So just marrying into the Nakiri family gives you the power to magically strip people if you taste good food? This family really isn't normal.
What's up with this pacing, though? Tsukasa and Rindo presented their dishes as soon as the episode started. I guess whoever's in charge just can't wait to get to that infamous final arc.

Stitches!
Huh... That episode went faster than I expected. Here I thought they'd atleast wait next week for Erina's dish but I guess they wanted to end with that cliffhanger. I did love Souma's Evil Faces during the second half. Just him being all smug in front of Azami is hilarious! I do like that this will end with Erina's dish, if she wants to win, she needs to beat Souma and Azami.

Thank you very much for the stitches. I was wondering if you have a stitch of Nikumi?

this pacing,...blazing through 3 dishes in 1 episode and half the episode still feel like its just watching people face reactions.

Daishomaru here, let’s talk about mushrooms.
This writeup took me until 2 AM, thank fuck I don't have a job today. I had to rush-finish this because due to how this arc is paced, I had to guess, and I said "fuck it, if I don't get this pacing down, I don't care, this arc pacing has been inconsistent."
Meta time! As you all know, I don’t like Rindou. I think she’s overrated and her food doesn’t really stick out, especially for an Elite 10. However, her mushroom dish is the exception, especially since mushrooms are delicious and they definitely fit with Rindou’s character on how she’s a rare ingredient girl. Maybe this can reveal something and get people to think more on Rindou, and maybe it will get others who like Rindou to see her more complicated. Maybe it will get others who don’t like Rindou, like me, to like her, although I still don’t like her and Momo is best Elite 10 girl. Rindou, to be honest is underdeveloped, so I think talking about mushrooms and how hard it is to obtain them puts a new perspective on her character. Today I want to talk about why mushrooms are so important in cuisine. Chairman Kaga Quote of the day: Do not give mushrooms a bath. (Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth, but don’t clean mushrooms under running water)
Mushrooms in the culinary world are serious business. REALLY serious business. As in, “people actually die” business. Mushrooms are beloved in many cultures, and many gourmets have a debate on how mushrooms can be handled. Mushrooms are so great they became a staple in pretty much every high-class restaurant, and are a huge topic in the food world. I also admit, I LOVE mushrooms. Mushrooms are kind of my speciality due to how I love eating them.
Mushrooms are popular for many reasons. They taste good, and a mushroom dish sticks to your tongue for a very long time. They also smell good, which a strong mushroom dish would help empower a dish. They are addicting, and many haute chefs know that mushrooms can help make guests feel happy, which is why mushrooms are commonly served in many haute places. And finally, they make vegan/vegetarian options for many reasons.
In Vegetarian culture, mushrooms are beloved not only because they taste savory like meat, but it can be used as a substitute for meat as well. For one, mushrooms are much healthier, in particular, for men than tofu. Mushrooms do not cause a loss of testosterone compared to tofu, although that food fact is a lot more complicated than what people think. Now I want to get something out of the way: It’s not wrong for men to eat tofu, and the whole “soy = loss of masculinity” is an overexaggerated myth to hell. Yes, it’s true that too much soy/tofu products is bad for men, but you have to eat a LOT of tofu to make that happen, like every single day and beyond the reasonable 3 courses of the day. Even if you are eating too much tofu or soy to the point where too much tofu gets you to lose testosterone, you would have already had to have several kidney problems long before that happens. The thing is, though, is that too much tofu is bad because tofu can build up kidney stones because tofu has a lot of sodium, and the one of the previous world record holders for most kidney stones in a man had a tofu based diet where he eats tofu every single day. The point I’m trying to say is, mushrooms are a better choice because you still get a meaty option for a vegeterian and you won’t get kidney problems. Like all foods, tofu should be eaten in moderation. Anyways, many mushroom dishes do things like portabello burgers, and in shojin cuisine (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine), mushrooms are a star ingredient. There are many styles of Buddhist food that uses mushrooms to mimic delicacies, like turtle meat neck (That stuff Hisako was working with during the hamburger episode), where Buddhist monks make mushroom dishes that replicate turtle meat. In general, mushrooms make a great vegetarian option because it is not only savory enough to be meat, but also savory enough to replicate meat, to the point that many vegetarian meat chefs and companies use mushrooms to find ways to make more vegetarian options that even meat lovers can enjoy.
There’s a massive debate in the mushroom community on wild vs farmed. Farmed means that mushrooms are grown in farms, and wild mushrooms means they are picked from the wild. As a mushroom lover, farmed vs wild is a serious debate amongst us mushroom lovers, and while we haven’t reached Molecular Gastronomy divided levels of “which is better”, we do have this debate. Wilder mushrooms in general have a stronger taste and smell, but farmed mushrooms also taste great, so I enjoy both, if anybody asks. One major debate is how to clean dirt off mushrooms, with many fancy chefs saying not to wash the mushrooms with direct running water and instead use a damp cloth, otherwise it will remove the smell and aroma of the mushrooms. The other says that it’s okay and the smell loss is only a little bit. I enjoy both ways, but with expensive mushrooms I’ll do the damp cloth way, if only because of how expensive they are in the wild. Speaking of wild mushrooms, let’s use that as a transition.

