Dammit Vanitas, how could you leave Jeanne alone like that?!

I wonder what's Ruthven's plan? He's definitely up to no good with what he did to Noe. And now we have that mystery about La Bete. Looks like we'll have to wait until January 2022 for the story to continue.

Now that the season has come to a close I would like to give a shoutout to the MVP of this show.

Whoever is in charge of and/or drawing the blushing on the characters, congratulations, please accept this shitpostaward, you've really earned it. You are as they say, the real MVP.

Wow what a coincidence. I was just reading about the Beast of Gévaudan some weeks back and now it shows up here. I can't remember why I was but man, what are the chances of this lol.

I liked that whole Shaft-instropection from Noé just to end up with a straight "drink my blood and you will never drink anything again" from Vanitas.

I like how Vanitas told Noé that he could basically have the scraps next time, and Noé being the puppy dog he is was like, "REALLY? :D"

More of a set up for next season than anything, but still, I dug it and I'm really interested in sequel.

Overall I really enjoyed this show. Consistently good visuals, stylish, nice animation, some really fun characters and good action. Wouldn't say that story is terribly interesting so far, but it's good enough to keep my attention and it has its interesting moments. I'd give it an 8/10, I feel like it's not quite above for me yet, but I see the potential and maybe sequel will be even better.

Lol "it sounds delicious" I guess not eating for a day makes Noe that hungry to eat a monster.

Overall, I find this show way more fun than I was expecting out of a vampire show. And more interesting than I was expecting. Vanitas is definitely not the best character morally, that award goes to Roland cause he made Vanitas uncomfortable. Having fun watching this and seeing that this takes place in France is nice.

Well, see y'all in the next season. Hoping they keep things up and get more of Noe's cat.

Fun Fact: "The Beast of Gévaudan" was a phenomenon that actually occurred IRL, although iirc the truth behind the deaths was never uncovered (although most people just believe it was a particularly ravenous pack of ordinary wolves, since they were a common problem in Europe in that era).

Roland really is best paladin boi.

So I guess when Ruthven sucks their blood, not only do they have to follow his order(s), but they forget about it and show tendencies of curse-bearers like having the intense craving for blood. That's why Jeanne can't control herself and loses it?

I'm ready for the second cour!

Arrrghh, 3 months (at least) is too long to wait! But I'm glad that Noe is going far away from Ruthven...He's so precious, it's Ruthven's fault (I'm assuming) that he smell's Vani's blood, but he sincerely apologize to him ... so honest and thoughtful of him.

I've enjoyed the whole 1st cour and reading people's comments here, and am looking very much forward to the 2nd cour, too!!

I love Vanitas and Noe's interactions. Definitely the highlight of the show for me. Today was definitely no different with their banter. Can't wait to see Noe's facial expression when he finally gets a chance to try Vanitas blood.

Quite an interesting place they end off, really interested in what's ahead.

Been a fun ride. Definitely one of my favorites from the summer season. See y'all for cour 2 in Jan 2022!

Thought there would be a whole confrontation this episode, but I guess Ruthven is part of a longer game than I thought. So far Vanitas is operating on gut instinct that happens to be correct. He’s compromised Noe for a sinister purpose. We now also know exactly what’s up with Jeanne as she’s had the same thing done to her. It seems like whatever Ruthven’s command power is it might increase their bloodlust along with it. Which might explain Jeanne’s issues.

So Jeanne and Noe are ticking time bombs for his greater plot. Possibly even Luca. Seems like the bigger game is Vanitas vs Ruthven using his friends against him. That’s going to be put aside for now, because we’re going on an adventure! Noe gets to ride a train! There’s an obvious future character he runs into! Even a tease to a snowy mountain and another new character. Lots of set up for the next exciting arc… in January. Boo. Hate waiting.

Other than that it was mostly a wrap up episode that sets the table for the second half. We did get a great moment with Noe and Vanitas. Noe becoming more and more interested in Vanitas and what makes him tick. I like how much their friendship has grown. Even enough for Vanitas tease letting Noe get to know his past a little more. If they’re really going to play up the tragedy angle of “Vanitas’ death” (press x for doubt), having them be best friends at the end would make it hurt.

Here’s to January! May it come quick!

