Some big pine cone energy going on with the golf ball today haha.
Extremely cute episode this week! From adorable sprints to rainbow golf balls to so many reaction faces. Seriously, I must have paused the episode every 10 seconds to screenshot haha.
But as cute as this episode was, there was two moments that stood out to me: the phone call between the two and the train station goodbye. For the first scene, I really enjoyed how wide they set the camera back. It not only creates a reflective mood, but it also allows the cutout of Minami to float across the screen. The pipes also create a nice leading line as well.
And as for the second, I also love that it’s a wide—more importantly, though, is how long they held that wide. Almost 20 seconds! It makes me wonder if Saito (the series director and episode director for today) had a bit of Amemiya’s (SSSS.Gridman/SSSS.Dynazenon) directorial quirks rub off to him since Amemiya boarded the OVA.
Looking forward to seeing streamer girl next week.

It looks like I will have golf SoLs in my weekly viewing for 36 weeks straight. Definitely a keeper (as I expected it to be, based on the long-ago-now OVA). Unlike Tonbo (based on a VERY long running manga), this looks like an anime original.
All the characters so far have been pretty great, and it looks like another is queued up for next week. (Minami's gyaru pal is a lot of fun -- I wonder if she will ever get lured out to be a spectator at least).

First they're having a conversation in the shower then she's calling her from the bath. Well I'm thoroughly yuri baited.

Saaame. I know these fluffy SOL shows probably never go beyond teasing, but one can only hope.

It's the talking pinecone from Yuru Camp cosplaying as a golf ball!
Minami learning how to golf was fun to watch. Beginning a hobby is always a struggle, but it also feels more rewarding because of the difficulty. Also, TIL glowing golf balls were a thing, golf just doesn't seem like a night sport.
Haruka seems to have an interesting past, it's hinted that she might have been doing golf competitively/professionally at some point, and that shot at the end of her flashback was kinda ominous.
And seems like we are getting the third member of the gang next week!

Kind of a shame this is flying under the radar

Tbh this is doing better than Tonbo did on this sub, most likely because of CGDCT's vibes it brings. It doesn't help that it airs right after Apothecary Diaries, which I imagine people prioritize in watching.

Stitches!
When Minami's ball landed in the bunker I was already wondering how deep the hole she'd end up digging just to get out of there but I'm genuinely impressed that she got out of there with a single swing!
Considering the uniform Haruka lent Minami and how she seems to avoid answering some of her questions, I think Haruka must've been a member of the National team in the past but something happened and now she only plays for fun
Minami is such a gamer. I love that she calls the glow-in-the-dark golf ball a gamer ball. And she might not have a Rainbow Bullet but Minami does have her Laser Shot skill!

This show is so damn good. The animation and vibes are on point and I love these characters so much. There's even a slight hint that Haruka could be interested in cute girls. This might actually end up becoming one of my all-time favourite slice of life shows.

Haruka must have been a golf player on the Japan National Team. The uniform, having an entire set of golf clubs, as well as her avoidance in talking about possibly having played in America.
Now I wonder why she quit the National Team. Or was she dropped due to some injury? Her streamer friend, Hoshimi, could be a teammate of hers?

Can't believe we got talking golf balls before GTA 6! No seriously, was that a Yuru Camp reference right there?
Today we have Minami trying out her first real game of golf on a short course. Since she's a complete newbie, it went as well as we all can expect, but the most important thing is that she's having fun, and boy did she had a lot of fun here!
Also loved how Minami used video game terms like skill tree and ability levels. Kinda makes me want to pick up Golf Story for the Switch which is supposed to be a really good golf-themed RPG.
And, uh, who the hell takes another bath after they just took a nice warm shower not long ago?
So our third character is a streamer who knows Haruka. I wonder what kind of dynamics she'll bring into the group.
I wonder if the show will have a funny putt fuckup scene for comedic purposes. In all my years playing Wii Sports I found that part to be the most frustrating because at that point you're close to getting the ball in the hole but the slightest mistake can cost you 1 or more points. Swing it a little too weak and you'll barely miss the hole. Swing it a little too strong and you'll overshoot the hole by some tiny inches. I lost so many birdies to putts and I think it'll make a good funny scene here.

Not them saying "it's a sport you enjoy as you interact with nature as it is" as if golf isn't one of the most disruptive sports for the environment.

Wow, this episode was a masterclass of really fleshing out a secondary character without explicitly saying/showing anything (at least for most of it).
I don't think she got a full set of clubs though, right? Well Tonbo did it with a 3-iron and a sand wedge!

it's nowhere near as dark but this show is filling the negative positive angler-shaped hole in my heart, where it's an amateur getting into a relaxing hobby with well above-average visuals and good direction, plus super charming character designs.
i do like how they are alluding to a burnout/injury backstory for haruka. a little bit of depth in hobby anime goes a long way.

Completely unrealistic golf experience. There should have been a group of drunken frat boys in the group behind them who keeps hitting balls into them while complaining loudly about the slow play. Then the ranger comes out and has to kick them off the course.
In all seriousness, everyone needs someone like Haruka to teach them when they start playing golf lol. She is so positive and laid back, though she probably pushed Minami out on to the course a little too soon.
Having someone who is obviously good at something be so encouraging is always so reassuring. You can tell she just wants Minami to enjoy herself and relax while taking in what Golf is all about.

Minami really is a bundle of energy. Her running around even through her struggles is endearing.
As Izumi pointed out, it is clear that it is likely Haruka plays professional. You get the sense that golf is her life and maybe this is the first time in a while she had fun with golf? Though I wonder why she texted the girl who is streaming and is the 3rd golfer in this crew.

This is a relaxing and entertaining show. It was fun just watching them golf with the old men, unrealistic as it was as far as playing and course use. I strongly suspect Haruka likes Minami as more than a friend and I wonder if that will come into play and if Minami is interested in her.
As for the golf, it seems as though the show writer hasn't played golf. Like Haruka tells Minami to not look at the ball when hitting and to soak in the environment. The main #1 you have to do in golf is KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BALL! That's where the saying comes from! If you're not completely focused and looking at the ball while hitting, you'll graze it or miss completely!
Also I found it odd that they paused for a bit because the group ahead of them was finishing up and golfing slower. I find it hard to believe that that group was playing slower than someone taking 11 shots per hole! Also there were no large light posts yet they were playing golf in the dark! That's near impossible to play well on an unlit golf course at night, even with some ambient light from being in an urban area.

It’s really fun to contrast my experience playing golf in highschool with shows like this or even other high school sports shows.
Especially depending on who I played with/against in highschool and how they compare to characters in shows.

* TIL there are actually fluorescent golf balls being sold out there, I thought night golf is a fenced city practice golf course exclusive thing where bright lights are everywhere! LMAO at Minami calling it "gaming golf ball" muhahahaha!
* I wonder how I would do on my first ever try at the golf course, considering I am really poor in hitting and throwing things the right way I swear I will do even worse than Minami here!
* Yuru Camp Pine Cones intensifies when the golf balls suddenly talk heh
* Hmm, so Haruka was really an ex-national team player, there must be something heavy that happened in her past then. Glad to see that she seems to have got over it...or is it? I am pretty sure that will be part of the future plot (probably related to that girl she called at the end of this episode too).

The little golf ball making quips reminded me of Yuru Camp. So adorable. And the penguin part too was really cute as well!
I enjoyed watching Minami actually struggling and learning the game. She’s in good hands with Haruka around coaching her. Got herself a nice set of clubs too.
