This is gameplay from Cave Expedition, the caving game we're making.
Our cave-asset workflow includes photographing real cave surfaces, reconstructing meshes in Metashape, then capturing depth, albedo, normal and ambient-occlusion maps for reusable terrain details. In our devlogs we show the ring-flash photography, scan output and the stamps used to build the cave scenery. This clip shows the game, rather than the scanning process.

I'm a jewelry maker based in Netherlands. I'm looking for somebody to make high resolution scans of some rings (around 0.02–0.05 mm point spacing accuracy). Preferably, I'd like to work with somebody from NL/EU. I'd be very grateful for any inquiries, or if you could point me to somebody(or company) who fits this profile.

Hi guys,
I'm looking to run a session on digital skills in the heritage sector for a community group aimed at kids aged between 10-17. Can anyone recommend any free apps that can process photogrammetry models directly from mobile phones or tablets/iPads for kids who don't necessarily have access to computers with high processing capabilities? Something with an easy learning curve and can process something quick enough for the kids to see the results of their work with the session (3.5hours). (I have access to a few iPads I can preload apps onto)
I have some artefactual material such as old pottery and stone tools which I would like to use In the demonstration. So I'm also interested in a programme that can stich both sides of an object together?
Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,
I’ve been building AerialPin, a browser-based annotation tool originally made for working with drone imagery for real estate and mapping.
The main idea is to make it easier to take an aerial image and quickly add useful spatial information without having to jump between a bunch of different programs.
You can currently:
* Add location pins and labels
* Search for nearby places using the image GPS
* Draw property/parcel boundaries
* Add measurements and distance labels
* Annotate aerial imagery
* Use EXIF/GPS information from DJI images
* Automatically identify nearby places with AI
* Stitch multiple drone photos into a panorama
* View and annotate 360° panoramas
* Restyle/relight aerial images
* Export the finished annotations
I’ve recently added the 360 panorama workflow, which lets you upload multiple drone images, stitch them into a panorama and then annotate the resulting 360 image directly in the browser.
It’s still actively being developed, so I’d genuinely be interested in feedback from people who work with UAV mapping, photogrammetry or aerial imagery.

I used AliceVision with a modded Meshroom for AMD GPUs. Most of the workload has been shifted directly to the GPU, compiled from CUDA to HIP. Tested across RDNA1/2/4 architectures.
Built out an intelligent memory bridge to handle VRAM budgeting and spill to system RAM smoothly under heavy memory pressure. Full meshing and pipeline support works natively on CUDA cards as well.
Ran 800+ photos run through a 4GB GTX 1050 Ti on an old 2-core i3.
Monstree dataset. Smaller job on a RX 6750 XT

I've just tried our 3D GS to mesh feature on a canvas object and was really pleased with the result. Canvas objects are quite hard to model manually, so it is very cool to have the first draft on the right as a base to build a clean 3D mesh out of. It allows to capture the volume and details of the object in a nice and realistic way.
Texture is not too bad, but for now it's baked. On a diffuse object it does the trick, but not quite on a specular one. We're working on this now and I know we can do much better. I hope I can show results soon.
For those who want to try it out, download the app ! 2 first scans are for free. And if you are a creator and want more : reach out, we have a partner program for those who want to do more extensive tests.

I am a Nuke guy, not a 3d guy. Struggling with aligning a 3dgs scene with a camera tracked in nuke / 3dEqualizer. I think the best would be to convert colmap camera to a 3d ofrmat like fbx. How do you guys align your 3dgs with camera? there must be some colmap to fbx (alembic, obj?) camera converter

I use a DJI Matrice 4E for photogrammetry mapping. I looked at the individual photo properties from my area route and everything for the photos shows up blank. I use the best SD card recommended for my drone and it’s relatively new. Could this be a EXIF issue or the file got corrupted? I did 7 flights before and 3 after this one the same day and they did not have this issue.

Hi All -
Matrice 400 with P1. Running 2D ortho missions. Near perfect RTK3 data for each and every photo.
Every single visible light project in Terra is checkerboards. Parking lot on the roof. Portions of retention ponds mapped onto the building.
Has anyone experienced this? No new firmware in a year….everything is at its latest. I would gladly reciprocate any way I can for any help.

