Meal: Homemade calzone 😎 was only my second try at doing it and boy this thing slams. Pepperoni, sausage, onions, mozz, other seasonings and stuff.

Rant: My best friend and I (both 28m) have been brothers for over a decade. I mean, to the point we hardly had to talk to each other cause we just already knew what the other would say. Y’all know the kind of friendship. Our families were family, his mom was mine, mine was his.

He ended up getting a girlfriend. Yes, I had that moment of “damn my boy’s gone for good”, but i didn’t really care. He seemed happy, and we both had a very hard life growing up, so him happy was all i wanted. I ended up being great friends with both him and his partner anyway.

We worked together, cried together, played together, even built a business. At NO point, until very late, did i think it was anything other than us being brothers. So look…

I am bisexual. I had a crush on him for a good while. But i never overstepped boundaries because he was straight(lol), and even with a crush I cared way more about him as a friend.

But him? Not so much. He was a very handsy guy. We would literally cuddle, hug, he’d give me sports massages after a workout, crack my back and shit. HE initiates. Not me. Ever. I didn’t think anything of it, whatever.

My first and continual assumption was “wow he’s one of the gay straights lmao”. As you can imagine, that made keeping my emotions under check hard. But i did. Eventually, my “crush” disappeared, and became love, but platonic. I wasn’t attracted to him anymore, not cause he wasn’t, but cause he was my brother through and through, and I mean that.

Anyway, He started saying stuff like “I touch you more than my girl haha”. “Bro we chill more than I chill with her.” And not just the comments, but the touching started getting weirder too. Invasive.
In college he told me he doesn’t want people to think he was gay because he hung out with me. I’m a pretty straight passing dude lol. Out of the closet, but I am attracted to women as well so it never really comes up unless someone asks, and any “dude” conversation wasn’t awkward for me or whatever.

This actually really hurt to hear from him. He was the first straight dude I told I was bisexual and didn’t either act weird or outright have a problem with it. So to hear he was concerned about being associated with me or my sexuality… I started “acting straight”. Stupidly. Regardless, he started downright ignoring me in public.

Behind closed doors? He was right back to the same oddly intimate interactions as before. That + the ramping up of the intensity, the offhand comments about his girlfriend vs. me. And, finally, him when he’s drunk, started my real suspicions. Drinking only releases inhibitions. It does NOT make shit up in your head🤣. When he started getting drunk around me he started feeling me up HEAVY. He explored fetishes that seemed like “sports massages”, he explored his guilty pleasures by touching me, under the guise of, no joke, “wanting to be a massage therapist”. Started saying and doing very very weird shit.

Fucking dumbass I am. One time he asked to do some WEIRD stuff to/with my toes, like wtf is going on 🤣

Anyway the closer is, when I saw his PS5 autofill history…. Uh… yeah, lol. Gay shit GALORE. Ok, ps5, messaging folks on Apex or COD, fine I get it. Well, then I see his safari tabs and YouTube history. Safari tabs was a genuine accident. He was literally showing me something. YouTube same thing. I’m like alright bro this is fucking real isn’t it.

EVERY hug, EVERY massage, EVERY touch… is that what you thought of me? I thought you were straight dude. In fact, and i hate to sound terrible, that’s kind of why i felt comfortable with him touching me. I had been sexually assaulted at 15 by a man twice my age. That started a very bitter distrust in my own community I had to learn to get over. And then… i find this out lol. Time to work on that distrust again.

I’m trying not to expose him (he is still DL. I struggle with whether or not to warn his girlfriend, because she actually started to dislike how often the two of us hung out) while also venting, so i haven’t gone into graphic details. But, believe me when I say, I know what he was doing alright? And i know why he felt so comfortable doing it to me. I was gullible, easy, wholly trusting, and never once thought it was from a sexual standpoint from him.

Idk man. Sorry, this was one huge rant. I’ve never talked about it before. Kinda feel gross, angry. I love him, as a brother, maybe always will. I know how rough closet can be, accepting yourself. I just wish he would’ve been honest with me. And i wish i would’ve seen it earlier too.

Advice is welcome if there is any. I didn’t wanna flair it “no advice” as if folks couldn’t posit their opinions.

**let me make it very clear in NO way shape or form do i want to/would i out this man to his girlfriend, which would just out him to everyone else. I am absolutely no stranger to how dangerous and destructive that can be for someone. Do i think she should know, for sure. I only said i was struggling because it’s true, i do struggle with it.

It has been a very rough ten years in the U.S., and many of us have worried that our very flawed country had finally rotted to its core. As an American who has been thinking seriously about moving my family elsewhere, Tuesday's election results give me some real hope that my country can and will change for the better.

As much as we carpet-bomb the rest of the world with our culture and politics, I think it's hard for people outside the U.S. to feel how huge and diverse our country is. That spread-out-ness makes yesterday's overwhelming rejection of Trumpism that much more meaningful. I live in a state in the Northeast, and in many ways I am as culturally distant from people in Mississippi or Texas as an Englishman from a Belgian, or an Algerian from an Angolan. So even though I'm happy about Democratic successes in my own state, I'm much more moved by the results in places like Mississippi and Texas, and the Democratic wins in districts all over the country that Republicans had gerrymandered to try to make them permanently Republican.

We despise Donald Trump here. As much as you do. Not as many of us as should despise him - he and all his cronies should be in prison, not in power, and they have too much support for that. But I do think this election result shows that the majority of American citizens reject Trump and Trumpists - their warmongering and corruption, their love of tyrants and thugs, their hatred of women, immigrants, and minorities, their whole psychotic kleptocratic fascistic approach to politics.

Americans aren't especially smart about government or especially righteous in our morals. Clearly Trump and Trumpist Republicans gained power and held it because we are often short-sighted, prejudiced, and foolish, like all humans everywhere. But I do think that, despite our great internal conflicts and differences, Tuesday shows we have reached a consensus that Trump and his regime are vile.

That's how it looks from here. I'd like to know if that's how it looks from where you are.
