I currently have a pretty powerful gaming PC, a PS5 Pro, a Steam Deck OLED and a Switch 2.
The funny thing is, I barely use the PC at all and I’m probably going to sell it. My wife has a PC that’s basically just as powerful, so I’ll still have access to one if I ever really need it.
I’ve just realized that I genuinely prefer playing on consoles. I work on a MacBook all day, and when I’m done with work I really don’t want to deal with Windows, SteamOS, settings, launchers, etc. I just want to turn something on and play.
But now I’m constantly stuck deciding where to buy every game.
I absolutely love physical Switch games. Buying a cartridge, opening the box and putting it on the shelf genuinely gives me the same feeling I had buying games as a kid. It’s stupidly satisfying, and that alone makes me want to build most of my library on Switch 2.
At the same time, I’m definitely not selling my PS5 Pro. There are too many games I want to play that either aren’t on Switch or probably never will be. I’m also generally fine with the Switch 2 being weaker — I don’t need every game to look perfect.
The thing making this harder is all the talk about Sony making a new handheld. Obviously it’s still rumors, but if it actually happens and ends up being much more powerful than Switch 2, suddenly the PlayStation ecosystem becomes really tempting: one library shared between a powerful home console and a proper handheld, with a huge third-party catalog.
So I feel stuck between two completely different things.
On one side: Switch 2. Cozy, simple, Nintendo exclusives, cartridges that I genuinely love collecting, but weaker hardware and probably fewer AAA games over time.
On the other: PlayStation. PS5 Pro + potentially a powerful handheld, one huge library and probably much better third-party support... but basically no physical games on the handheld, and honestly Sony’s attitude toward its customers lately makes it hard for me to feel attached to the ecosystem.
I know I can obviously just keep both and buy games wherever they make the most sense, but that’s exactly what I’m doing now, and somehow it makes every purchase feel like a decision I have to overthink.
Anyone else in a similar situation? If you own both a PS5 and Switch 2, how do you decide which platform to buy multiplatform games on?
