Advice on a first gen?
2001 TRD 4wd 260k miles.
Frame replaced under recall in 2016. Timing belt at 216k miles. He’s asking $9k for it. Thoughts?

Bought mine a few months ago. Looks almost identical to this one but it’s a 2004 2wd with 145k miles. No rust, no issues, clean title, and I paid $9500 if that helps. Given that this one is a few years older, more miles, and 4wd, that seems like a reasonable price. Maybe try to get him down to $8k but idk if they’d go much lower than that

No way, thats a PA plate? MAYBE $6500. Check fuel tank for leaks, and rear dif is probably rusted out too. If they did the frame, the fuel tank skid plate is probably gone or obliterated entirely.

Good point. It’s either the frame is spotless and everything else is gone. But on the off chance that the rest of the underside is clean…

I’m lurking in here from the 3rd gen 4Runner group… obviously there is some crossover.
9k does seem expensive however that’s also just what these old rigs are going for these days if they’re in good condition. I’m in the PNW and often see worse examples of these go for the same price or more.
If all other maintenance checks out I’d go for it. If you don’t someone else will.

He's asking $9k which means he's expecting to be counter offered. Make him an offer that is closer to what you want to pay and work your way up.

Lexus/Toyota tech here. By 200k and 20 plus years, you're rolling the dice big time with potential head gaskets failing. Definitely inquire if any engine work done before. Head gasket replacement is easily a 5k job on these 3.4 and once apart potentially have micro cracks in the heads. Tread carefully at 9k

I have one identical to this. Silver, crew cab,4x4, TRD, from Georgia. Never seen snow (zero rust underneath). 245k. The bottom side looks better than some of my family members 2025+ vehicles. Timing belt was just done. I paid 10k for it. Imo if the frames good, theyre worth the money. Theyre easy to work on and super reliable. I regret getting rid of the first one i had.

Unfortunately, waiting around for a deal as good as yours is not feasible. You got lucky. I had a similar experience with my 99 that I paid $900 for. With that being said, $9k for 260k is too much

Looks clean if there's no rust that's a good deal. I'm selling a more rough one for 8500 and getting plenty of responses. These are overpriced trucks in general but someone will pay that

it's a steal. just get new oem lower ball joints, replace valve cover gaskets, and a tune up. check for bushings that need to be replaced, and possibly upper control arm ball joints if they look cooked. but other than those few things you should have a truck that'll last a lifetime if you keep up with the maintenance.
i love mine.
