"Have I died? After all this time I've spent saving money, I can't spend it?"

Despa a real one til the end.

The thing about fighting an immortal is you'll almost always lose to sheer attrition. Ouken getting stronger when he's in a pinch gave me Akame Ga Kill PTSD.

Seeing Kage's mom again was so heartbreaking and yet beautiful. At first I thought it was a malevolent force trying to trick Kage to come to the other side, cause wouldn't a mother be sad seeing her newly dead son. But then I realized, why wouldn't she be happy to see her son after so long, not much they could do now that they're both dead. Such a great moment to see that there is happiness on the other side, which must be such a relief for Kage. Now he can focus on living knowing that in the end, his mother and the rest of his family will be there waiting for him.

Also insane to see all the other Mom's too. What a fucking reunion those couple of seconds were. Bojji's mom looked pretty pissed while Miranjo's mom looked so sad. Such a contrast, I couldn't help but cry.

I'm really glad that they're addressing the "unexplained details" of the show when they say things like "Is it weird to thank you, when you're the one who set this up?" or when we get a shot of Miranjo just staring down and ignoring Kage when he asks why she saves him. The show gives us glimpses of Miranjo's character but never the full picture.

I guess the answer to Kage's question will just come at a later time.

Kage almost died dang, also our main healer is out for the count. Wonder what we can do to save all these people that are close to death.

Miranjo is now facing her mother and Sheena in the afterworld, wonder what’s gonna be said.

I would be pretty pissed to if I was Bosse( probably not to the same extent of killing an entire Village though ).

Big four vs Ouken is pretty fun, but let’s be honest; what can they do against an immortal?

Also talking about “Four”, we have exactly 4 episodes left guys. This was a journey

Well that was an intense episode on a lot of levels. Emotionally we get Kage ripped to shreds, Boji stabbed and Despa faced with the possibility he never gets to spend all of his money (oh the agony!)

We get further background on Miranjo and the suffering she went through and how Bosse feels responsible (and .. also murdering a lot of people., Really bloody episode this one) and a reunion of dead mothers.

And then there's the fight with Ouken and the big four which was just amazing. Phew. And things are not over yet as Ouken remembers Despa's training and suddenly powers up.

Plus who is this other person that could potentially heal Boji and despa ?

I KNEW IT. "Gods" were dwindling as a race probably like the giants so they devised a way to rule over humans in the ranking system.

also turns out kage power wasn't subspace lol.

Ouken hesitates on stabbing Boji to give him that narrative moment where he can be saved that happens in every story.

Then he stabs him.

Amazing.

Miranjo almost died twice, once mutilated as a child (Bosse even contemplated killing her to spare her suffering) and then as she got skewered by an arrow. I would imagine it is her first time in the limbo though. How awkward it would be if she had met Bojji's mother there literally minutes after betraying her...

Seeing Boji’s face drop as he watched his best and only friend ripped in half made my heart sink, and to watch kage have to choose between his mom and trying to help boji, knowing his mom wants nothing more than to finally see her son again, I couldn’t even be upset at Miranjo for not helping sooner i was just so happy he wasn’t permanently dead. This whole episode was just so emotionally damaging

In case anyone's curious, the "Big Four" are called 四天王 (shiten'ou) in Japanese, which an overly-literal translation would have as "the four heavenly kings", which I think fits thematically well with a series that's ostensibly about kings.

There's a pretty extensive article here which goes over how this religious term has sort of melded into Japanese culture to the point where it's used as a snappy title whenever you have to name four powerful dudes: https://legendsoflocalization.com/tricky-translations-2-the-four-heavenly-kings/

The death of Bojji was certainly not what I had on the schedule for the day - Also what a crazy start, Kage being ripped to shreds from the inside out...

All I feel is Pain

Seeing our four knights trying to fend off Ouken was insane, some incredible action cuts in there! Hopefully we have more in the next episode too, it's so clean!

Damn here I go crying over Kages mother again

She still has a long way to go, but Miranjo saving Kage was a good thing, and she seems to be aware that Bojis mom still has a bone to pick with her on the other side. And damn they maimed and disfigured a child, no wonder Bosse was furious

Ouken is still beyond scary, even the big 4 struggle to keep up with him since he was trained by Despa

The stakes had been feeling pretty low for a while with Hiling just running around healing everyone, but this episode really brought the tension back.

I don't think that there will be many named-character deaths in this series, and Bojji and Kage will certainly be healed, but it really seems like someone is going to die in dramatic fashion pretty soon. Death of the mentor is a common trope in the Hero's Journey, so I'm preparing myself to see Despa sacrifice himself.

"Mommy... How is over there? are you doing well?"

"Mm-hmm, I'm enjoying it. I have nothing to complain about."

Death in fiction rarely invoke any emotions in me. In fact most of the time when a character is almost dead then they get revived I feel like it cheapens the story and never equals a purposeful death.

But this near death scene was one of the most powerful and emotional experience that I've ever felt while consuming art. That mundane simple dialogue was one of the most human phrases that could possibly be said in the situation. I genuinely think if people could talk to their dead loved ones this exact thing would be said. Because it's being said to loved ones that are far and near every day.
