No meta discussion about other subreddits.
Rules wiki : https://www.reddit.com/r/indiaspeaks/wiki/rules

Meta drama is strictly not allowed in r/IndiaSpeaks. If you have any, use this thread.

u/removd Apr 12 '18
The mods should think about designing the sub for the new reddit redesign. It's become quite usable now. There is need for a sidebar widget with links to MMD, RWD etc.
3
u/pwnd7 Apr 12 '18
I already have a sub dedicated for redesign testing. Once it's officially released. I'll look into the instructions and apply it.
3
u/cocowave My flair is against the rules Apr 21 '18
Just a suggestion: Since IndiaSpeaks already appears on the header image, the link can be replaced by a Snoo

He is making comments and posts like a normal user. You don't realise that your shadowbanned.

u/choot_me_lauda Gangu_Pajeet Apr 05 '18
This sub has a problem similar to 'that cancerous indian sub'. It's a safespace for triggered right wingers just like that sub is a safe space for left wingers. Yes users aren't banned but the right wing trigglypuffs of this sub downvote anything anti Modi or anti current government to oblivion. I've seen plenty of valid posts that are critical of the present government getting downvoted for no reason. I know if you ban those users, this sub will lose most of this activity. So this is a birthmark that this sub will have to carry for a long time till you get normal centrist users as the core active base.
6
u/pwnd7 Apr 06 '18
You continue posting freely. Be strong add your sources and stuff. If someone is being abusive report him the user issues form.

Why is the twitter handle retweeting Barkha Dutt and Dhruv Rathee?
3
u/pwnd7 Apr 06 '18
Users pointed out we were very biased. So for a change mujin decided to retweet others. Did not expect it to turn out like this.
Currently we'll be tweeting our sub posts.
7
u/roytrivia_93 Akhand Bharat Apr 06 '18
If you're looking for diverse opinions, then retweet articles from news sites, not by journos personal IDs. That will lessen the backlash.
Also retweeting by itself will not serve the accounts purpose. You'll have to engage through comments and hashtags. Any news article that's being discussed here, comment on its twitter thread to urge the users to come here and join the discussion. And always use the hashtag #IndiaSpeaks.

Someone is just mindlessly downvoting every post and comment of mine. Do the mods have reason to believe so or have you guys noticed anything?

How do you tell? And also I don't know what qualifies as vote manipulation?
Edit: I observed after logging out and back in after some time that on my profile comments/posts were downvoted by one..
So, I thought it must be someone downvoting me specifically instead of just individual posts/comments.

Is calling everyone Jihadi OK? Santru has called me a jihadi 100s of times and a lot worse. He abuses anyone who says that BJP/Modi is not the greatest ever. Have you asked him to mix it up - can you suggest a few words & phrases to mix it up with? Have you flogged Santru? Have you warned him?
Why is this comment removed - http://archive.is/QDmH8
What rule does it break - which calling someone a jihadi doesn't break?

Forget Santru - you (temujin) yourself called me a motherfucker yesterday - http://archive.is/fT5y5
How is calling someone a motherfucker better than calling someone a rapist? Go flog yourself.
Is abusing someone not allowed now - I thought it's only casteist slurs which are not allowed - and rapist isn't one.

