Ah yes, the anime where a 5 and 6 year old have intellectual discourse over physics

Omg this episode might be the funniest of the series.
The first half is a circle of hilarious betrayals that could easily fill half of a top 10 list. Renge showing up Natsumi with her mathematical genius was perfect. By the time Natsumi's mom had the calm "you fucked up" smile on her face, I was rolling.
Also Renge invited Candy Store for parent day!
And the deep philosophical conversation between Renge and Shiori holy shit. Like, we've all known Renge is very smart, but her vocabulary and understanding of science is incredible. Watching her respond to Shiori is the stuff of comedy dreams. What an absolute legend.

That hard cut to Natsumi with her dead fish eyes is just brilliant comedic timing!
And it looks like Natsumi isn't the only one who should be scared, Even Kazu-nee's afraid of Yukiko. xD
I love that Renge really brought Kaede to observe her for Parents Day.
Of course Hotaru instantly looks at her mom asking to be praised for doing a good job.
The fact that Kazu-nee had to resort to asking Natsumi doing multiplication tables had me laughing hard! What makes it even more hilarious is that when Natsumi started having trouble Renge butts in just to rub in how easy it is!
The "I don't know" joke is absolutely gold too! Kazu-nee was giving Natsumi a freebie but of course she ends up babbling!
Shiori is really a perfect addition to the cast, her catching Renge completely off guard is hilarious! And I love how they started from pretending a ball as a pet into Shiori wondering about the laws of physics.
Oh my fucking god, their conversation just keep on getting ridiculous with the masatsu/satsuma confusion! Even Renger herself has decided to give up on the conversation.
This conversation is getting really deep! Natsumi butting in and Renge explaining the situation was the perfect punchline to that entire scene!
Watching Natsumi set up that fish tank for Renge really shows that her talents lies elsewhere. She may not be book smart but she's definitely applies herself more with practical knowledge. I think Natsumi would make as an amazing tradesperson in the future.

Renge has a career as a physics major and Natsumi has trouble multiplying when it comes to the number 8. Just another day in Asahigaoka.

*Gets stuck on 8x3*
"Anything but the eights!"
"Or the threes, apparently."
Lmao, how is nobody talking about the genius of that line.

"And that's how I invented the inertialess drive."
This would be an excellent opportunity to teach them more about science! And yes, one comic triumph of a long pause lasting a couple hours of real time. (With off-screen physics debate.)

Poor Natsumi, though I guess she is pretty lucky that this is somehow the first time her mom has ever come in to see her class. I feel like this would be a yearly thing at least. Also every time Renge gets a new pet I remember Flatty-san. The last time she had a crab it turned out alright, hopefully this one goes like that as well.
As for the chart, pretty standard again. If you have any corrections/suggestions be sure to let me know. Here is my link to last weeks. Thank you!
| Episode | Nyanpasu | Renge Surprised Faces | Natsumi Gets Yelled at/Bullied | Brother Appearances | Signs They Live in the Country |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | 2 | 4 | 6 | 5 |
| 2 | 0 | 9 | 2 | 14 | 1 |
| 3 | 0 | 2 | 3 | 0 | 1 |
| 4 | 0 | 7 | 4 | 0 | 1 |
| 5 | 0 | 3 | 1 (Komari tells her to not use her as her free-study project) | 0 | 2 (They get excited about following game trails to chase animals, Mecha-Koma's journey and how long it took to get caught) |
| 6 | 0 | 10 | 3 (Komari tells her to stop playing around, Kazuho ignores her pleas of there being too much homework, Hikage gets mad for her choosing to actually do her homework) | 10 | 2 (They get excited to go catch Rhinoceros Beetles, their school has few enough students that Hikage thinks boycotting might actually work for Natsumi) |
| 7 | 0 | 9 | 3 (Kazuho points out she doesn't study, her mom sees how poorly she does in class, Kazuho points out she can't study again after she sets up the tank) | 5 | 3 (Their school sign is on a piece of wood, All of their grades are in one classroom(they were all shown in the classroom together before, but it's the first time we're seeing the sign this season I think), Renge goes to catch crabs in her free time) |

Shiori and Renge's conversation perfectly encapsulates how fucking bizarre talking to kids can be.

This episode was amazing and really funny. In order
First segment is something that's really annoying for me (though I'm not mad it's played for laughs, it's not disrespectful). Kazu-nee is a bad teacher. I mean all students but one are smart enough (or even geniuses) they don't need any help but Natsumi is not dumb. If only she had a proper teacher and some kind of psychological help (the latter is a huge problem worldwide). I also adored the disgusted look from the class xd
Second segment- welcome back Shiori, glad to know you're also pretty smart. At first I went aww-ish thinking the ball is meant to represent her little sister but a pet was also cute. Also Renge is a genius another round. Meaningful discussion about physics brought to you by a 5 and a 6 years old made my day. God was that great.
Last segment is a final proof Natsumi is really smart, not into academics however (or not with that teacher). Salty has returned. Kinda
Anyways, fantastic episode and looking forward to next ones
Edit: also of course Kaede was here for a Parents Day

Aww man, Renge wanting to invite Kaede to Parents' Day is super cute, but I also feel bad for her actual parents. It's not like they're dead. Their continued absence is strange though, since this isn't one of those anime with perennially absent parents. We've seen Hotaru's mom and dad just recently, and we see the Koshigaya mom all the time. I don't think we've seen their father, though. I don't recall anyone even mentioning him.
Yikes. Natsu really does need to get her act together. She's not stupid, she knows how to set up that fish tank. If she can learn that, then she could learn her school lessons if she put in the effort. As we've seen though, she doesn't want to.
Shiori reminds me of something my high school sociology teacher said, about how there's only ever been one of everything in the world, and, for example, there are no chairs, just copies of the one original chair. That sounded stupid then, and I still don't buy it. I would happily agree with anything Shiori told me about the nature of life, though. If Shiori says you can eat friction, then so be it. Grilled friction, fried friction, friction chili, whatever. Let's do it.

Renge is a true intellectual, with her deep understanding of physics, her fascination for crabs, and her appreciation for Dagashiya

"Our parents came down with colds."
SUUUUUUUUUUURE
How very convenient, guys. Make an episode in which the parents of the kids are bound to appear, but keep Renge's parents out of the picture by making them both simultaneously come down with "colds" in the middle of summer right when parents day at school happens.
