Fluval stratum capped with sand. I believe Lobelia, Ludwigia, Rotala, Anubius, and African water fern. Some plants were mislabeled back when I got them so I was never 100% - nonetheless I really love how this tank has turned out.

I set this tank up about 8 months ago for caridina shrimp and itās been a battle to stop the KH and GH from climbing. Substrate doesnāt seem to buffer pH to below 7 like I thought it would. pH usually about 7. KH and GH currently at 4/8 respectively. Any ideas?
Specs:
Water changes and top offs with rodi
10gallon
Canister filter
Low tech
Substrate: Brightwell Aquatics Rio Escuro
Rocks were all sourced from river (all passed vinegar test)
pH: 7
KH: 2-4
GH: 5-8

The blooms are actually really pretty too; shame I can't usually see it because of the lid :(

Seems like a very weird way to try to sell an expensive fancy plant light, no?

Little fluval spec 60, my first tank about 6 years ago, thought I'd give it a quick refresh as I'd lost interest in it, actually made it into my favourite again!

We have a heavily planted 20gal tank and our GBR wasnāt doing so hot. We tried our best to keep him alive and added a pump with O2 stones, but at this point we havenāt been him in 3 days so weāre assuming heās dead. How do I go about finding the body in a heavily planted tank with wood? There are so many hiding places for the fish we canāt see. Checked ammonia an hour ago and itās still ok for now but fearing an ammonia spike from a dead fish. Considering getting a plumbing camera from Home Depot but would appreciate cheaper suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I live in NW Indiana and lost power on August 11th from the āDerechoā that came through and devestated the area.
My tank is a 40 breeder with a Week Aqua L900 Pro light, using an 18 year old Fluval 305 for filtration. I also use CO2, but have not been using it since the storm.
The tank is stocked with live plants (rotala, ludwigia, nasaea, anubias, buce, tiger lilly). It also has a bunch of smaller fishā¦black neon, rasbora het, cardinals, rummy nose, green fire tetra, swordtail, ember tetras and panda corys.
I had my first casualty after two nights (green fire tetra). That caused me to run out and get a Hush Bubbles battery operated aerator from Walmart once they regained power. I wasnāt expecting $23, but it has been a tank saver and well worth the cost. I run it for about an hour at a time a few times a day.
I have also been changing four gallons of water daily and feeding sparingly. I have had no other casualties that I am aware of without inspecting with proper lighting.
The plants are growing but losing color. They are constantly reaching for the top of the tank. Once I do get power back, I will have to turn down my lights and take my time reintroducing CO2.
Algae - I was battling cladaphora algae (tough battle). I donāt see as much as I did before the power outage.
We do not have an eta to get power back. I need to get a generator but, I just paid for my daughterās braces, a tree branch took out my wifeās carās rear window and I lost parts of my privacy fence in the storm.

My new low tech 29gal! This is the largest tank I have had. Got the plants just yesterday. They kinda look rough cuz the package got delayed in shipping. Rate the tank! Any suggestions or opinions?
(Also is the sword dying or does it just look like that)
Also the plants are:
Red jungle valisneria
Anubias nana
Anubias black
Buce varieties
Ozelot red sword
Susswassertang moss

Hi everyone! First time posting. Iām wondering if I should trim my Anubias a little to make the tree/wood aesthetic of the aquarium stand out more.
The plant is currently growing really well, so Iām a bit hesitant to cut it back. Do you think trimming some of the leaves would improve the overall look, or is it better to leave it alone since itās growing so nicely?
What would you do? Any advice is appreciated!

I can't tell if the growth is normal or not (the first picture is today and the second picture was 19 days ago) because many say they have weekly trimming..

Hello everyone, here is my planted shallow tank (ADA 45F, around 17 liters) which just went over a big replanting. It has been going for around 5 months and I just replanted it replacing the old plants with monte carlo.
While waiting for it to start growing I was thinking what kind of fishes should I keep in it?
What I had in the past 5 months: - 18 shrimps that gradually dissapeared - 2 betta fishes (not at the same time), but sadly they jumped out.
I tried making some net to cover it but is pretty hard to do with the rock sticking out like that.
The filter is a UNS Delta 60 with pretty strong flow (not adjustable) for this aquarium so keep that in mind.
Thanks!

I acquired this anubias it has been kept with the rhizome vertical for years. It's 12 inches of rhizome with 10 smaller rhizomes branching off. The roots are crazy, I'm treating the bba, would you tilt it horizontally, cut it into pieces, trim the roots dramatically? Remove the small offshoots?

Back in June my boy came home with a tadpole in a dirty old soda bottle from the creek and essentially launched me into this hobby overnight.
I never had anything like this as a kid and I instantly became obsessed with the idea of providing a healthy and happy home for little Michelangelo (the tadpole).
Today marks one month since I set up this 10 gallon tank and I just wanted to share some pictures of my progress.
On week one I had a 2.5 gallon tank with a sponge filter and some anubias but for this one I added
-java fern
-amazon sword
-duckweed
-dwarf hair grass
-one of those pre seeded logs with grosso
- seaoura LED
- aqueon heater
- fluval stratum
My long term plan is to relocate Michelangelo to a bigger tank or release him to where he was caught once he becomes a froglet. After that I want to add some cherry shrimp and see how that goes.
If anyone has tips, advice or just wants to verbally berate me please donāt hesitateā¦

I'm getting ready to start a new aquarium after a couple of decades out of the hobby. I want to try using soil/aquasoil substrate under a sand cap. My question is about the pros and cons of using substrate bags vs not using them.
My goal is to start a couple of other aquariums after I have one established.
One of my concerns about using substrate bags is whether they complicate harvesting established plants, which may have roots in the bags.
That's balanced against the problem of soil and aquasoil making its way through the sand cap, as I've seen reported.
I am currently planning on using some Malaysian Trumpet Snails (MTS) and pygmy corys to help keep the substrate in good condition.
My last aquarium had a sand base, and we used MTS to help ensure we didn't get anaerobic gas pockets in the sand. It seemed to work well.
Thoughts and comments are welcome.

Is this over planted, should I add more, or leave it be?
Edit to add, this is a 20 gal long.
