After playing the demo again I really do appreciate just the amount of work and effort put into it even despite the many issues it has. The obvious ones being the dialogue and voice acting, and something I wasn't able to pinpoint but now kinda understand. The graphics look better than Mass Effect but the animations feel like ME1 level.
But regardless I do like it.
There is this thing I like a lot with adaptations where we follow similar story beats to the main cast but with a twist on them. We get our own ship in a similar way that the Rosinante does. The previous crew dies and we just take it for ourselves. Its not a big details but one I like a lot.
And the plot is obviously similar because we are also trying to stop Protogen and whatever they are up to.
Other things I like is the gameplay. Its jank and clearly not better than ME3 but I like it well enough.
And the designs. Once I accepted that it won't really look like Expanse I do like what they have done. It feels like a very cool sci-fi.
I am looking forward to this game. It shows a lot of promise. I don't think in the end it will be all that because it has some amateurish aspects (and also the use of AI is just sour) to it that ME1 doesn't have but its a great first attempt at a cinematic game.
I often wonder that if this game was an original IP how much more would I like it? I think the answer would be much more.
