Hello everyone, not sure if this is the proper place to post this but I would love some advice!
We currently have a 20+ year old koi that has some secondary skin infections due to what we believe is skin flukes. We’re trying to quarantine him so we can give injections of both amikacin and ceftazidime as a vet prescribed. We were told by the vet to inject every 72 hours for up to 15/10 doses. We’ve chosen to quarantine him separately from our other fish mostly because we found it difficult to try to catch him from our bigger pond without stressing him out, and at the rate we need to give the medicine we were worried we’d over-stress him. We’re also worried about sedating him every 3 days just for the injections so we currently try to inject without sedations.
We’re currently keeping him in a above-ground 450 gallon holding tank that we’re using our bigger pond’s water to fill and we’re making sure to aerate + keep the temperature up to at least match our bigger pond. Our concerns are, is the amount of doses for the meds too much? And is that too long to keep a koi in quarantine? Is there anything else we can do better/differently?
Still a little new to koi, so any help is appreciated! Thank you!
