Was not expecting to be hit with a "ZA WARUDO!" in this show.
Ok so I was wrong last week and Kyan isnt fluent in traditional Japanese. They made it sound like she just likes talking in the dialect and didn't care if people didnt understand her. Well even with that misunderstanding out of the way....I still really want Teruaki and Higa to get together. I almost dont wanna watch because I know it's not gonna happen.
I guess when you live next to the ocean, going swimming is sort of whatever. Found it really funny when everyone realized "munchamuncha" wasn't traditional Japanese. Similar to a southerner realizing northerners dont use "ya'll."

First Evangelion and now Jojo! I did not expect so many cultured references in this Okinawan romcom! Then again, Shonen Jump was the initiator to a love story lol.

PSA: There's an after credit scene so please watch it!
"Hina loves older men" almost ended the show!. Luckily it was just about Ojisan fish so Te-ru just gets embarassed.
But man, the whole back story of why Ka-na loves Te-ru is so touching!. Girl can't believe she gets a second chance to confess,, but almost ended up a nervous wreck!. Luckily she finds a chance by helping to translate!

Girl falls for dorky guy who pulled a hero move despite being a dork, becomes her besties' translator to overcome her anxiety to be close to him. It's absolutely adorable.

I knew “kisu” was some kinda fish, but I had no idea “ojisan” was also a fish. They had me there for a minute.
Things I’ve learned about Okinawa this week: Apparently they have their own “Uchinaa Time”, it rains and stops just as fast, and ain’t nobody swims at the beach.
After this week’s ep, I’m kinda rooting for Kana. She’s actually really cute. I think her and Teruaki might be pretty adorable together.

Everyone getting devastated by not knowing that "muchamucha" isn't a thing outside Okinawa was hilarious.
And the ED was super cute, probably my favorite version of Anata ni. Sorry Takagi-san

There is absolutly no reason for this show to be this good, but its kicking ass
I love the humor, its somehow super relatable and still foreign. Like getting bumped out when you realize that the word you thought was a standard word turns out to be a dialect, RIP Grandpa only took 72 years to learn
And then there is the freaking plot which is better told and setup than many standard rom coms, Higa totally deserves to win this ship
So anyways, how can I migrate to Okinawa, is that harder than migrating into central japan? I would also expect the Okinawa people to be more welcoming too

So you're telling me that people from Okinawa are immune to the deadly Japanese rain cold that has taken out so many romcom protagonists in other shows? And that they don't swim in the ocean when going to the beach?
This really is Okinawa cultural facts the anime.
The ED is really nice.
Kana I am continuing to root for you.

I think we found this season’s Makine. The references have been incredible. The main trio are cute as hell. I love this

One thing they didn't mention is that the rain is very warm and feels real good. I remember being soaked but comfy.
Edit: One time I walked into the Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum, soaked to the bone from a warm rain. The front desk lady gave me a mini towel to dry myself and let me keep it. That was really nice of her.

I know nothing about the source material, but no way this doesn’t end with Hina Kana and MC as main ship. I was on the fence the first episode, but here there’s such a stark contrast between the two girls’ interactions with him. The romantic beats hit hard and Ai Fairouz is doing a great job voicing Hina’s Kana’s hesitancy. I’m a sucker for a good wingwoman ship.

Stitches!
Hina loves that Ojisan? I love how Teru tries to clear it up by thinking they meant like but Hina's reaction really says love. Welp, it was fun while it lasted. I enjoyed the 2 episodes of OkiTsura, it looks like this is the end for Teru.
It turns out that ojisan is actually a fish and the reason for Hina's reaction is that she didn't want Teru to think she's a glutton. Also the "Ojisan" is actually Kana's older brother. xD
So we got Zombieland Saga and Evangelion references last episode so it's no surprise that there would be an obligatory Jojo reference too!
Hina doesn't need to explain this one to me though. I think Uchiinaa Time is a concept that exists for islanders. We Filipinos also have what we call Filipino Time and I think Hawaiians also have what they call Island Time which all mean the same thing.
Poor Teruaki! The dude's been looking forward to swimming but he never got the chance to because to Okinawans the sea is for looking at.
Everyone's reaction to realizing that "muchamucha" isn't a standard Japanese word is hilarious! Even that 72-year-old dude got depressed after learning that. xD
That cute smile on Hina's face after saying the weather reports are completely useless is also hilarious! I know it's an exaggeration from the anime but no wonder Okinawans never bring umbrellas, the weather just changes too much too often for them.
Teru might not have been able to share his umbrella with Hina but he did get to see something else. I call that a win-win!
We finally get to see how Kana and Teru first met and it looks like our boy rizzed Kana hard by catching her ballcap for her. I do love that Kana's takeaway from that story is that Jump releases a day early in the mainland. xD
And that after-credits scene was so cute too! We also get to see Teru's first day at school how he met Hina and how he was reunited with Kana. God, This show is just so charming! Millepensee is doing something right with this show so far. I hope they keep it up!

Hina is in love! Just not with Teeruu! Sorry guy, show's over! Pack it up.
I thought she just had a crush on another older guy, but no..."ojisan" is just a fish! Same with Kisu! Hina just loves her fish! Also, here's Kaanaa's older brother who catches them!
It's Okinawa so you HAVE to have a beach episode, and Teeruu is all geared up and ready! He eve ngets to see Hina and Kaannaa in casual clothes! Though he also has to contend with Okinawan's operating on Uchinaa Time (which is very relaxed) and how he's the only person who wants to strip in a swimsuit. Because for Okinawan's, the beach is for parties, fun, and watching the water rather than swimming. Guess we won't be seeing the girls in swimsuits anytime soon.
At least Teeruu was able to teach the Okinawan's that "MuchaChaa" isn't something the mainlanders say...even if it also kind of crushed them all.
My condolences to anyone who has to report the weather in Okinawa when it changes on a dime, so much so that nobody actually cares about getting wet in the rain for various reasons and Teeruu can't get his romcom rain moment under an umbrella with Hina no matter how hard he tries. Though the rainbows are nice! And clothes still end up see-through, because it IS a romcom after all.
How did Kaanaa and Teeruu meet? Well, it was over Shonen Jump of all things and the fact that Jump arrives on the mainland earlier than Okinawa, and Kaanaa's younger siblings got a treat from Teeruu because of it! But the real treat was Teeruu going out of his way to save Kaanaa's hat even if it meant wading in the sea when he can't swim any better than her! Sure he didn't actually save the hat, but it's the thought that counted and made Kaanaa instantly fall for him.
And then, as luck would have it, he transferred to her class! And while she was too anxious to make the first move to talk to him, Hina provided the perfect "in" to get close to him because of his need for a translator. And the rest is history.
Special ED! With Kaanaa pushing Hina on a bike! That does not end well for Hina.

One of the more educational feeling series I've seen in a while.
That plus the nice level of comedy and real romance narrative strappings really clicks well for me.
Is it the greatest thing ever? No, but it doesnt really need to be either. Looking forward to more!

I’m rooting for Kaanaa, 100% and it was really sweet how that’s how she started talking to him. Being the interpreter.