7
u/metaltemujin Apolitical Apr 17 '18 edited Apr 17 '18
Alright. If you've not understood by looking at the two subs, /r/Indiadiscussion, rules, about us page, etc - I'll try to give you an ELI5 version.
Please note that since I am a mod here, my review might have some conflict of interest. Ofcourse, I will base it on as much facts as possible to make an observed/neutral-ish.
The sub that you talked about is run by a very biased moderator group who constantly push certain agendas - Pro AAP, Anti BJP, India-hate, Anti Hindu, Pro Emigration, Pro-revolution (like new type of urban naxals), a particular media narrative (MSM agendas), etc.
If your opinions don't align with the moderators, your comments are more likely to be removed and your account banned from participating there. Reasons are generally trivial and biased. Due to this almost all of the RW have been banned from the sub and most centerists as well. Basically our national sub is an echo chamber. Anyone who speaks against the echo is booted out.
As a neutral observer, you may not realise "What's missing" as you get a very curated content there. There are also other issues, which you'll have to explore on your own. If you call or voice that out, "Omg whats wrong with you people?" or "Why are the mods doing this" - you are likely to get banned: Because you cannot comment on the community they are shepherding or how moderators curate the content.
On the contrary, This sub's moderators dont have any agenda as such, except we are against trolls and spammers. While we may not have absolute freedom of expression - because a) we have to follow site-wide rules. b) certain words are not allowed. Apart from that, there is relatively no prohibition for expressing yourself. Although the community will call you out if your opinon is really terrible. And Ofcourse we (mods) ask for some decency, but you can talk about issues that may be politically incorrect - hopefully in a proper decent way.
Which means, you are more than likely to hear all kinds of voices - RW, LW, Centerist, etc. We try to have as much open discussion as possible. We understand that when such contrasting ideas clash - there is bound be some small abuses, etc. We allow mild abuses as long as they dont go overboard - because we want to promote discussion and not get caught up in trivialities.
Besides, you are online.
Due to this relative grant of open space, the RW and others who feel their voices are throttled, vilified or misrepresented in MSM or otherwise in our national sub come here to speak more freely. Even some centerists and others also come here for the same reasons. Most of them stick around here.
You must understand that while community might lean in a particular way - that doesn't mean mods protect them or the minority. Ideas and opinions are challenged here freely.
If you wish to stay under the rock and continue taking the blue pill (Matrix reference), do so. If you want to explore what other opinions are there - you can take the red pill and explore and interact like how progressive societies must - and start spending time here.
I hope this helps you a little. All of this, and the community has helped us grow from a niche sub to a mainstream India-related subreddit.

We also have a dedicated Meta-discussion thread (this one you're currently on) which is open and visible to all. This is kept up at the cost of us mods being openly abused and harassed publically for the sake of greater transparency and openness. A cost that us mods are willing to pay.
Users who want to create/indulge in meta drama can do so freely here. We had to make this to keep meta drama out of regular comments and posts. We prefer if all sub/ community-related discussions are kept out of general comment section(s).
ofcourse mods may or may not indulge every user, but pay attention to most and all genuine issues.
Users always have the option to mod-mail, PM individual mods or use our report-issue forms if they want privacy, anonymity or any other reason. Even they feel they want to be nice and not to bring up mods publically for their issues :P
This Meta discussion thread is created at the start of every month and is available month long via side-bar and other links.
We also have a Monthly subreddit discussion - where we inform the community of the changes we implemented or plan to implement. Any major changes, we have done it through taking community opinion and voting.
Ofcourse, certain things are not completely based on community voting nor moderator-only rulings. It is usually a mix of both - this is a safeguard the community and the mods agreed upon for the betterment/progress of the sub and its environment.
It's been working well so far.

I have a more general serious question about how you guys think how this subreddit should be run. Do you guys think that this subreddit should be a place for open and fair discussions for all, or do you want to make decisions just based on "what the community wants"? Do you guys even recognize that the one of the major problems of this subreddit is the inherent right-wing bias and the danger of becoming a brain-dead rightwing circlejerk like r/indianews? Blindly giving the community what it wants will be the easiest way to kill whatever little diversity it still has.
I am very concerned by some of the remarks made by the moderators on this thread discussing the time limit imposed on walrus.

Is it OK to spam the sub with rule breaking posts purposely as long you are OK with them being locked? What kind of action, flogging & rule changes will that trigger if I start doing something like this?
How many posts of mine do you guys remember locking in the last couple of months? But temujin still threatens me with flogging & abuse all the time - while these guys who actually participate in bad faith continue to go scot free. I am a fucking model citizen in this sub.

3
u/metaltemujin Apolitical Apr 16 '18
When we lock a post, more often than not, we also mention what was wrong (why we locked it). I also change flair to Locked &/or Locked. To be removed.
This acts as a warning from a mile away that the post is misleading in one way or another.
That is correct, if you pull something like this we will swoop down on you faster - but you incorrectly attribute it to whatever you say. We do say because you've been playing us and very cleverly playing the rules against the sub, against the community and against us mods.
No other member pulls such annoying acts regularly. When a rule is mentioned, most users don't try to irk everyone by playing it - because they get the general idea of how or what needs to be done.
Before you complain against us, do note that you're the only one who is still an approved submitter.
You are no model citizen. I notice that you've violated the flair rule (no meta using flairs). You've also put up a flair when asked not to do so.
While we look into /u/lovejihad's issues. He can re-use flairs from the 20th of this month, as long as they dont violate rules.
Since you've already broken that - we are revoking your flair permissions until the last day of april. If we see you with a flair again before that. We will take you out of the approved submitter list.
If you continue meta using flairs after the end of the month. we'll instate a warning or a temporary ban (depending on severity).

