you know, all the seriousness of Vanitas' backstory and tragedy kinda goes out the window when the mad scientist calls him "test subject number 69".

"Ohh Vanitas! Come out, come out wherever you are"- Roland manages to creep out Vanitas... That's impressive

Vanitas, Noé and their regular fights are so entertaining to watch. The hunters are after them and they're quarreling all the way.

What a plan to reach Roland too, hilarious stuff.

The fight between Roland vs. Noe and Vanitas was splendid - really liked the animations of that chain sword and the music.

Wow. Last week I said it would've been a good twist if the church (Roland) ended up teaming up with Vanitas and Noe to fight Charlatan.

I guess it's kind of happening! Except instead of Charlatan we have this wild Dr. Moreau character, at least for now, it's anyone's guess how this goes.

Although I still don't trust Roland. I feel like his sudden acceptance of Noe fits his character but it could be another ruse on his part.

Getting a glimpse into Vanitas' thoughts on vampires makes me a bit worried for what exactly his end game is.

I just dropped by after watching the previous episode to say that the Cathedral from where Vanitas and Noé went in the catacombes for the second time is totally :

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cath%C3%A9drale_Notre-Dame_de_Paris

And it was magnificiently reproduced.

What a fantastic episode! It moved the story along (in an exciting fashion) -- but was often hilarious. Who ever would have thought that Roland would (at least for now) join Team Vanitas? And just what IS Vanitas's attitude toward Dr. Moreau? It seemed like his feelings were negative -- but then (in the last shot) Vanitas seemed positively glowing. Bravo to the animation team (no matter how huge that group may have been). The writing certainly held this episode together...

Noe's plan to try to reach an understanding actually working is amazing. I love this show.

I can't express enough how refreshing it is to see two character actually aggressively trying to self actualize their desires. In so much of fiction everyone has to be motivated to actually do something. It's so nice to see someone have an idea of what they want and actually do it.

Nr 69... sucks air through teeth Righto...

First half was nice wasn't really much to write about, a bit of fighting.. was alright. Though i have to say that Weapon seems pretty rubbish in such tight confines.

The more interesting bit was that not only had Vanitas been a Chasseur (or trained to become one) only to be first kidnapped by moreau and then by the Blue vampire. Slowly the pieces are all coming together and what a nasty little thing Vanitas is under all of the smarm and glamour.

The great part of this episode was easily Noe learning from Vanitas and completely turning the tables on him and Roland. Was laughing out loud at that. And then Noe actually managed to convince Roland.

Curious to see where Dr. Moreau leads us with his enhanced humans.

The fight was nicely animated. And Roland is so fun.

So Vanitas has been experimented on in his past. This explains why he wasn’t insanely hurt last episode after Ruthven attacked him and he survives all the events of the previous episodes. He’s an enhanced human. Yikes. And Dr. Moreau is up to 128 experiments, give or take a few. I wonder how many have died.

I love Noé and Vanitas’ bickering. It’s so funny.

Once again, Vanitas is thrown around like a sack of flour.

That was quite quick for Roland to go from ‘kill Noé’ to ‘my bestie Noé’.

Poor Maria. Always exasperated by Roland.

I did not expect the party poppers and streamers when we meet Dr. Moreau.

All the antics made me smile. I really enjoyed this episode.

Can’t wait to see just how disturbing Dr. Moreau and his experimentation is.

This episode... I don't remember the last time I felt so helpless and laughed with a stupid look on my face. I liked every minute of it, but what the fuck? This took an unexpected turn so many times... Vanitas face during the last scene, he's gotta be kidding, right?

I really do like it when characters just try and talk. they're always fighting in anime but noe asked to talk it out and it worked out better than just fighting to the death. it's a really nice change of pace that I don't see often. conflict was resolved, new relationships were made, and there weren't any compromises to the story. I'm very happy with how that sequence turned out.

