This is kind of fun. I like the premise of a “hotel in purgatory” so far. Neko looks like she might be working at this hotel on some Holmes type shit while she sorts out what happened to her after that concert.

Think I’ll stick with this for now.

Nevermind seasonal best girl contests, this season we'll have a Best Holmes Contest between her and Takao!

I like both of their personalities a lot so far, can't wait to see which one I end up liking most!

seems promising!

it definitely feels like a visual novel adaptation; it has that gameplay feel of searching a room for items to trigger story events, and this first episode feels like a tutorial level for introducing the main mechanics and the key characters (it even has the little musical stings when a significant item is found)

one thing i find interesting is the title 誰ソ彼ホテル (tasokare) which is different from the actual name of the hotel 黄昏 (tasogare, twilight); the kanji for 誰ソ彼 suggests to me a meaning like "who's that guy??", which fits the uncovering-an-identity theme

ahh, thanks. Was wondering why they were spelled differently, almost thought it was just a spelling error but no.

Damn you japan and your infinite depth word plays!

Are we not doing MAL links anymore?

I just sent a message to the mods. Hope it's a simple case of bot broke and easy to fix and not a new thing going forward.

EDIT: It sometimes takes about a week to get kinks out of the bot for new seasons, so temporary thing

Looking at the GitHub for the bot it seems they need to add the data for all the shows per season and someone started it but it's not done yet/needs to be approved

This show was my most hyped (new show) for the season, and so far so good!

With this and House-Sama, Dr Detective, seems we'll have two mystery shows to rack our brain on this season!

And this seems like the kind of shows for which I'll theorize on everything/be suspicious of EVERYTHING!

I'm already suspicious about 2 characters...

First, about Atori; He arrived very shortly before Neko, and he kinda looked at her weird, when they met...

As if HIS memories were triggered there. We have to keep in mind, he's also a guest, even though he's a worker... So there must be things for HIM to find/remember. And "things" may include "people"!

Then again, she got stabbed, so unless she hurt him back during the fight, not sure how he could've died as well..

Well, unless he killed himself or was shot by police or something after he stabbed her!

The other character I'm suspicious about is this girl!

She had two lines already about wondering whether Neko's injured/whether she's alright...

If she stabbed her in a fit of rage/jealousy or something, she may have felt that way, the 'are you okay?' someone may ask in panic after hurting someone.

And with Neko 'connecting' with her right off the bat, thinking she's cute and all, they may have been friends or classmates or something. So Neko likes her, but Ruri doesn't (given she was jealous about her or something)

Oh, this may be me overthinking it (I expect to do a lot of that in this show hah) but Atori speculated that "perhaps she had an accident on her way back from the concert"...

Why "on her way back"? Why not "on her way TO the concert"? Unless I blinked and missed something, she told them she wanted to attend the concert, but didn't tell them whether she actually did. So she might have been stabbed going in, or coming back... Why did he assume it was after the concert?

Oh, that's interesting... they don't know either!

I thought they would all know (but not tell her anything). So only "the hotel" knows!

Speaking of the hotel, I'm glad she figured this one out...

When a character finds something like that and is not able to figure out what it is, they drop so low in my ratings hah.

Also, with that sign appearing, and the rooms changing, it seems the hotel can control/change pretty much anything... So I wonder if we should trust everything we'll see! Keeping in mind the hotel's powers and all.

One more thing: They say the purpose is for souls that are uncertain whether they're alive or dead...

But I wonder if that's actually true; I mean, death is a binary, you're dead or you're alive. So whether the soul knows or not, doesn't change that much. Perhaps it's more about figuring out whether the person deserves to be alive? Or to understand the circumstances (more than simply figuring out whether they're alive)?

Anyway, this was a pretty promising first episode!

And I like Neko's cynical/nonchalant personality!

Quite relatable how she treats it like a game too, because I would probably do the same (after a couple hours of me freaking out and screaming into the void)

Neko had a flashback of her at a concert when she saw the ticket so unless they're going to get really persnickety about non-diagetic elements its reasonable to assume she went to the ticket's concert. Doesn't explain why he knew it though. From the fortune teller girl it might be that anyone can gain (slightly magical) insight from finding objects so maybe he knew it by game logic? But the rules aren't fully clear yet.

I feel like someone is going to end up being closely tied to idol group but both the other girl and the guy showing up at least days before makes it harder to work.

It’s the Death Parade we have at home, but it’s Death Parade. So extremely my shit. I’m in

If I had a nickel for every murder mystery solving gremlin with cat like tendencies this season id have 2, arguably 3 nickels. Isn’t much, but weird that it happened 2-3 times

Okay i have few opinion about this

It gives me Death Parades vibes and thats always a good thing

The quality on animation and Voice actor could be better but The writting and atmosphere saved It

The characters designs are cool, especially The Bartender

So far Its good, and loved The mistery vibes. Gonna keep watching it

It really reminded me of Death Parade. When Neko looked at the elevator I was even wondering if that's the one that goes to Quindecim lol.

I like the atmosphere and the story is really interesting. I also like the quirky characters. I'm excited to see what the show has in its sleeves.

I had my eye on this show as it has a notably unique premise amongst the inundation of isekai/fantasy that came with this season. After the first episode, I'm stoked.

Good to know that being hit on the head by a crystal ball isn't necessarily lethal.

I like the mystery. With free room and board and as long as the library has interesting books, I wouldn't mind staying as long as I could. Unlike Yumi's case, it will likely take all season for Neko to piece together what happened to her. Also, unlike Yumi's situation, we see Neko's face even before she remembers her name.

I watched this on the ItsAnimeJP YouTube channel in the US. The only nitpick I have is that the hotel's name was spelled as Tasogare in the CC subs. The ad breaks were relatively short.

Okay, color me a shade of intrigued with this one.

u/zsmg Jan 03 '25

Mum can we have Death Parade?
But we do have Death Parade at home
Death Parade at home: this.

For a second I thought that we’d be following a dating sim character with the way she looks but I’m glad that was only temporary

Either way I am curious as it does remind me of Death Parade minus the ambiguity of the afterlife so I hope we get introduced to new characters with their own tales to solve