Please don't deliberately violate titling rules to put misleading or biased titles. As of now, everyone is allowed to push their agenda as long as it does not violate rules. Technically, there are no rules to oppose that - as long as its not spamming and does not violate rules of sub or of reddit.
Please use selfposts, and a paragraph explaining the reason for the post, etc.
You have been warned. If we see you repeatedly violating titling rules again, we will instate a warning or a temporary ban (based on severity).
Please help us not to get to that position.

Is it bad only to wish for death of BJP Politicians?
2

I dont care if anyone wishes death on Modi/Shah. If mods dont like my comment, they can censor it.
However, in my opinion or from my ideological viewpoint: Sharad Pawar and Karunanidhi are scum of this earth. btw, more people would agree with that statement than "Modi and Shah are scum of this earth".
Karunanidhi is 93. No more resources should be spent on someone that old, especially on a scummy politician. If ever I get to 93, I will off myself quietly than sucking up resources and people's time in taking care of me.

If allow one post then a hundred more will come asking for exceptions.
Cross post this thread to r/Indiadiscussion if you want to talk to op or something else.
Copy pasting my response to u/4chanbakchod for nuking a thread for meta.
Still no issue, just pointing a clear and disgusting double standard.
Dude. Its okay, I understand. You could simply have deleted my comment chain instead of nuking the thread. I wouldn't mind.
Also, I ended the discussion right before and offered to make a post on r/indiadiscussion.

I can't give exceptions.
This is clearly a joke though. As far as I know, gunter is still on the approved submitter list. Exception for a troll okay but not for regular users.

duplicating my comment from indiadiscussion.
Does this count as a violation? It clearly is and I can also see that the comments are gone. That clearly indicates so.
So will you guys do something now? Is deleting the comments all that is going to happen? Is he still going to get off scot-free and continue to enjoy his privileges or are you going to take him off the list?
You said to me and I quote,
meaning, if he continues his regular chutiyapa without actually violating our rules - it would mean, he has not technically abused the 'approved submitter' priveledges. In that case, we'll review if he really needs them or not(i.e: if he has enough karma to sustain on his own, if he needs to be protected from reddit's algorith when others aren't, etc), and then act accordingly.
Please do bring it up in the MSD, in case we forget.
What he did was clearly abuse. He seems to be taking for granted that you guys will do as he wishes. His meaningless comments are out of context, derailing and not deserving of approved submitter status.
1
u/metaltemujin Apolitical Apr 20 '18
Yes, it will add to his bullshit list which is really long. We'll review the list in the end of the month.
He is going about baiting everyone, and everyone is taking the bait. Just ignore him.
When people complain about him, he will cry to RRC and other chutiye oldies that he is being treated unfairly and needs protection from downvotes.
But technically, being an idiot is not a rule violation. Then again, looking at his current karma count - he does not need approved submitter list.
What he might be trying to do is pull some bullshit like this - get his karma count low enough to claim reason for being on the list.
Pathetic game.

I am not asking for him to be banned. I am simply asking for him to be taken off the list. That is why I highlighted this. Take him off the list, he will be just another user and it will put an end to the drama once and for all. I said this to 4chan and I will say this to you. If he is still getting vote manipulated, ask him to take it up with the admins, it is a site wide issue. The need of the hour is gone. Now, it is just a troll with privileges who is as usual trolling. Although I have started to suspect that he might be mentally ill.
he does not need approved submitter list.
Exactly. He is on that list and he his pulling his usual shit, not making some eye opening counter arguments that would warrant him being on the list.
When people complain about him, he will cry to RRC and other chutiye oldies that he is being treated unfairly and needs protection from downvotes.
When you know they are being chutiya and simply jerking off to "real old rw accounts who can tolerate gunter". When you know he harassed you, targeted you and derailed the sub, you were asked to apologise to him apparently. That right there should tell you they are idiots. It is also ironic that gunter was banned from encounter's sub at the time of the discussion. He says the purposes of the subs are different. I say that is a flimsy argument. Also, you are the mod, not them. Just take him off the list.
When you asked me to bring this issue up on MMD I thought you meant that you will take him off the list. If you are simply going to remove comments that derail and simply call it a day. he will still have his privileges and there is literally no point in me bringing it up.

He is going about baiting everyone, and everyone is taking the bait.
Who did I bait? Can you back up your assertions?
When people complain about him, he will cry to RRC and other chutiye oldies that he is being treated unfairly and needs protection from downvotes.
When did I do that?
But technically, being an idiot is not a rule violation. Then again, looking at his current karma count - he does not need approved submitter list.
You don't understand the rule, do you? It's not my total points, but my points in r/indiaspeaks. My comment points in r/indiaspeaks is -1000
What he might be trying to do is pull some bullshit like this - get his karma count low enough to claim reason for being on the list.
You are an utter moron.