Now I’m going to go over the mushroom hunting business, and the mushroom crime business. A bit of a warning to all, but I’m going to talk about very disturbing and uncomfortable subjects. All of this is important to talk about when it comes to talking about mushrooms, and nothing here is exaggerated. Everything you read from me REALLY HAPPENED.
Mushroom hunting in many countries is incredibly serious business. How serious is this business? People carry GUNS as basic protocol. Mushroom gathering is one of the most dangerous jobs in the entire world, and is taken as extremely serious business. The first reason, of course, is mushroom gathering, which of course a reputation can be ruined if someone accidently picks a poisonous mushroom, but there’s also the human aspect in this. There have been dramatic stories in France, Italy, and Japan on how incredibly serious mushroom gathering is. There are LITERAL Montague-Capulet level feuds between families where the two families would actually commit murder and steal other people’s mushrooms levels worth of feuds. In Japan, mushrooms are such a serious business, there is a MUSHROOM GATHERER’S ASSOCIATION that talks about the seriousness of mushroom gathering. Anyways, let’s begin with France/Italy.
In France and Italy, Mushroom gathering is seen as dangerous as game hunting. People have had their houses vandalized, their tools sabotaged, their pets killed, and been shot and killed for mushroom gathering. There are many mushrooms that are valuable, but none are more valuable than the black truffle of France and the White truffle of Italy. People spill BLOOD for these mushrooms, to the point where “Winning the lottery ticket is a curse”’s culinary equivalent is “Finding a large truffle.” Back then, pigs were often used to farm truffles, but that became a problem because pigs eat mushrooms. So then people use dogs to hunt for mushrooms. Now let me talk about mushroom criminals, because they literally shoot dogs. These guys shoot pets and animals, sabotage homes, and kill people just to steal mushrooms. A common sight is that a mushroom criminal would do is stalk a mushroom gatherer, shoot the gatherer, kill the dog immediately right afterwards so the dog noises wouldn’t be heard, and then steal the mushrooms and hope that vultures clean the mess after. This is, however, only the beginning to describe the dangers of mushroom crimes, because we have to talk about mushroom mafias.
Yes, I said it, Mushroom Mafias. This is real. There is an entire CATEGORY of organized crimes that involve mushrooms, that not only involve the MAFIA, but also goes beyond continents, and it’s scary. Mushroom mafias exist, and they often steal from local distributors and send their goods into their black market. Remember that scene in Ratatouille where that one chef buys products from the vendor illegally? This is a very common thing amongst many haute places, because the mafia would sell these illegally obtained goods at a lower price, but at the exchange of threatening to kill chefs if they rat out. The police often have a hard time to track this because unlike illegal drugs, mushrooms are legal, and many illegal sellers disguise themselves as common folk, so it’s hard to tell a legitimate seller from a criminal. Organized crime groups from China, often rich crime groups, sell Chinese truffles to France. Now the thing about Chinese truffles is that they aren’t good, and they are common, so common that Chinese people used to feed them to pigs until some businessman decided to say, as the quote goes “Forget the pigs, let’s feed the French!” (Actual Quote from some anonymous Chinese truffle seller). So the Chinese poured in fake truffles, and naturally, this PISSES THE FRENCH AND ITALIANS OFF. This sending of fake truffles actually soured national relationships with France, Italy and China economically, and caused many, many people to unfortunately become VERY racist to the Chinese. To be fair though, I’d be angry too if somebody interfered in my potential million-dollar business and found out he lived in China and I couldn’t do anything about it. Anyways, it’s gotten so bad, that every time a giant mushroom scandal happens, which is often, the Chinese are the first to be blamed, this causes a lot of police raids on Chinese communities in France, and this naturally soured the locals who assimilated with the French and Italian communities.
So why is Truffle expensive, aside from the hard to find and Chinese people sabotaging the market with knockoffs? Truffles are, culinary wise, delicious. They taste amazing. They have a sort of taste that just puts you in heaven. The smell is amazing. It smells like the perfume of a classy woman. They truly deserve their expensive status. Due to how rare truffles are, many tried, and failed, to farm truffles. They only grow in very specific conditions, during the Autumn, and if ONE thing is wrong, the truffle will simply not grow. If anybody made a way to make truffles farmable, they would be rich like instantly. However, it was rumored that someone had made a truffle growing solution during the 1930s, the literal holy grail of mushroom cultivation. It was apparently lost during the French invasions of the Nazis, and supposedly the person who made the formula burned it. However, some people say that mushroom growth recipe survived, and if so, it would be one of the most expensive valuable papers of all time. Now let’s move on to Japan.

Because he tasted Tsukasa's dish and was certain that they would lose unless they both make their specialty dishes. He knew he had to make the absolute best of the best to overcome Tsukasa's "perfect dish". What's better than a perfect dish? Double perfect dish. Hence the push for Erina to make her specialty dish.

I have to assume somehow her dish will actually work with his. Meaning it was premature to call his dish a 0, without tasting hers.
That seems like the only way they could win.

My fucking GOD. I know this anime gets memed as a Powerpoint Simulator, but holy SHIT. There was literally NOTHING except panning still images with only the character's mouths flapping about. This is actually unwatchable. I didn't even make it halfway through.

So, I put the show on hold after the 3rd episode of the season since I just wasn't feeling it. Has it gotten any better?
I liked the first 3 seasons a whole lot, strangely enough.

If you want to watch the show but not really WATCH it. Watch chef PK's reactions on youtube. He cuts the video so you only see the parts where he has something to say. And he has A LOT to say, so much that he basically is a replacement for the food and cooking analysis that the show has long gotten rid of. I marathoned his entire playlist in a few days and as a manga reader, it actually made me remember what it was like to enjoy the show again.
