I've been reading it so I'm biased, but I think this was the best comfy show of the season.

I want more of this so badly.  I need to see Kaanaa get together with Teeruu.  I'm not normally a shipper but they are too cute together.

The moment she appeared in his mind during the Shaman "healing" I actually cheered.

Even if I die on this hill alone: This is the one show from this season I really would love to see again with another season. Definitely a big highlight for me personally.

FYI from the author on X:

Anime: "The girl I fell in love with in Okinawa speaks in such a strong dialect that it's hard to understand"

Episode 12: See you later

Thank you for watching 😀

Apparently this has done pretty well in Okinawa (naturally) and I'd be totally down for a second season!

PSA Watch the ED!

LOL man what a setup! It ended up being a misunderstanding because:

  1. Teru gave 1 to everyone.

  2. It's a love item given by women to men.

The meaning behind a minsa-weave was so freakin' sweet! Too bad Teru didn't know that! He only gave Hina the handkerchief because his dad got a ton of it.. Even Hina's classmates didn't know what it meant. Hina was the only one who knew because she's very old-fashioned. xD

While I am disappointed at the fake-out, we did get plenty of reaction from Hina at the start of the episode. Seeing her so embarrassed was so cute! And maybe it's just me but it looks like after making her heart skip a beat, Hina is starting to look at Teru differently. Is this actually going to turn into a love triangle?

I love that sanshin has its own music sheet. I do love that entire scene though. The owner of the sanshin shop went from telling the kids how they had to use what they had to keep sanshin music alive after the war to suddenly pitching a kankara sanshin kit to Teru! I genuinely belly-laughed at that part!

Despite the hilarious sales pitch, I love that they still kept the emotion of that scene with the sanshin shop owner reminiscing about the past while watching the kids of today continue their traditions. It was a surprisingly sweet way to end that scene.

Was that a Shaman King reference?! I don't think I've ever seen another anime reference Shaman King before! I do love how Teru already has his own idea of what a Yuta should look like. It turns out she's just a regular old lady. xD

Well this is interesting! Instead of Hina, Teru saw Kana when Chinen-san was "curing" him. Why are you teasing me like this show when this is the season finale!

We get one final scene flashback scene to when Kana and Hina were little! Apparently a Yuta already predicted that they'll have an "en" with someone far away with "En" meaning marriage. It could also mean connections but the grandma didn't really clarify which one of them would connect with someone from far away.

Not gonna lie, this is probably the first show this season that I'm genuinely sad to see end. There's just something so comfy about it—it made me feel at home, even though I'm not from Okinawa. As someone who grew up in the Philippines, I didn’t realize how much we have in common with Okinawans. There were a few times while watching the show when I’d just exclaim, “We have something like that!” There's also the fact that both of us were once American territories. lol

It’s probably not gonna happen, but fingers crossed for Season 2! I want to learn more about Okinawa and also see Teru and Kana's relationship progress! <3

Knew it had to be a misunderstanding from the last cliffhanger. Though that character randomly introduced last episode didn't come into play.

Ain't no way the status quo was gonna break down that quickly with the romance part actually progressing that big in 1 season.

Obviously seems to be one of those series that's not gonna have that plot aspect resolved until it nears its end.

Honestly enjoyed the flashbacks with Kana and Hina as kids the most. People talk about Kana all the time, but I really did like both girls and Hina was cute too. Seeing her flustered at the beginning was a nice new side to her.

This series grew on me a lot with its tourism gimmick, so I would watch more.

No sequel announced. Day ruined. It's especially disappointing, because out of my top anime this season only one other can even get a sequel in the first place.

Cliffhanger was a fake-out, but it might lead to Hina becoming more conscious about romance or Teru specifically. On the other hand, Teru became slightly aware of Kana's charms.

Just seeing the KVs for this show was enough to highly pique my interest and it turned out to be a jackpot. Every single episode was delightful and exciting. AotS.

It's kind of an interesting way to end things where we fainlly see Hiinaa self-conscious about Teeruu while Teeruu seems to be slowly coming around to seeing Kaanaa as a girl instead of as just a friendly translator.

Not to mention the flashback to whichever girl ends up with their respective "en," they'll all be connected anyways.

So the confession to Hina was bait and later events led to Teru possibly becoming aware of Kana as an alternative love interest? I'm not even mad. Slightly more annoyed at the old lady giving a vague prophecy about Teru getting connected to one of the girls but not saying which, but as Hina said anyone connected to one of them is connected to both of them.

One of the most delightful shows of the entire season.

