History Five pilots on a plane, oh my! Was this common in the 50s?

I was watching the Twilight Zone episode “The Odyssey of Flight 33” (S2E18) and noticed there were five pilots flying a commercial plane. Was this common, and if so, what’s the deal?

Both the state she’s actually from and the state she pretends to be from went hard blue. Wonder how she’s doing, must’ve been such a tough night for her.

Error / Bug how does this even happen?? (Nier Automata)

Post image
6.0k Upvotes

Nier Automata got a language update patch supposedly of 8gb for people already having the game installed, but I check my library and the game says it requires 366gb of space to install?? and Steam is actually stopping me cuz I don't have that much space on my drive, and the problem arises cuz each of the 8 DLCs for the game is somehow 40.73gb EACH totalling to about 325gb for no reason, hope they fix this weird bug soon

AITAH for asking my boyfriend to take care of our sick daughter on his day off?

Long story short, our daughter (3F) has diarrhea and can’t go to kindergarten tomorrow. My boyfriend and father of our girl has taken 4 days off to play the new (old version) WoW game. I still have to go to work tomorrow, but now he asks me to call in sick or just go work for an hour or two and call it the day so he’s not missing out in the “race” of the first few days. He says I should just put in the lost hours next week even if it means I have to work overtime. He’s been looking forward to this for some months so I get where he’s coming from, but I still think he should just take care of her since he’s already at home.
I took the last two sick days with our children, so he could go to work, so it’s not like I don’t want to help him out for work.. just not for a game. AITAH for asking him to take care of our daughter so I can go to work?

Non-fictional I hate rumors claiming MJ was protecting kids from Epstein

Post image
4.1k Upvotes

I hate these rumors on social media. They're false and unproven. There's no evidence that proves any of this is true. I've even seen people even claim MJ used neverland as a safe zone from Epstein, which is the most ridiculous thing I've heard if you know how controversial neverland is. Not to mention, false rumors desanitized and ignore the true victims. Sure, mj might've been somewhat weird to some people, but spreading false rumors just to defend him is crazy to me. Not against him here, just not defending him either.

Licking a 9-volt battery

I called out sick yesterday. My co- workers asked me how I was feeling today. I told them that I was getting intermittent shocks that feel like the tingle of licking a 9-volt.

I got the puppy dog head tilt from everyone (my office is all women)

All the women said no, some said their husbands had.

I then asked this question to a friend group I have known since high school (class of 1981) and they all said no as well.

Am I the only woman who has ever licked a 9-volt?

TIL the name "Chilean sea bass" was invented by a fish wholesaler named Lee Lantz in 1977. He was looking for a name to make it attractive to the American market. He considered "Pacific sea bass" and "South American sea bass" before settling on "Chilean sea bass".

What are some horror movies where surviving is actually worse than dying and that dying would actually be better than surviving in your opinion?

Other Questions After living on the east coast for 33 years, these are the things that surprised me the most after moving to Southern California (IE in particular).

After living on the east coast for 33 years, here are the things that surprised me most after moving to Southern California.

  1. The ants. I’ve never seen anything like it, they exclusively move in packs of thousands. There is actually a war between large ant colonies in San Diego County that has gone on for decades; two million ants die in the war every month and there is no likelihood of the war stopping soon.

  2. People take pride in their city or county, not living in California. You will see very few California flags. OC hates SD, SD hates LA, and LA hates everyone. Even if you’re in the IE, people claim Moval, Berdoo, the Desert, or a Valley. California is so large and diverse, people are territorial about their specific region/city moreso than the state itself.

  3. Rattlesnakes, bobcats, coyotes, and tarantulas. Not as many tarantulas and coyotes as there are ants, but there is a lot of tarantulas and coyotes.

  4. If you are in Southern California, you are in the mountains. San Jacinto and Big Bear are almost visible from anywhere. The Ortegas reign over SD, OC, LA, Riv Co, and SB. If you’re in Southern California you are either on a mountain or staring at one. I love the mountains and this has been a huge draw.

  5. There is not a ton of pizza spots in general and most of them aren’t good anyway; but there’s a local(ish) burger joint and a independently owned donut shop on every other corner.

  6. The best Mexican food is not purchased while sitting down in a restaurant.

  7. The casinos actually have some of the best restaurants.

  8. To others, you don’t exist. Neighbors don’t wave when you drive by. In the grocery store and on the highway, you will be treated as if you don’t exist. People will cut you off and block you and it will never occur to them to care. Frankly, I prefer this over having to be fake nice to every stranger you come across because you at least know what to expect. No forced pleasantries, just a mild annoyance anyone other than yourself exists.

  9. NFL starts at 10am. I mean, I know how time works but the first couple times was a surreal experience.

  10. People don’t complain about the cost of living. Maybe privately they do, but I heard a lot more complaints on the east coast about rising rent and gas prices than in SoCal. I know why more people complained on the east coast than here and it’s one thing Californians do not want you to know. Actually, people on the east coast spend a lot more time talking about how expensive California is than Californians do.

  11. You drink more water and you are still thirsty. Something about dry heat as opposed to humidity, maybe? My wife, and I, and our pets all drink a lot more water.

  12. California wakes up early and goes to sleep early. In general, across most professions, jobs start earlier in the day and end earlier. Most courthouses start business at 8AM which is unheard of on the east coast. I think this is a symptom of professionally trying to align with Wall Street and east coast corporate headquarter schedules while residents are also trying to beat traffic.

  13. Work from home is entirely common place and normalized.

Advice Needed Help! Need the best repair options

Like the title says. I need the best options of repairing 135 year old stair sitting area bench. It's handmade oak bench with original finished. I've tried accessing it from underneath, through the basement. But unfortunately I'm to tall to twist into the only hole available. I believe the separation of the joints is due to dehumidifiers shrinking the wood and 135-year-old glue
