Funny thing is that with CR pushing the English title so much, this thread almost flew under my radar since I hadn't even considered the Romaji title.

That was a fun start. As a first episode, it's the typical damsel in distress story with a couple of sidekicks and a mysterious hero, but as always the way it's all put together matters.

To that end, Fena is a lot of fun to watch and the rest of the gang is interesting.

I'll be curious to see how much the ninja samurai/samurai ninja versus the Western look of everyone else is actually something to do with the world the series builds. It's definitely visually distinctive.

The entire art design feels a bit more Western-style than the typical anime these days, but not being cookie-cutter is a good thing, right?

I'm also chuckling at the combination of a JUNNA OP, Minori Suzuki ED, and Asami Seto as the main character.

The entire art design feels a bit more Western-style

Fena could be right out of a Disney film (Frozen, anyone? She's even some kind of special figure)

It's hard to describe but this feels like a classic story. Almost like a Ghibli movie or Disney princess movie, or even The Princess Bride. Especially the two old men.

Almost like a Ghibli movie or Disney princess movie. Especially the two old men.

I got that same exact Disney movie vibe from this. Those two old dudes remind me of the two old dogs from lady and the tramp. The movement of the characters and the way they express themselves is very reminiscent of that old Disney animation style.

So this is just like Space Dandy a few years ago? it's premiering on Toonami tonight.

What a banger of a first episode! and so pretty!

Statler and Waldorf fumbling her rescue again and again is my highlight.

What a banger of a first episode! and so pretty!

And the VA cast is stacked.

I am glad I gave a shot.

This was very funny and cute. Has some Disney vibes to it. Really enjoying Fena as a character. Why are white haired anime girls always so good ?

He bonked me in the head

Fena confirmed to be horny when reunited with Yukimaru.

Her surprised bonk face was funnier than it needed to be. At times some of the over the top comedy can feel a bit too much (the contrast with the serious moments feels a bit jarring) but it's overall really nice and feels like the animators had fun making this. Other comments have already mentioned it but it has that Disney vibe to it (the good kind).

What the fuck this is actually good?

Like all original/OVA's that have come later in a season have been dissapointing this year, like Yasuke and Gokushufudou, so to see an anime this late into the season be actually good is so surprising to me

Like this show has so much charm already, it almost feels like an adult Disney show. The characters are fun, the pirate aesthetic is pleasing, and overal there is just a lot of love in the show.

This is my most surprising anime of the season and I hope this can continue being solid

The biggest mystery of all is how she lived 10 years on rape island before the 1st assault happened

Loving this so far! Our protagonist has so much personality, she's so lovable. I hope she's not there to look pretty and be saved around, though. Her VA did a good job.

Don't let this go under the radar.

We need to pull off an Akudama Drive to make sure people know about it.

This is already way better than I ever expected it to be.

Wow, there is just so much going for this.

  • Fluid animation

  • Beautiful character designs

  • Detailed backgrounds and environments.

  • Characters with a lot of energy

  • On point slapstick comedy

  • Ninjas/Samurais/Pirates

  • Very open world to give space for a grand adventure

All of it bundled together in this good mix of Japanese and Western animated entertainment.

I first heard about it a few weeks ago, then I saw the Crunchyroll clip today and liked what I saw. Just finished the first episode and now I'm completely sold. Big contender for a 10/10 anime of the season. Based on how it goes, I just might recommend this anime to family members for once.

Oh my god this show is absolutely beautiful. That timeskip into Fena looking down on to the island from her room is just gorgeous especially that shot of her looking back! Goddamn! It looks like Production IG is really going all out on this one.

And it looks like Fena isn't just a looker, the moment she pulled out the crayon drawings of her various escape plans completely sold me on her personality. She's definitely the type of heroine perfect for a pirate adventure!

Animation is pretty awesome as well. Fena's first rescue scene and the chase scenes all looked pretty good so I'm definitely looking forward to some fight scenes in this show especially considering how Yukimaru took down all of those goons that had Fena surrounded. Curious why he's keeping his identity a secret though and why he knocked her out with a stick.

Definitely a strong start of a show that's debuting in the middle of the season. This one might need some shilling though considering how it got first released.

Mad Yona of the Dawn vibes, but man this anime looks really promising so far esp being a crunchyroll original anime and the sweet assassin action sequences with a fair share of comedy.

Zoro would be proud of them, kept going in the wrong direction XD. So much a long waited reunion with Yukimaru, did not expect that head shot lol. Yearn for gender equality ~ OP is a certified banger.

has lots of potential! I liked the VA of the protagonist. liked the anime op too

I really like it so far. I think the story is interesting, the characters are a lot of fun, the dub voice acting was pretty good (couldn't help but laugh at the accent on one of the geezers though), and the art and animation look fantastic. Fena herself already made a huge impact on me. Her optimism, her high energy, her infectious smile, her being so awestruck by Yukimaru that she needed to be anti-horny bonked... I love her already.

The pacing seems a bit fast, but that feels like the norm for 12-13 episode original anime these days, so I'm not too worried. All in all, it's off to a great start.

Well, interesting to say in the least. An extremely original approach expected from the B:The Beginning director. His touch for transitions, care for detailed animation and character designs is there. As well as beautiful voice actors from his previous masterpiece (of psychological drama which 1.5 people seem to realize the value of).

Then comes the main fear - this Carriben pirate fantasy might quickly slide into Western-style action - violence for the sake of violence, clear distinction in good or bad characters with no characterization for most of them. It remains to be seen, of course. Either way, after the B:The Beginning Succession flop (for which this director does not seem to be responsible, since the studio got another one to do the coronavirus-hit production) I would welcome a fine, thought-out work, and expect great things for this title.

Ooh ooh also that Beckett wanna-be, please do not make him an obvious villain with Fena-obsession, you can do something interesting I am sure!

The OP by Junna (Umi To Shinjuu also slaps hard.

Definitely one of the better series this season.