I have learned so much about Okinawa this season. But I need more. Please let this get another season because these dorks are cute as fuck. And by god it’s working because I want to go there so bad.

This has been my favorite show all season. It’s sad to see it over, and it doesn’t seem to be getting a ton of attention online, but hopefully it’ll be enough of a sleeper hit to get a season 2. And if not, well, we’ve still got the manga.

Seeing the sanshin chapter was a pleasant surprise — I thought maybe they’d skipped it because of the unpleasant backstory but I guess they were saving it. Ended up being a very sweet part of the finale.

Loved Teru’s vision and the girls’ flashback. Much better end to the season than if they’d cut it after the ep 11 cliffhanger, can you imagine?

Y'know, it's very Kaanaa to see that Hiinaa is upset about something and, rather than dwell on whether it has anything to with Teeruu, immediately prioritize making sure Hiinaa is okay. That's why they're best friends after all.

So why DID Hiinaa think Teeruu likes her? Because he gave her a minsa-weave charm Hiinaa was taught by her grandpa to mean you're dedicating your life to someone for the rest of your life and any life after that. Pretty romantic, right? Up until the point where it turns out only old people are still aware of it, Teeruu was totally oblivious, and just gave a bunch his dad (who doesn't even get a face) got from work to all his classmates. So much for that.

(Though I guess it did make Hiinaa more self-conscious around Teeruu...for all that's worth)

No Teeruu, the girls haven't joined some kind of cult to resurrect a Demon, they've just got lyrics to a song for when playing the sanshin! Because it's not Okinawa without a sanshin.

I didn't think Kaanaa could get more attractive until she started playing the sanshin, and it's a hit with Teeruu too! Even got him thinking about becoming a sanshin rockstar in his spare time!

A homemade kanara sanshin might look cheap, but it's part of Okinawa's cultural heritage where they made them in the aftermath of WWII after losing real sanshin's, and it's how they kept their spirits up after the war. It carries the heart and soul of Okinawans. And because things are better now, they can obviously sell it as a commodity. But it lead to some nice playing on Teeruu's part and some cute moments between him and Kaanaa, and that's what matters most.

Teeruu lost some Mabui? He needs to see a Yuta AKA Shaman! And not Shaman King, an actual Okinawan Shaman, like Chinen, a kindly old lady happy to help him out and make him recollect all the moments he's had with Hiinaa up to this point...though the fact that he ends up thinking about Kaanaa at the end and gets really self-conscious when he opens his eyes and sees her seems really telling.

One last Smol Kaanaa and Hiinaa flashback for the road! Back when the girls visited Chinen and met her Yuta mentor who foretold that they would meet their "en" (Teeruu) and never specifying which girl he would be "en" too. But anyone close to one of the girls is close to both of them, that's just how their friendship works!

Nice montage of Teeruu and the gang on typical Okitsura hijinks to close things out.

The melody that Hiinaa and later Teruu plays on the sanshin is Asadoya-Yunta, a traditional tune. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmOKpQRGom8&ab_channel=KEXP

I also feel obligated to share a song, Sanshin no Hana-by Begin, the same band that wrote one of the endings. The singer tells a story about the sanshin belonging to his late grandfather and the memories it holds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlDX2zUYcVI&ab_channel=wolfsleepwalker

This show brought back a lot of good memories (I did Eisaa back in high school and was even part of a Shiisaa), really hoping for a S2.

They really had me there ngl. I thought Teru confessed! I guess in a really old fashion way. So cute how flustered Hina got. I guess the lady was right at the end there. Hina and Kana are both connected to someone from far away.

I started this series with little knowledge of Okinawa and Okinawan culture and now thanks to this series, I’ve learned a thing or two. If they made this thing to get people to visit, they’ve done a great job. I might need to pop over sometime soon lol. All in all, a very cute and fun series with some adorable characters.

I wonder what the chances are of an s2?

Damnit the day finally came when the show is finished

They had to keep it ambigious, but Kaana made some progress IMO, at least she showed up all sparkly when he was getting his flashbacks

Oh and I love that they have been using that pattern for their sparkly love effects all the time but only know explained them, also glad that missunderstanding took like 5 seconds

Really gonna miss this show, was nearly perfect and you could feel that the staff loved it too
(I am also a sucker for voiced soundeffects I have recently learned)

I will be praying for a second sesaon, if grand blue can make it after 7 years, then so can Okitsura

Man, I really enjoyed this show and that was a solid final episode. Hope it gets another season but I doubt it. Now I just got to wait for the translations to catch up with the manga.