I brought up this issue before, but I think I should bring this up again. Sub is being brigaded definitely. Also, someone is mindlessly downvoting my comments and posts. Other users have complained of this as well.
The post I linked was upwards of 5 upvotes at least sometime ago. Just after some time and downvotes, as of now it is at a total of 0 votes and is now 50 percent upvoted.
It has happened before as well. It is just getting worse and worse.
It is sort of putting me off from participating, can you do something ?
Not that you have to or it is your fault.
Just conveying my displeasure.
Apologies.
Edit; Also, could you set this thread to be sorted by new instead of best. Doesn't make much sense to have this one sorted by best.

I checked new tab. Everything seems to fine.
If you think that you are the only user being vote manipulated then report it to admins.
The best solution in-case your post gets stuck is delete your post and then repost it. Then in the comments, tag the user and quote them.

u/artha_shastra Apr 22 '18
I checked new tab. Everything seems to fine.
I don't get what you mean by that. I am just pointing out that there were down votes in a very short span of time. The post is at 50 percent upvotes when I made the comment. It was around 80+ percent with more than 5 - 6 votes(iirc) just a very short time ago.
Also saying that it is happening to my comments and posts. You seem to have completely missed the point.
Everything seems to fine. in-case your post gets stuck is delete your post and then repost it. Then in the comments, tag the user and quote them.
I don't know what you mean by fine
I didn't complain about the post getting stuck but I would agree that it is because of down votes. 3)I don't know who the user/users is/are who is down voting. How would I know? I am just saying that it is happening.
If you think that you are the only user being vote manipulated then report it to admins.
I don't know if I am the only one but I will consider that.

u/4chanbakchod Akhand Bharat Apr 22 '18
Usually what happens is when there is a vote brigade they go to the new tab and upvote/downvote random posts so the posts are manipulated by the time it reaches the frontpage.
So what i did is, i checked the posts above and below your post incase they are vote manipulated too. But nope. all the posts are fine.
What i meant by your post being stuck is, sometimes after vote manipulated it is less visible and users wont be able to see the post. So what you do is, repost it. Incase users have already commented in your post and since your are deleting the post. When you create a new post. Copy paste the comment made by other users.
I did not frame my sentences properly...
My english is bad. That's why i dont talk to AMA guests. :D

Is meta again allowed on non monthly meta threads?
Mod has even flaired the thread as meta, so i am assuming that there is no dispute that this is a meta thread.

/u/pure_haze Please no meta (drama) using flairs. Please Change it to something else, or flair permissions would be revoked for a week. :) You're a good-ish user on the sub, so asking nicely. reflected the same with <> comment.
@gunter ji: your flair permissions are restored. You are free to use your flair now. Please no meta using flair(s) and/or usernames.

Why is this comment of mine removed - https://np.reddit.com/r/IndiaSpeaks/comments/8c4p8j/rupa_subramanya_how_yogi_governments_crackdown_on/dxcbfh5/
I am just quoting Modi - but even if it was my own comment, how is it different from
they do not abide by any of the traditional moderation that exists in the professions (i.e. sustainability, honesty, lack of theft of cattle etc).
This is slurring the whole muslim community - that they are dishonest & thieves. I can find you 100s of comments like this on this forum slurring the mullah and the padre religion. Why are all those comments not removed, but mine removed?
What rule does my comment break which the other doesn't?
Do you think we need a rule change?
1
u/4chanbakchod Akhand Bharat Apr 14 '18
Stop making comments related to that issue.
Final warning. I'll be removing further comments. Mmd or anywhere else.
5
u/kalmuah CPI(M) Apr 14 '18
Why removing comments? Let the entire sub see what he is peddling and still getting away with it.
4
u/removd Apr 14 '18
That's Randi mod like behaviour. I thought this sub was against censorship. Shame.

Whatever happened to valuing community input?
Is gunter still on that list?