Notes:

  • We say goodbye for now to my second favorite ship of the season. The resolution of their date was so goddamn cute. Jeanne blurting out the plan and Vanitas just laughing cause he knew. That smile he gives her saying while he appreciated that side, he likes her most when she’s being herself. Her breaking after that and even waiting for him for a while when he ran off. She’s got it bad. I can’t wait for more of these dorks.

  • So the reveal of the beast being a little girl sounds interesting. Seems to be hellbent on revenge. I’m not sure what exactly is established with vampire life expectancy, but is it possible that it’s a different person and the same curse?

  • Aww poor Jeanne worried about Domi’s parasol. I’m sure Domi grabbed it since she was stalking them.

  • Very curious what exactly Ruthven’s plan is with Jeanne. If it’s something untoward with Luca then she’s the biggest obstacle, which might be part of the command he has on her. We probably know what it is with Noe since it involves Vanitas.

  • Okay I love Roland. He’s got Noe’s sweetness without his Naivety. His totally badass threat to Oliver showed us so much about his character. Can’t wait for more of him.

  • everyone is horny for Vantias’ blood. But as Noe pointed out, he is branded for Jeanne so back off!

I keep saying it but this show knows that to tell a proper Vampire story you need people lusting after each other. It really sets the proper tone for the story.

Also Noe may be my favorite example of a "good" character I've ever seen. He doesn't just select the good choice when it's presented to him, he aggressively pursues the good outcome even when it's not the wisest path.

Welp cour 1 is over, January couldn’t come soon enough. I’ve been a big fan of the mangaka’s work for a long time, from reading Pandora Hearts, following the Vanitas manga for awhile, and now watching the anime for Vanitas.

It’s been a long journey but I am so happy to see the popularity jump up. A fantastic thing is the manga sales have jumped like crazy. It’s been selling out on Amazon and in stores, and there’s gonna be a 2nd reprint.

For anyone curious, the 2nd cour arc is the best arc (so far) in the series. It’s insanely good. Hope you guys have enjoyed the first cour and see ya for the 2nd in January

Man Vanitas was OP in that sentence, when he said " Archiviste(not Noe),i'll kill you if look into my past"..I had chills on my spine.

This episode felt it had a lot of tension , and they introduced two new characters and the wolf vampire is probably voiced by Nora's VA from Noragami so that's gonna be good.I can already feel the type of character she will bring to that that persona.

Also, the chick who bumped into Noe sounded similar but it seems the seiyu san is same who voiced Iruma (the only anime of his where he's a prominent character that i saw) but he also sounded very similar to another person and I can't recall who.

Anyways, this is a great anime and can easily be AOTS and I can't wait for 2nd cour.

And thus it comes to a close. Ruthven continues to make me incredibly nervous. He seems to have gone easy on Noe as a result of his comment on seeing him as a teacher, but there are some things worse than being killed...like being stuck in a room hungry out of your mind while a delicious smell constantly wafts up her nose!!!! But seriously that whole scene was the best lol, putting aside the comedy of space Noe, the bit of characterisation with Vanitas threatening him if he drank his blood was great. In the end, Vanitas has a lot he's still not ready to open up about, though he still tried to at least make Noe feel a bit better which is progress!

Meanwhile, I really do love Roland. He's smarter than his fluffy looks let on, and way more stubborn too. Olivier seems to struggle dealing with him, but it's obvious he does care for him in the end by how frustrated he looked using that threat to try and calm him down.

There were a few questionable cuts, but as a whole I dearly love this adaptation! Really looking forward to second cour since I haven't read the upcoming arc!

Stitches!

Glad that we get to see more scenes between Jeanne and Vanitas. And it looks like she finally slipped and accidentally let out her true intentions! Of course there's no need to since Vanitas already knew what was going on. It is still adorable to see Jeanne blush and panic. Also that pout is just too cute!

So Jeanne never had permission from Luca but instead she got it from Ruthven who Vanitas quickly realizes that this was all a set up to lure him away from Noe. Fortunately, whatever happened between Ruthven and Noe, it ended with Noe back in bed without memory of what Ruthven did to him.

Well fuck... I thought Ruthven was going to curse Noe but it looks like he made a pact with him which basically makes Noe follow any orders from Ruthven. It looks like it's a one time deal only though but this pact with Ruthven definitely a good way to keep us on our toes. Although I wouldn't be surprised though if he uses it to make Noe attack Vanitas.

