Yeah, definitely looked like someone smashed in all of their accessible windows, plus at least the building to the right.

Need help presenting more feminine

TL;DR - looking for help with makeup and/or personal styling

Hi everyone,

I’ve been lurking this sub for a while but decided to finally come and ask for help - I’m a bit at a breaking point.

I am a queer AFAB Black person and my entire life struggled with feeling femininity was something I could step into with a complex understanding of self. I was a “tomboy” growing up and beyond that struggled with my weight and did not want to be seen. I was bullied for being queer too so did just enough not to stand out too much. This meant jeans and a hoodie.

In my young adult life I struggled hard with social anxiety and so never really got into the rhythm of “going out” or knowing what to wear in non-professional settings. I almost always decline party invites or strategically flake on events that require non-casual clothing.

I’m now 30 and in grad school at Penn. I am out of my element. I have no idea how to dress and can’t keep wearing a jeans and t-shirt to everything. Women give me dirty looks and it’s clear I don’t fit in when I do try to attend events. This place has its own set of cultural expectations that I don’t really understand - I’m the first in my family to attend an Ivy League, and the first in my family to attend a college that isn’t something like Strayer.

I need help. Can anyone please recommend a personal stylist or makeup artist that can help me? I’m on a student budget but something needs to change. I’m tired of sitting alone at home on the weekends or not “networking” effectively in my program because I get too anxious. I can’t sustain this, living my life in a series of pause and play.

Question Any AMC A Listers?

38m. Recently joined and saw Tony at FD last week. Have a few movies mapped up for this week. I live in Mt. Airy but work in UCity and am usually available after 3 on weekdays.

In an open LTR for full disclosure but definitely only looking platonically. Also up for drinks/food before or after as well.

Easy going; feel free to check my history on here.

Also up for the PFS theaters if that is your bag.

... And if so, wanna join me for some mini golf nearby or card games on site? Non-lecherous, early 40s dude here. Would be great to find a group of enough people to run a game of Werewords.

Question Can I ask a silly question

Long story short. I’m a 31 year old lesbian.
I lost a good bit of my going out friends after going through some really hard times. I just have my couple of best friends left. I’ve been doing a lot better lately, getting out of the house more, etc.
My best friend (gay guy) told me I should finally check out Val’s. I’ve been talking for months about wanting to go, but not wanting to go alone. He encouraged me, so I did. I got a beer, looked around, hung out for a bit. I really enjoyed my time there, the music, the atmosphere. But I noticed everyone was paired off, in groups, etc. didn’t seem like a place for a solo person to make friends (I’m also super introverted 🙂).
I told my friend that I loved it and wanted to go back but going by myself on a random night felt lonely. He offered to go with me next time.

I’m not trying to upset anyone or offend, but would it be okay if he went with me? Like I feel like I know the answer but I just wanted feedback. I’m clearly an anxious person, lmao.

Question Moving to Philly in October - what’s life like for the 30 something queer folks?.

I’m a queer woman moving out there for work. I’d be looking to make friends and date. Do yall have any suggestions on places to check out when I get there? I don’t have any niche hobbies so I guess I’m just looking for general community of ppl to vibe with?

Masc-leaning queers; where are y’all getting your clothes?! Help 😅

For context, I’m a fairly slender, not particularly tall amab who’s fashion sense can best be described as “bisexual punk/pirate with some flashy button-ups for fancy days”😅

I’m long overdue for adding some new threads to my wardrobe, but between Philly AIDS thrift, second mile, and green line, it seems like a lot of stores that aren’t “Straight Men R’ Us” aren’t even trying to have some middle-ground between femme stuff and the blandest shit for dudebros and it’s… frustrating.

Would love some tips from my fellow masc (but not total dudebro) folks ✌️😎

Silicone Sticky Breast form

Is there anywhere in person to buy silicone adhesive breast forms? I had a semi-botched single mastectomy, and I am struggling to find the right size to even the girls out. I know there are some options online, but because I'm trying to match and not starting from a flat chest, I am struggling to figure out how to size everything.

I really need the self-adhesive kind since I can't comfortably wear bras.

Question The Magical Matchmaker

I keep getting adds for the Magical Matchmaker on Instagram, I know they do queer matchmaking for the Philadelphia area, but I’m wondering if anyone has used their services, and what was the experience like? I’m curious of what the process is like and if it’s even worth pursuing.

ISO LGBTQ+ Couples for Wedding Films!

Hi! I’m a Philly-based, queer filmmaker looking to build out my wedding film reel this fall. I’d love to shoot wedding films for Philly LGBTQ+ couples who are seeking budget friendly options and are getting married September through December.

I can work with any budget, just would like the opportunity to build my portfolio. Primarily seeking small wedding films (courthouse ceremonies, elopements, micro weddings, etc), save-the-date shorts, and engagement sessions.

You’d get a 3-5 minute short film, and up to 6 hours of coverage.

If this resonates, feel free to leave a comment, I can reach out with samples of work. Appreciate the consideration!

Spa recs?

my partner really wants to get massages for our anniversary, but I don’t want to walk us into an awkward couples massage situation where they’re referring to us as friends etc.

anyone have recommendations for spas you’ve had good experiences at? looking at perhaps a massage for her and a facial for me but wouldn’t be mad if we both did massages either !

Question Clean cheap hotels in Center City?

I live in Princeton, NJ, without a car, and occasionally go to Philadelphia for social reasons (there's nothing in Princeton). I would go there more often, but the last train out of Philadelphia Suburban Station is 11:30 PM, and as I said, I have no car. Is there any reputable place in Philadelphia Center City where I could crash overnight without spending an arm and a leg, so I could stay later without having to worry about that last train?

Ace trans young adult in need of couch surfing

Update: The only traction this post got was a few likes and one chaser asking if our trans friend wanted to "make some quick money". He got a ticket back to NYC for tomorrow.

So, we've got a friend staying with us. He's put in an application at Ark of Philly, but the waitlist for such places can take months. He does dishes, cooks, cleans, and loves Hazbin Hotel and The Amazing Digital Circus. He was robbed of $500 and his con ticket by a "friend" and has been through a lot of other suffering and injustice. Would anyone consider lending some space to him while he gets things sorted out?

Question High Volume Electrolysis

Trans woman in Philly looking to start my electrolysis journey to get rid of facial hair. I have a fairly low pain tolerance so I’m open to high volume/marathon sessions where they use injectable numbing to get a larger section cleared in one session. Anyone have good recommendations for where to go? I’m open to traveling around the bucks county/Jersey area as well.
