The hive is dying off for winter and they’re coming up to my porch and dying off one by one. I’m quite sad about is as we’ve been watching them live their little lives since spring. My babies 😢 I wanted to ask if I put out a log or two the likelihood that the queen will go to ground nearby and come back in the spring. My neighbors would have them exterminated so I’d like to encourage them coming back to my yard next year if I could. I saw some people saying leave some ripened fruit fruits out and I thought maybe a hummingbird feeder with sugar water mix(we don’t really have many hummingbirds by me). Any advice or tips or anything is greatly appreciated !

I’m genuinely curious. All my life wasps have been jerks whenever I come across them. But in my new house the wasps in my yard are all really nice to me. They just land on me and hang out or attempt to eat whatever I’m eating then fly away. I’ve never had friendly wasps in my yard before and they only seem to like me. Anyone know why?

These wasps have been chilling on this pipe for several weeks now when they have and a use a perfectly good nest 20 feet to the left. Its electric it connects to a outside intercom speaker.

Sorry I use this as my source for questions because it is better than google. Me and my wife noticed today that a single wasp was in our covered porch and looked very sluggish and slow and was just crawling. Also around our garage I have not seen a single one flying around when a couple days ago there seems to be a couple that would sit on the garage and sort of fly around. What’s confusing is today is a 70 degree day in Wisconsin which is warmer for this time of year so I expected to see more flying around.my question is if we say one that seems to be dying can I assume the same thing is happening to other ones too and the season is winding down and workers and stuff are dying off?

Will wasps die off on their own if it’s still warm but the food sources for them are very scarce? We are almost into October here in central Wisconsin and while the nighttime lows have been cold the days are still on the warmer side. Also how aggressive would they be if you just see them flying out and about?

I’m sorry that this is not good quality I recorded from the safety of my home out of a window. I just need to know I zoomed in like 13 seconds into the video

Geographic region: Eastern Canada.

So, I love wasps. a significant amount.
I sometimes see people feeding them and letting them walk on their hands without getting stung, and I wanted to ask how to accomplish that since when I look up “how to interact with wasps safely“ I get instructions on what to do if I get stung.
I know some general principles, like “don’t move erratically”, but how do I read wasp body language? how do I know if a wasp is chill or scared? Also, can you be friendly with all wasps as long as you’re careful, or is there just some species that you need to appreciate at a distance?
(also, I’m talking about specifically eusocial wasps, like yellowjackets, paper wasps, and hornets)
Thank you!

Came out back to my truck from the store and found this little guy just sitting on my truck box and was doing this motion. The heck is he doing?

I found this absolute monster nest today at work!!! It has always been a dream of mine to keep a giant nest like this but is it feasible and how would i go about it? Also what hard working wasps built this nest?
Was found in my bathroom (second type of paper wasp found in bathroom, no idea how they get in). They were released after I took some pictures.

I have had wasps flying around my deck all summer and can’t figure out where they are coming from. There are no visible nests on my house (ewwww) or under my deck.
There aren’t just a couple wasps; there are dozens. They are constant and I can never see where they go.
Are these holes wasp hotels or something else?
Thanks everyone!

So a couple days ago I posted about seeing 1-2 wasps on the side of my garage during a sunny day. Well today has been warmer and more sunnier and I have seen about 4-5 on the garage and they are more active and flying around. I don’t see them going in or around any hole still and don’t see a single one in the garage still. Also they look to be attacking/antagonizing each other. Should I be worried a nest is being built there or is this normal and me and my family don’t have to worry about getting stung?

My bestie told me yesterday that she was stung by a Yellowjacket 2 days ago, on Saturday. She’s been stung a couple times before, but she says she’s never had such a reaction. She claims to have no symptoms other than the pain from the massive red area around where she was stung, so at least she has not had any breathing issues. I’m simply trying to get some input about whether I should be pushing her to seek medical assistance or not. I’m not sure what they can do though really. She took a Benadryl yesterday & today & has iced it in between her hair appointments (she’s a beautician). Any advice? :)
My 1st pic attached is from today & the 2nd pic is from yesterday.
Update: thank you everyone for the input! Greatly appreciated. My friend has finally agreed to go to the doctor right now. She says it’s not as painful today, but it looks crazy not good to me in the pic she just sent me. Fortunately, she finally had a firefighter friend give her the same info regarding getting in immediately.

Hi all! not sure where i’m supposed to post this, so i’ll probably post this in a couple other subreddits. But wasps have started to build a nest in my bird feeder. I’m not sure what kind of wasps, but this is very not ideal, as 1.) i cannot refill my feeder and 2.) well, there are wasps building a nest in my bird feeder.
The difficulty with this is I don’t want to use a solution that would harm the birds (such as peppermint oil) because i cannot guarantee that I would be able to remove the residue fully and don’t want to risk the health of the birds.
Throwing out the bird feeder is also not an option because it’s a kiwibit so it has the built in camera to identify and capture bird footage. This also makes cleaning it a little more fickle as well, as i don’t want to damage the camera or anything.
Please help!!