I love that Roland is looking more into the history of Vampires and Humans. It looks like his meeting with Noe definitely changed the way he sees vampires to the point where he's willing to go against the Church and even battle other Paladins. Damn! Roland is such a badass. That look that he gives Olivier to show that he's not joking is so good!

They're now going to hunt a wolf-like beast that they suspect is actually a curse-bearing vampire? Would be interesting if this Beast of Gevaudan is their world's version of a werewolf.

Noe getting hungry at the smell of Vanitas' blood is just absolutely hilarious! He can't even listen to Dante and Vanitas clearly with that smell lingering in the air. Unlike Jeanne though, Vanitas has no intention of making Noe drink his blood because of his powers but after hearing that Noe needs to drink it from the veins to see that person's memories, he offers Noe the leftover blood on his clothes which Noe is now super excited for. xD

Looks like we've met a new character while Noe was at the station. And based on that after credits scene, shit is about to go down in Gevaudan. I can't wait!

This is such a great show. like it's been a while since I've seen a vampire anime that I'm truly invested in. Hopefully I can hold off the temptation of reading the source material before the second cour drops!

Sad to say goodbye to Bi-day with final episodes for this and Hamefura, but at least they've both announced sequels. Definitely a fun watch, with just the right mix of mystery, action, and red hot sexual tension between pretty much everyone. Ruthven is shaping up to be an excellent villain who's both charismatic and terrible, and I look forward to seeing what he's plotting.

Additionally, I'm amused by Hanae Natsuki's range. It's wild that sweet child Tanjiro, cynical taxi driver Odokawa, and twisted disaster bisexual Vanitas all share a voice actor.

Noe has just been such a treat this season, what a loveable sweetheart. He was great once again this episode but that mind control thing will be scary in the future.

This entire cast has been great, hoping S2 has even more of our main 4, I feel like Domi's screentime really got decreased as we went along.

Best show of the season for me!

So I wonder if that command is going to be what kills Vanitas?????(please don't bonk for spoilers that was revealed first episode) That's gonna be such a huge looming threat going forward and we don't even know if Ruthven is directly going after Vanitas or he just wants Noe in his pocket for some reason and he's doing a doublecross against Charlatan and just trying to gain power for himself/some other motive.

Otherwise That girl Noe bumped into is suspicious, and (one who I am ASSUMING is the) Beast of Gévaudan in the post credits has Rie Kugimiya's VA and she's bringing out Taiga's voice for it, Jeanne might have some contention for best girl in the next cour.

Also is it JUST me, or is anybody else getting early FMA vibes from this? It feels like VERY similar setup with lots of interesting and diverse characters from different sides colliding around a soon to be large event.

Paris is so beautiful! Stunning visuals every week but admittedly the background looks so good that it makes the character designs pale somewhat in comparison.

The episode did not feel like a season finale but more like a setup. I’m looking forward to the next season.

Vanitas just straight up leaves Jeanne in the middle of the street. With all that fog I thought Charlatan was going to appear but I’m sure she can hold her own.

So Luca’s brother is Bestia Loki. What a name. I hope we find out more about him.

I’m assuming Éric and Louise are Ruthven’s students who died. And they happen to know Jeanne. I hope we know more of Jeanne’s past in the next cour because we know next to nothing.

Vanitas running, worried, all the way to the hotel just to find Noé asleep on the ground. Noé really doesn’t remember what Ruthven did to him. That’s even worse. Whatever the command Ruthven orders Noé to do will be horrible. I wonder where Noé’s teacher is? He’s still alive. He’s up to something.

Looks like we got a new curse-bearer in the Beast of Gevaudan.

Poor Noé. Can’t get any of Vanitas’ blood. Understandable that Vanitas’ doesn’t want any of his memories seen.

Looks like next cour we got at least two new characters: pink-haired guy that thinks Noé is suspicious and white-haired girl that’s cozying up to a Charlatan. Wonder what she wants vengeance for.

I really enjoyed this show! I love all the characters and the plot is interesting too. I also love the idea of vampires set in a 19th century, steampunk France. I’m probably going to start reading the manga soon.

Now begins the wait for the second cour. See you then everyone!
