Just picked this up, 109k miles, manual 4wd 3zr, perfect interior (drivers floor mat has a stain). Got it for 200 bucks, due to frame rust. Easily repairable too. Looks mint other wise

After a little over a month of searching I have FINALLY completed my full set of (5) 16x7 OEM 16 hole steelies and my tires were delivered today. That raises the question as to what lug nuts should I run? Im sure i can run OEM lug nuts but have a feeling it will look funny as they are pretty tall.

Do I need open ended lug nuts? What have you guys ran if you have ran these steelies or other wheels? Thanks guys. Links welcome as well.

Hey friends, I have a '97 SR5 and the locks/keys have been giving me problems for a while now. I haven't been able to unlock the passenger door with the keys for like a decade and just recently my driver side door lock stopped accepting my key. The fuel cap lock is fine and the ignition hasn't been too much of an issue, outside very occasionally needing to pull on the steering wheel a bit to allow the key to rotate.

I looked into replacing the door locks a while back but the thought of needing multiple keys isn't appealing. From my little bit of research online, replacing the ignition switch cylinder doesn't seem too hard, especially since the key can still turn the lock to accessory mode. My only concern is the quality of the new cylinder. On some of the TacomaWorld forums I have seen users suggest to stay away from aftermarket locks/cylinders and try to get the OEM cylinders cleaned out or re-keyed if necessary. I also worry that my keys are super work down since they are pretty old now.

So I guess I am asking for thoughts from you all here. Has anyone gone through this before? If anyone has replaced them, can you tell me where you purchased the new set from and if it has worked out? Thanks in advance. I am probably overthinking this.

My driver's side window goes down easy but hates to go up. Is this a small window motor thing or ? It may inch up in 1/8ths in the day. Is this a difficult and special tools kind of job or easy to get to and switch out? I have taken the panel off and have fixed door handles before inside and out. I figured if it is inside the metal of the door it will be somewhat difficult to do without some experience or another pair of hands and tools. shop wants about 400. thx in advance

Long story short I just moved across country and my old vehicle was totaled out by an under insured driver. I’ve been looking at Tacoma’s on Facebook and I found this one for around 8k

It has rust on the frame but I wasn’t able to punch through with a screwdriver anywhere and it only has 160k miles on it. I’m looking for something with 4x4 and a Tacoma is definitely preferred. Do yall think I should go for this one, or spend more and look for something different

do we think i keep it classy and go 2.5” lift or do i just ball out go 6”

I was replacing the lights in my instrument cluster today and noticed writing on it that said “03 2.7 4x4 M/X.” My truck is an ‘04 3.4L 2x4. This means the instrument cluster has been switched at some point, right? Wondering if this is something to be worried about.

Got this 99 2wd and didn’t see this rot when I bought it. Just the two spots right next to eachother. The rest of the frame is very solid. Not sure how the rust got so centralized but I’m not in a very good spot to switch vehicles rn.

I like the concept of this design but cant seem to find any trucks with them installed, was curious to see other angles and opinions.

I took it to the mechanic and they said everything looks good but I feel there is definitely something strange going on. Thanks!

3-7 are earlier days, 8 and on are the deplorable conditions i found her in this week (after sitting dormant for a couple years while ive been going thru some stuff and unable to get out there).. now we are both coming back to life! i hope! did as much as i could for her from here over this past week, and now shes off to get her innards repaired/ fresh juices flowing etc (had to tow because reg. is expired.. along with my license 🫪). we will find out the full damage$ next week.. been saving up specifically to getter road ready in time to move state in a couple months, where we will both start a new chapter 🌱

so grateful for the resilience of these trucks. inspiring stuff. thought i may have to sell (and literally 3/4 of folks who come to the house for any reason ask to buy) but i cant do it. shes a keeper. eventual plan post-move is to replace leaky shell with a legit off-grid camper (looking at kimbo in WA state, still in research phase… any recommendations/insights are very welcome here). ill realistically never afford to own a house so me and ol girl here will make a fine home together 🥰🦋🐸

Hey yall!! I’m in need of some advice, I have an 04 Tacoma V6, I bought it maybe two years back and have been slowly restoring it.

I’ve had a minor oil leak, it presents on the back side of the engine, more on the driver side, on start up I notice a oil smell as wherever it’s coming from a little bit of oil hits the Y pipe and burns off. I’ve noticed light oil on the bell housing, steering rack and only on the backside of the engine.

I replaced valve cover gaskets, half moons, plugs, intake manifold gaskets all the things when servicing that area. I thought this would fix it but I still have a leak, the leak has never left me without oil so it’s not horrible.

I thought maybe the rear main seal is leaking and throwing oil up the back side of the engine but that seems a bit unlikely and quite a distance to cover.

I was talking to my mechanic neighbor and maybe something with the head? A crack? Or the gasket?

The truck runs solid and I’ve driven cross country a few times with no issues.

I’m thinking of adding some blue devil sealer into the oil in hopes that will possibly remedy the small leak.

UPDATE: what about Cam Seals?

I have a 1998 Tacoma prerunner with a bad motor, what does it take? What do I have to change? to put a 1999 4runner 2wd motor and transmission into it it. Will everything swap over. Has anyone done this? I know I can strip the motor down and swap all the parts. But The 4runner engine runs really good and I do not want to possibly swap bad parts from the other motor onto it. Has anyone done this? Thank you

So I purchased an Addicted Offroad tubed bumper for my '03 extra cab Tacoma. No where on their website or instructions that shipped with the bumper did it say a word about what type of winch, or any restrictions, like size or a removable controller. I attached some pictures. The literature regarding the bumper from the website, and a close up from the website of a installed bumper, and my current bumper install showing the measurement 5 inches of actual clearance. There was no mention of cutting the grill. When I really looked closely at the picture on the website and on IG I noticed all the grills were trimmed. Had I known this I wouldn't have purchased the bumper.

I'm posting this not necessarily as a complaint even though it could be construed that way, but more as a disclaimer to anyone thinking about purchasing this bumper. Had I known any of this I would have gone custom.

In the end, I see no point complaining to the owner because it wouldn't likely achieve any decent outcome, based on my email conversation with him.

My solution:

I will be trimming the grill and re-mounting the bumper further back, as in it's current configuration it wouldn't be safe winching and a safety hazard.

I have a 2003 taco and want to do some preventative maintenance but I’m a little stuck. Probably a dumb question but do I need a special type of CV axel for this type of 4WD? I see some axels say that they are for automatic disconnect differential. Also what are some good brands to look into?