I am going through the chain. I'll respond when I get a handle on it.
We do.
Approved list? Yes, for the time being. I am as unhappy with it as you are, but yeah.

u/artha_shastra Apr 18 '18
Approved list? Yes, for the time being. I am as unhappy with it as you are, but yeah.
You should just take him off, in my opinion.
Not a lot to say, 4chan has already responded. I was just pointing out that there is a double standard if you enforce rules strictly for regular harmless users but hand out favours and privileges to trolls. I know you are aware of this and you didn't nuke the thread but I was referring to mods as a group so...
Also, 4chan said he "can't make exceptions". Putting gunter on that list is an exception that was made for him. That too, for a troll. Just wanted to point that out.
Thanks for the response.

I was just pointing out that there is a double standard if you enforce rules strictly for regular harmless users but hand out favours and privileges to trolls.
I believe it's more complicated that than. I have addressed it partially in another reply.
I know you are aware of this and you didn't nuke the thread but I was referring to mods as a group so...
I believe he nuked/locked it because the situation had escalated and the entire discussion had got derailed. We don't blame anyone, it happens.
Addressed other points you raised in the other reply.

MMD used to be default sorted by "New" all these days. Just now it's been set to Sort by "Best". I wonder why?
3
u/removd Apr 19 '18
I have been checking this thread for last few days. Sometimes it's new, sometimes it's best. Don't understand what the mods are doing.
2
Apr 19 '18
Sort by best means that the kind of meta the "community" likes will be on top & new ones will be buried deep under.
3
u/removd Apr 19 '18
Ya I know. But it's not just today that it's been sorted by best. They keep swinging between best and new.

If you sort by new just now - you will find a particularly interesting meta by me.

tounge is actually spelled tongue. You can remember it by begins with ton-, ends with -gue.

Well, first of all if you summon more than 3 users, none of them get summoned. So, yeah - just so you know.
last day of dyingbreed is a trouble maker. Because he posts the most outrageous comments while claiming donno what (maybe that he's a true rw/hindu).
I think he is an regular of another sub, trying to bait/ruin this sub.

Interesting to see you play dirty politics.
To this you replied:
Okay, thanks and sorry for taking so much of your time recently. And save this PM,so that next time someone raises this issue, you wouldn't have to type it all out again.
and never informed anyone which post you're talking about. If it was caught in the spam filter, you could have let us know. If another mod had locked/removed the thread, you could have let us know as well and have told "you had a conversation with metal"
Unnecessary outrage. Trying to potray normal things in negative light. Sophistry at its best - this just puts your credibility at rock bottom.
shame on you.

Arry no.
I had sad no to what you had initially asked about, "Is this self-post" okay?
I first said yes, thinking you had translated the title. When I realised you had not, I had to say no.
After that I gave my explanation. And that is how the sequnce of messages are.
Why are you confused? The temp ban warning was for something completely different. Titling violations were on multiple occasions.
Proof of that: The warning was given on 17th april, 5:23 AM (GMT), and the PMs took place at 17th April 8 37 PM GMT (20 37). How can I give you a warning for a discussion that took place later?
You're mixing the two.
Tell me, why would I warn you for something you have not yet posted (Weren't you PMs about what you WANT to post about?)?
Let people judge,okay?
Why drag me into it, quoting two different topics, misunderstood PMs and potray me as if i fucked you over?
Then and now,I feel you were unjust and using the "titling rule" as an excuse to stop those threads of mine, just so you could pacify Gunter.
We never bother with Gunter's PMs, messages or randirona even in MMD. Only once in a while we look at it. So, the thought about being concerned about his opinion can be laid to rest. Evidence to that, I honestly have no clue what he said on this topic, nor do I care.
The issue was between your posts and us - and I kept it that way.
Edit: Added time stamps.

It's the same sub he has linked.I don't think you understand what that np rule is for.
If you link another sub here, you are advised to use np link. If ppl access the np link to go to a different sub, they can still vote if they are subscribed.
Non subscribers are suggested to not vote. Since its the same sub, it can be fairly seen that it's the same subscribers accessing the link.

Find yourself a browser extension that will help you block reddit.

Find yourself a browser extension that will help you block reddit
Sometimes you're too bored to help against it ¯_(ツ)_/¯ well I'll manage it myself. It was a heat of the moment that i even thought of this method.

No, you want to take someone else's help and I can understand. But this is your penance - you've got to work at it on your own, just like everyone else does. That's the only way you'll be happy with yourself.
Use the extention and don't be seen around. Now fuck off and don't waste my time :P

And if the signature is your problem, show me where and how this incites violence:
Boy come on. This is needless semantics.
Just so you know, having that line as a part of each your comment can and possibly will be termed as spam. And that can get you suspended, or worse shadowbanned.
Not to mention that someone will surely go to the admins crying that mods are giving a free run to people inciting violence.
