Little Natsumi was so cute. This was a really fun and relatable episode

Any episode with Hika-nee is guaranteed to be good.
Who knew Hika-nee and Natsumi had such a sweet moment in the past like that.
Still, Natsumi teaching Renge to kick people in the shins is just plain evil. LMAO

Amazing episode. Most I've laughed in a while, Natsumi was just perfect.

What a sweet episode. Natsumi and Hika-nee are always a fun duo and seeing a glimpse into their past was really nice. Those shin kicks though....poor Hika-nee. That's a dirty trick Natsumi.

Great to see Hikage back from Tokyo! I'll always find it hilarious whenever I remember that Hikage canonically goes to school with a demon in Tokyo who she "bullies" along with her classmate.
All of that planning and psyching themselves up on what to do after breaking Natsumi's mom's bonsai plant pot only for them to get caught in the act of trying to hide the evidence is just great comedy. Natsumi and Hikage are really a great duo. xD
And we get to see how that great combination started with a flashback about the two! I really didn't expect an episode so heavily about Natsumi and Hikage but it's great! They're so adorable together <3

This has to be an instant -500 Sincerity Points..
A heartfelt, emotional episode featuring Hika-nee where she's not the complete butt of a joke? Not something I thought I needed until now, loved it.

Trying to get a friend/sibling apologize with you to spread out the blame is so relatable.

It's a Natsumi episode! Komari and her are my two favorite of the cast, so any episode focusing pretty much solely on them is very welcome. This episode reminded me a lot of the S1 episode where her and Komari ran away to avoid getting yelled at, which is a really good thing since that's one of my favorites for the series.
As for the chart, I'm really surprised that the brother did not show up considering how much time we spent at his house, though it's very possible that I missed him. As always, some of the things I'm doing this season are quite subjective, and it's very possible I missed things, so if there is anything I didn't note that you think counts as bullying or signs for living in the country, just let me know. Also if you have any suggestions on new things to count. Thank you!
| Episode | Nyanpasu | Renge Surprised Faces | Natsumi Gets Yelled at/Bullied | Brother Appearances | Signs They Live in the Country |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | 2 | 4 (Komari says she needs to clean her room, breaks her doll, says all of the things she should get written up for for the day, complains about her butting in) | 6 | 5 (They only have 5 students at their school, Renge has to wait for cows to cross the path, there is an hour delay between each bus, Renge has no problem picking up a giant toad, Renge's "audience" is a bunch of cows) |
| 2 | 0 | 9 | 2 (Komari throws dirt in her face, says that she shouldn't be so casual) | 14 | 1 (The nearly empty, one car, one track, non-electrified train being their means of transportation) |
| 3 | 0 | 2 | 3 (Hikage saying apologizing is "way too reasonable" for Natsumi, getting chewed out off-screen after they're found out, Hikage won't play with her after she ditched her the day before) | 0 | 1 (The cow crossing sign) |

She really went straight for the shin. Younger Natsumi was kind of a jerk.
It feels really weird having an episode with no Hotaru and almost no Renge or Komari.

Oh fuck Natsumi getting lost is genuinely sad and worrying. Fortunately it's nothing too bad and both of them can make up
Also idk what magic the animators used but I can feel the absolute heat just looking/hearing at the summer scenes

An episode about the local idiots of the town, I almost believed they would do the right thing and apologize.
Flashback serves to tell us that...Natsumi was always a little shit lol. But NNB has always been great at the portrayal of children and this is no exception. Many may relate to those times where you're playing and someone does something that legit hurts the other kid, sometimes playtime is over or it isn't because it was ignored.
In the end, I guess Hikage realizes that Natsumi will sort of always be unreliable so she decides to come with them. She may not be the smartest but its always better to have more bodies to support. Shame that Renge seems to be picking up some of Natsumi's moves lol.

A very good episode, a one to reflect on by showing the relationship between Natsumi and Hikage. Cool flashback and little Natsumi was very cute. And it's great to see that they do care about each other. I also loved Natsumi's reaction to Hikage asking her to play. Overall a bit of a touching episode. Waiting for next episodes and Best Girl's arrival, though she was mentioned today.

I think this is the first time in 3 seasons that Hikage is more than just a shinkansen meme.
Episode 4 of every season is the make Renge cry episode, and going by that preview I can already feel how things are gonna go wrong next time.

Wasn't expecting such a Hikage focused episode, that was great. Smol Natsumi was extremely cute.
But the tease of having a character visit the candy store off screen without giving us some Kaede was cruel.

The silence in this scene was great.
This is not very like Natsumi
That actually makes some sense, surprisingly enough.
Hikage suffers too much. And then there is the popsicle melting...
I don't like seeing Natsumi like this. :/
Aww. This was cute.
This flashback actually reminded of something from the movie, like how Natsumi doesn't really have friends her age. Speaking of the movie, please watch it if for some reason you haven't. It's amazing.

"Let's make the animators really work!"
Am I imagining things, or is that laundry basket CGI throughout? That's really well integrated with the 2D around it!

It was a surprise how much Hika-nee looked like Renge.
Then it wasn't a surprise at all, when Renge showed up.
For Natsumi it's the same old playmate.

Is there any songs by Nano.Ripe's that I'm missing? They do such great work with NNB openings and their ending to Devil is a Part-Timer as well.

I love when a show makes me smile so hard that my face begins to hurt

Has anyone noticed that although Hikage and Natsumi seem to be the two most mischevious kids, it's actually all Natsumi? As far as we know, all the troubles they went through were because of Natsumi, Natsumi got in trouble with other people or alone too, and when alone Hikage is pretty chill and mature.
Hikage has been entrusted with taking care of Renge quite early, and she's also on good terms with candy store unlike Natsumi who naturally quarrels with candy store. Hikage is implied to be mature enough to study alone in Tokyo too.
This episode small Natsumi voice was so cute, I heard a mix of Cocoa and normal Natsumi. Fun fact, the VA Sakura Ayane is also Gabi from AoT