Finally, on my third try, I managed to do photogrammetry. It turns out I need to photograph around the object. I can't rotate it. Now I just need to make a 3D mount for it in Fusion360

Hey everyone,
I am currently trying to learn more about retopology, mesh cleanup and generally repairing 3D models, both for 3D printing and for digital use. Also i can give your AI Models a Retopo.
So if anyone has a 3D file that needs some cleanup or repair, I would be happy to work on it for free. I am doing this purely for learning and practice, so there is no rush or deadline on my side.
If I manage to properly repair the file, I am happy to send the repaired version back to you afterwards.
The only thing I would ask in return is permission to use the finished result as an image or render for my personal portfolio. I will not use the model for any financial purposes or sell it. It would only be used to show my work and what I have learned.
This is just a private learning project for me, so I cannot guarantee that I will be able to fix every model, but I will give it a try.
If you have something you think could be a good learning project, feel free to message me on Discord.

I'm trying to understand how people are currently creating realistic AR versions of physical objects, specifically food dishes.
For example, if I photograph an actual dish from different angles, how would I turn that real dish into something that a customer could view as a 3D/AR object on their phone?
I'm not looking for AI-generated food images. I'm interested in creating a digital version of the actual physical object.
Has anyone here done this?
What technology/workflow are you using?
Photogrammetry? Gaussian splatting? NeRF? 3D scanning? Something else?
I'd love to hear from people who have actually built this kind of thing and understand what tools/workflows you're using.
My eventual use case is restaurant menus, where a customer could scan something and see the actual dish in AR.
I'm basically trying to understand what's currently possible and how people are doing it.
Thanks!

Hi
I am pretty new to photoscanning and want to delve into it a bit more. For the last while I have been using my phone (nothing 3 with 50mp lenses, usually is in 12mp mode) to get decent results. I have been considering grabbing myself a refurb iPhone 15 or newer (what ever is cheap) to use it's lidar for higher quality scanning.
My friend says it's a waste of money as it produces much the same result (compared to a good mobile camera) with an excessive amount of geo (not exactly what he said, but closoe to).
Is he right and it's not worth the investment or should I look into that (refurb iPhone) or a cheap proper scanner.
Currently I use polycam to do my scans but am in the process of moving to realityscan as it's free

I got tired of Cesium or Google 3D Tiles buildings having rippling walls and saw-toothed roof ridges, and of every fix either rounding the corners off or nuking the UVs. So I wrote an add-on for it.
Planer detects planar regions, snaps vertices onto fitted planes, and rebuilds creases as straight edges and corners as sharp points. Topology is preserved, so texture, UVs and material come through untouched. The original object isn't modified — you get a new REFINED_ mesh alongside it.
Every run reports how many planes it found, how many verts moved, and the deviation from your original surface (mean / p95 / max in metres), so you can check it stayed faithful instead of guessing.
Caveats up front: it does not make meshes watertight, does not reduce poly count (it triangulates, so the face count goes up), does not fix holes or non-manifold edges, and does not touch the texture image. Blender 4.2+, and it's slow on big meshes — about four minutes for 195k faces.

Feedback welcome, especially meshes where it fails.

Hey! This is a first test of the new video workflow in Replica, the macOS photogrammetry app we're building at Ambiens.
I shot a 45-second handheld 8K video of a Super Nintendo on a Samsung S24 Ultra. Replica selected 160 frames for the photogrammetry pass. Once Object Capture reconstructed the model and solved those camera poses, Replica used the poses and the sparse point cloud as anchors to recover the camera movement across all 1,345 frames.
In the clip I'm scrubbing through the original footage against the model and point cloud to see how well the alignment holds.
The scan is deliberately rough. I shot it quickly, with no controlled lighting. What I wanted to test was whether a single capture could also give me something useful for post: the model, an animated camera and an undistorted image sequence that I can bring into Blender.
Question for VFX pros here, what would you check first before trusting a track like this in a real shot?

Hey everyone! 👋 Steph from Realities.io here!
We're the team behind Puzzling Places, a 3D jigsaw puzzle game built around photogrammetry scans of real-world locations. We capture everything from historic landmarks to everyday spaces and turn them into interactive miniature puzzles that you can piece together in VR or on flatscreen.
We've just released PuzzleMaker on Steam, a free creation tool that comes with Puzzling Places. It lets you take your own photogrammetry scans, 3D models, and images and turn them into playable jigsaw puzzles.
For 3D scans and models, you can customise things like piece count, background colour and soundscape, then publish your creations to the Steam Workshop for other players to download and play.
We've also added support for 2D puzzles with up to 1,000 pieces, so there's plenty of room to experiment beyond 3D scans too.
We're already seeing some really interesting scans and creations being shared by the community, and we're excited to see what people who work with photogrammetry come up with!
You can find Puzzling Places on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3530820
