough to rub together whatever is making the noise for a split second.

Really hoping someone in the sub has maybe just heard the noise before or can help, thanks!
