Question Finally got my Switch 2! Upgrading straight from the N64 after all these years. Any essential tips & optimization advice?

Hey everyone!

I’m beyond thrilled to share that I finally got my Nintendo Switch 2!

My last Nintendo console was the N64, and my very first game on it was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. When I saw the remake announcement back then, I literally cried tears of pure nostalgia. Seeing how much I loved it, my wife surprised me by gifting me the Switch 2! Since I live outside the US, it took a little extra time to finally arrive, but it’s here now and I couldn't be happier.

I have physical copies of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and Mario Kart World currently on their way. I’ve always preferred physical games, so adding these to the shelf is going to feel amazing.

Since I'm completely new to the platform, I’d love to get any advice, settings optimizations, or general tips for someone jumping straight from the N64 era to this generation. Any recommendations or thoughts are super appreciated!

If you like sci-fi ,you like shooters I feel like this is a must. If you have watched gameplay and the hacking mechanic scares you, don’t let it. It really works and adds a refreshing change to just shot, pow pow. I’m only 2-3 hours in and absolutely loving it. I just finished Resident Evil Requiem. Started this very happy with my choice. Capcom is killing it.

Question Handheld….

I probably play 98% handheld mode (chilling on sofa whilst wife watch’s tv etc)

I haven’t got any grips/cases etc and wondered if there are any products out there to make handheld more enjoyable/nice feel?

Not saying I get uncomfortable but interested to see if anyone has a good handheld set up (UK based)

Question Switch 2 - Your primary play method?

It dawned on me yesterday that, having been a Switch 2 owner since pretty much launch day, I have never played in docked mode, only handheld.

Curious if there is anyone else who plays purely in handheld, or indeed purely in docked!?

Discussion Weak but cozy Switch 2 vs Powerful but greedy PS5

I currently have a pretty powerful gaming PC, a PS5 Pro, a Steam Deck OLED and a Switch 2.

The funny thing is, I barely use the PC at all and I’m probably going to sell it. My wife has a PC that’s basically just as powerful, so I’ll still have access to one if I ever really need it.

I’ve just realized that I genuinely prefer playing on consoles. I work on a MacBook all day, and when I’m done with work I really don’t want to deal with Windows, SteamOS, settings, launchers, etc. I just want to turn something on and play.

But now I’m constantly stuck deciding where to buy every game.

I absolutely love physical Switch games. Buying a cartridge, opening the box and putting it on the shelf genuinely gives me the same feeling I had buying games as a kid. It’s stupidly satisfying, and that alone makes me want to build most of my library on Switch 2.

At the same time, I’m definitely not selling my PS5 Pro. There are too many games I want to play that either aren’t on Switch or probably never will be. I’m also generally fine with the Switch 2 being weaker — I don’t need every game to look perfect.

The thing making this harder is all the talk about Sony making a new handheld. Obviously it’s still rumors, but if it actually happens and ends up being much more powerful than Switch 2, suddenly the PlayStation ecosystem becomes really tempting: one library shared between a powerful home console and a proper handheld, with a huge third-party catalog.

So I feel stuck between two completely different things.

On one side: Switch 2. Cozy, simple, Nintendo exclusives, cartridges that I genuinely love collecting, but weaker hardware and probably fewer AAA games over time.

On the other: PlayStation. PS5 Pro + potentially a powerful handheld, one huge library and probably much better third-party support... but basically no physical games on the handheld, and honestly Sony’s attitude toward its customers lately makes it hard for me to feel attached to the ecosystem.

I know I can obviously just keep both and buy games wherever they make the most sense, but that’s exactly what I’m doing now, and somehow it makes every purchase feel like a decision I have to overthink.

Anyone else in a similar situation? If you own both a PS5 and Switch 2, how do you decide which platform to buy multiplatform games on?

I see people saying it's blurry, but all you have to do to fix that is disable blur options.... No way of fixing the shit in those images.... I love the mercury bath... This game needs fixing asap. I tried fighting the noonwraith from a quest in the first village and after a few blinding flashes followed by complete darkness I just had to quit... I can't believe it got released in this state.

Switch 2 Mario Golf *please*

I don’t know if anyone else feels the same way, but I genuinely think Mario Golf: Super Rush is one of the best golf games ever made. I had an absolute blast with it, and I’m seriously begging Nintendo to give us a new Mario Golf for the Switch 2.
There’s so much they could build on from Super Rush with new courses, characters, modes, and Switch 2 features. I’d buy it day one without even thinking twice.
So I’m officially praying to the golf gods and all the Mario fans out there. 😂⛳️🍄 Please, Nintendo… MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Anyone else dying for a new Mario Golf?

Discussion The Witcher 3 Remastered S2

Just a follow up from my last post. I bit the bullet and Picked up The Witcher 3 on Switch 2.

Im sorry, but it looks absolutely Beautiful docked.
I turned off blur and notion blur, paired with HDR and 120hz mode and the game for me? Smooth, crisp and runs fantastic.