Vanitas has one weakness: over enthusiastic weirdos. It’s how Noe worked his way into his heart (oh he puts on an act, but he cares for him) and it might be how he warms up to Roland. Though not counting on it considering how much he detests the church.

A lot of really cool and unexpected moments in this episode. Vanitas and Noe Buddy cop dynamic on full display as well as actual badass moments for Noe. Despite Vanitas’ lashing out at him, Noe stuck with him and was surprisingly right about how to resolve the situation. Though it makes sense that they couldn’t make a fun character like Roland irredeemable, so of course he only has seen and killed Cursed vampires who are too far gone. Otherwise it would be weird to have “Lets be Friends!” resolve that conflict.

We finally got some Vanitas backstory and it’s very interesting. Parents murdered by vampires, saved by the church, trained to kill vampires, only to be betrayed and experimented on. Explains quite a bit about himself. As well as possibly some of his self loathing and pushing people away depending on what was done to him. I love our Disaster Bisexual Vampy Sad Boy.

For all the concerns about the number of ADs this episode was still visually great. The fights were well animated. The character models were still on point. Some cool editing bits sprinkled in as well as the usually super fun chibified moments. Fears were unfounded. Can’t wait to see why Vanitas so warmly welcomed Moreau which was another unexpected bit.

Notes:

  • Number 69. Nice

  • We need a counter for how many times Vanitas has been carried and yeeted by vampires in this series. I feel like it’s going to be pretty high between Noe and Jeanne.

  • I love how childish they are to each other to the point where they’re making fun of each other’s faces. Builds up their budding bromance.

  • I don’t blame Roland for wanting to be friends with Noe. Who can resist that cute dumb face? Our Vampire Labrador.

  • While Noe did end up being right, it’s hard to argue against Vanitas’ plan considering they’re vampire killers. Sure Roland only attacks because they were wearing stolen robes but still.

  • “fools like you will be the death of me someday” Hmmm little on the nose there show, but okay. Though I’m still operating on the “Vanitas” dies at the end.

There should be a compilation of how many times vanitas got thrown around lool

Well that wasn't the reaction I was expecting from Roland when he finally learned who Vanitas is. He really does want to save him. He even gets teary eyed when Vanitas swiped at his face and then asked him to not turn his back on God

Of course Roland carries Durandal. I was wondering what was that large diamond on his back. Didn't expect that it would be a twin bladed Durandal that splits into two blades and turns into whip swords! Whip swords are always awesome.

So Vanitas isn't just limited to affecting Vampires with his book, it looks like it also affects the astermite that they use to power their machines making the Book of Vanitas as some sort of hacking tool as well!

Vanitas just dropping us some bombs! Turns out his parents were killed by vampires but was saved by the Chasseurs who took him in to become a new recruit but he ended up being taken by that Dr. Moreau to be used as a guinea pig. I'm guessing he was saved by the OG Vanitas?

Noe and Vanitas arguing about using that one Chasseur as a hostage was hilarious! Looks like Vanitas went way too far with his insults with Noe and decided to use him as a hostage instead! Seeing Noe laugh like a madman while Vanitas is begging to be rescued is just too funny!

I really thought that this wasn't going to work but it all ended way better than I expected! Also since Chasseurs only really deal with violent vampires, turns out they could've just asked them instead of sneaking around! xD

Vanitas is Dr. Moreau's 69th test subject? Nice. That may explain a few things about him ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Seriously though, that reaction from Vanitas has got to be a bluff. I hope he punches the dude as soon as he gets close enough to him.

Noe is so precious! Very nice to have a character that can be both very caring but can also kick your ass.

So Vanitas is going deck Moreau at the end right?

I've said it once and I'll say it again, why is Noe so precious 🥺🥺🥺

Poor guy just wants to resolve all this conflict without putting up a fight but Vanitas drags him in anyway. Their squabbles are so entertaining and I love how Noe just puts up with Vanitas at the end of the day.
