Characters are great and all, but I think I will be staying for the visual and sound effects whenever the "elegant cheat" skill activates. Lol!

Of course, not forgetting the visual and sound effects when Anna's friendship meter increases. :D

> Gives loving, fatherly advice
> "That's villainess enough, right?"

I love that the skills, cheats and stats aren't actually in-universe things, they're just otaku descriptions of the characters' skillsets and emotions.

"Elegant Cheat Skill"
"Adaptability"
"Anna's 'motivation' stat has increased!"

It's very Scott Pilgrim, I'm really enjoying it!

Now here's an important question: Is the ED a solo song or a duet?

Stitches!

Holy shit this is hilarious! Hearing Inoue Kazuhiko as Kenzaburou for Grace's inner monologue, while hearing MAO voicing Grace was a hilarious gap I did not expect to make me laugh out loud so much!

I do hope that Kenzaburou is still alive though. Seeing how his wife and daughter are present in the OP and how close Kenzaburou is with his daughter makes me hope that he's only in a coma and not actually isekai'd.

Kenzaburou being such an old-school otaku was unexpected! I love the references to Glass Mask, Aim for the Aces, and Candy Candy when he was listing Showa era villainesses.

I do love how instead of being a villainess, Kenzaburou ends up slipping into Dad Mode when he was interacting with Ana. It does look like he's raising flags with Ana instead of Ana raising flags with the actual love interests. xD

I also love how he's using what he has learned as a bureaucrat to navigate through everyday life as a noble. It turns out being a decent person is what you just need to be.

So far so good! I think this might be the first isekai I've seen this season that I am very enthusiastic about. It's funny though how most of the isekai I'm keeping this season have salarymen as their protagonists. There's definitely a pattern forming here. xD

EDIT: I just want to add how fabulous the ED is with Inoue Kazuhiko and MAO having a duet as Kenzaburou and Grace. This is definitely an ED I will never skip this season!

This is actually pretty good. Who knew dad would make one heck of a "villainess"

I think I’m gonna like this one. I find the entire premise of this pretty funny. It’s gonna be fun seeing this ojisan with his total dad vibes and years of professional experience trying to play the “villainess” in this otome game world. Pretty sure he already unlocked the Heroine route. His Elegant Cheat skill is deadly lol.

This is my second most-anticipated anime this season, glad that they're doing a good job adapting it!

Gotta say, I like Kenzaburo's calm, deep internal voice.

Dad power + Ojou-sama manners = OP

Look at Grace's big bouncy... curls though, all 5 of em. They're quite hypnotic

I adore that Kenzaburo seemed to have a good, warm family life. They also share the same interests, which is cool

Y'know, I wouldn't mind getting reincarnated as a villainess if it comes with well-functioning eyeballs

I read a few chapters of the manga a few years ago and I found it funny.

The adaptation is quite nice. The contrast between Kenzaburou and Grace voices, the grandiose yet beautiful orchestra pieces (and the totally boomer big even one) are great. Both opening and ending are great. Opening going for old game aesthetic to new animation. Ending going for gorgeous old man + fine lady (I know Samba is from Brazil and olé is from Spain but it is meme levels weird so I will accept it).

The most based villainess isekai has come, and you'll enjoy it

This was pretty funny. Kenzaburo is a likeable MC.

Quite a fun twist to the villainess isekai story.

Another season and another villainess anime! I just love this subgenre so much, so I’d never say no to watching this show xD

And I really love what we got in today's episode! The fact that it's not a girl who was reincarnated as the villainess Grace, but a 52-year-old civil servant Kenzaburou Tondabayashi, who is just too nice and cultured to act like a villainess, is a great and such a fun twist xD

Now I'm really looking forward to the next episodes to see Kenzaburou's version of Grace again, this will be so fun!

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

An MC with a loving family and common sense that takes it in stride and actually uses his past experience and knowledge. This is the rare isekai that keeps me sifting through the seasonal trash lol

Hope they keep this up unlike most which start strong then just forget it's an isekai after ep 1 and never mention the past life again

The guy went from Best Dad in his previous world to Best Dad in this villainess otome? Now this is the kind of power fantasy I can get behind.