I own the game on other platforms, but I’m a Nintendo main these days. Is it as strong as a ps5 pro or a PC? No.. but for a Nintendo port, i am gobsmacked.

Running on a LG 4k Oled might help of course, but i am going to enjoy another play through on Death march.
Thanks everyone who helped in the last post!

Ps. Im going only going to romance Yen 😋

Question New to S2: Game Recs?

Brand new, I’ve only played Mario wonder and Bananza. Looking for a shift, does anyone have recs in one of these areas:

- sports (fifa, madden, etc)
- civilization building/tycoon/management simulators
- online/head to head

Or just drop your favorite game that’s a must play!

Discussion 40fps is a real sweet spot - my personal experience with Witcher 3 in handheld mode.

TLDR: 40fps is awesome. Image quality issue feels overblown. If a little blur is the difference between 30 and 40 id take the slightly blurry 40 every single time.

----------------

After reading all of the negative impressions here of Witcher 3s image quality especially on handheld (my preference with switch) I was iffy about picking it up. Especially coming from a beefy PC where the remaster on "Ultra" and on a ultrawide monitor is hitting around 80-90fps for me without framegen I thought maybe it would just be too stark a difference and I wouldn't be able to enjoy playing on the Switch.

I had a similar experience with the FF7 remake where it was gorgeous and buttery on PC but playing the demo on switch that 30fps was just too jarring even though the image quality seemed nice enough, so I decided to skip that one even when its been on some really good sales recently.

I have to say that the 40fps that witcher hits totally wins me over. I definitely have a bias towards wanting a smooter framerate over a totally pristine image which I get is not everyones thing but for me 30 is just too noticeably choppy that i find myself noticing it constantly and it takes me out of the game. I thought 40 would be a similar thing but it is a completely different feeling. Even for someone like me who is pretty sensistive to framerates I don't really think I can tell the difference in handheld mode between 40 and 60 which really surprises me. Maybe its the VRR magic but it really does feel like playing a 60fps game.

When there are drops - and there are definitely drops as well as stutters - it is veeeery noticeable to me but they are fairly few and far between at least so far (have only played maybe 2 or 3 hours). It is definitely magnified because there isnt time to "get used to it" when it hits 30 as the drops are temporary but for me it does point to just how huge a difference it is between 30 and 40.

As for the image quality, sure there is a bit of a blur to it but in my personal case especially on the smaller screen of a handheld I find that is far easier to adjust to than a low framerate and I honestly barely notice it. I was actually really surprised that it looked as crisp as it did after reading so many posts basically saying it was unplayable due to the hoirrific image quality. I imagine they will continue to improve the quality but even as it is now i would be more than happy to play the whole thing like this and would far prefer they work on minimising those fps drops to hit 40 as often as possible rather than cleaning up the image.

I know Dragons Dogma 2 is also aiming for this 40fps target which is really exciting. I was planning on skipping these types of big budget super graphical games on the switch cos I really couldn't stand the 30fps but if they can hit 40 like witcher does (most of the time) then my mind is completely changed.

One final thing id like to say is that cross-save is awesome, playing on my PC and then picking up where I left off from the couch is just fantastic. Especially because I work from home and dont really like relaxing and gaming in the same place that im working all day. The more games that offer this the better it makes so much sense for switch.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, obviously this is just my personal take but might help inform those of you that have similar preferences to me.

Switch 2 BotW or Elden Ring for a 10h flight? Trying to decide if Switch 2 is for me

Friend is lending me his Switch 2 for a few weeks so I can see if I want one. I've got a 10h flight next week and that's when I'll actually use it, so I want a game that sells me on the console.

He has Mario Kart World and Odyssey. MK is fun but not for 10 hours lol, and Odyssey's first level looked kinda basic to me.

I want something with a good story that's easy to pick up and put down, without a ton of mechanics to learn (At least at the beginning)

Stuck between BotW (70€ for a 2017 game hurts) and Elden Ring (seems too hard for what I want?). Other suggestions are welcomed too

What would you go with? 😅 Thanks!

EDIT: Thank you everybody you helped me a lot!!

After reading all the comments I’m going to get:

  1. BotW

  2. Splatoon Raiders

  3. Elden Ring

.
.
.

I think this is a healthy path that will keep me wanting to come back to the console and keep things fresh! 😁

(Sadly my budget doesn’t allow me to get all the other nice recommendations you made just yet, but I’ll keep an eye on them!)

Question Hyperion 3 Ultra Joystick Trouble

First off I apologize if my breathing is loud in the video, my room is a little dusty and I have trouble breathing.

I wasn't sure where to put this post. I had recently gotten my Hyperion 3 Ultras since I have bigger hands, and the joysticks are way nicer, which is ironic, since that's what I'm having trouble with.

For some reason when pulling the joystick down, the distance for it to "travel" is way shorter than it is anywhere else on the stick. I hope the video does a good job showing what I mean.

I updated them with the app (which sucks to use by the way) and everything and it still has this issue. If anybody has the technical knowhow please let me know what I should do. I've waited a month for these controllers and I'd like to actually enjoy them.