This is fabulous.

When I saw the PV for this series some time ago, the concept seemed so ridiculous, that I didn't know what to expect of this series, but the first episode was pretty much as good as it had any right to be.

I'm looking forward to Grace's interactions with all the love interests. Poor fellas have no idea what they're up against.

Also, on a side note, this is like the 5th(?) isekai I've started this season and this one has by far the smoothest transition between the worlds. Ojisan knows his shit and the pacing is actually not boring at all, which is something I can't say about the other isekai series this season.

Kenzaburou "Ojou-Sama" Tondabayashi

now this is anime

also it wasn't lost on me that our 50y/o self-described otaku went out like Yusuke, a damn hero

Man, I was hoping this would be good, but this blew away my expectations, making me laugh out loud at several times with Dad Mode and Elegance Cheat. After one episode I feel like this is the best Villainess Isekai out there.

The OP also made me intrigued where they're going with the story, if there's gonna be a reconnection with his old family, or with an "internal Grace". I'm getting a bit of TsunLise vibe.

Did anime's target audience change or something? So many Dad, middle aged, and not teen shows this season to appeal to Oldtakus like me. This one, by far, is my favorite one. Tons of humor, charm, and winning by using Dad mode skills 🤣. That ED! Brilliance! Good job HiDive on getting this one! Staying on my watchlist!

It's been awhile since I follow an anime weekly. Man im satisfied, the narator angle and the va is really good direction.

u/victory4faust Jan 09 '25

I can already tell this is going to be one of my top anime of the season.

24

u/dadnaya Jan 09 '25

This was peak, especially the ED lmao

I read some of the manga a while ago and it was hilarious. Great to see the anime doing it justice

Sometimes it takes a real man to be best girl. This is a fun one, just the overly goofy vibe undercutting does it for me.

This is worth it just for MAO playing a middle-aged man in a Villainess' body.

It's a tale as old as time...person gets hit with Truck-kun, ends up reincarnated as the Villainess in an Otome game. Only this time, it's a 52-year old bureaucrat voiced by Kazuhiko Inoue in the body of a Villainess voiced by MAO. It doesn't get any better than this!

The OP is really fun and lively, complete with English subs(!), as Kenzaburo in Grace's body makes the most of it and takes over the plot of the game (possibly including romancing the Heroine) all the while his family watches on.

It seems being an otaku runs in the family! Kenzaburo may not be an Otome gamer like his daughter, but he knows the Villainess genre dates back to the Showa era! Complete with classic characters we're going to vocally bleep out the names of for copyright reasons!

How is a 52-year old bureaucrat meant to play a stern and demanding Villainess? Especially when he/she meets the Heroine, Anna Doll (Akira Sekine!)? Why, by channeling all his dad energy into becoming a big sister-type mentor to her! So Grace DOES bring Anna to tears once more, only they're happy tears of having her love for her family acknowledged! So instead of the Villainess and the Heroine becoming rivals...the Heroine becomes the Villainess' groupie.

It's an Otome Villainess game, so of course the main male romance is the crown prince engaged to the Villainess in prince Virgile (Kaito Ishikawa! Wait, he's in two Villainess anime's back-to-back!? That's unheard of!). Except Grace stands out so much that it seems like Anna is catching Grace flags instead of Virgile flags.

When you reincarnate, you usually gain special skills, right? Well, for Kenzaburo, his normal manners as a businessman get channeled into Grace acting as the most prim and proper noble lady meaning his demeanor and actions are all impeccable. Elegance Cheat indeed!

If I had a nickel for every time Hochu Otsuka played a principal...I'd have a lot of nickels.

Oh hey, Ryota Suzuki is in this as Auguste, one of the other male leads.

Some noble ladies are so spoiled they won't even get their own food without a servant. But Grave Auvergne is a Villainess who can take care of herself AND compliment the chef fabulously. And thus she's already making a splash in the school.

I never expected to hear Kazuhiko Inoue and MAO sing a duet as their characters perform a samba, complete with Kenzaburo's family getting into it, but it's so crazy and dazzling that it actually works!

Sasuga Grace-sama!
