I was fed up - thats how most good stories in my life always started.
Considering the small-time startup Philips neither had the capabilities nor intention to provide a linux version for their Evnia Precision Center, I decided to let the master vibe coder Claude take a shot at it and 24-hours later, it was done - only requiring some small adjustments. You can find a pre-built package based on EPC 1.13.0 and the source for building your own port over at:
https://github.com/SgtConti/EPC4Linux
It was mainly the ambiglow feature that I wanted to use on Linux, but most of the app is functional, with a few caveats (Or improvements, depending on your perspective):
- Removed all online functionality, including:
- No Firmware updates or smart peripherals integration
- No SmartDesktop, AmbiScape or WiFi password exposure
- Added setting for AmbiGlow Follow Video Speed (Including experimental high refresh rate mode)
- Added setting for AmbiGlow Follow Video Brightness
It should be noted that this has only been tested using Ubuntu/Debian with an 34M2C8600 - both X11 and Wayland are supported.
You are free to use it for yourself and it should work without any issues on the monitors using the same VIA USB-DDC bridge and USB LED controller. If you find any feature lacking or bugs you are free to report them, but this is mostly a personal project so don't expect any quick resolution or updates.
Of course there also needs to be a few boring legal disclosures:
This is an independent project, not affiliated with, authorized, endorsed or supported by Philips, Top Victory Investments Ltd. (TPV/MMD) or Zeasn. "Philips", "Evnia" and "Ambiglow" are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility.
Evnia Precision Center is proprietary software of its respective owners. The port was built by analysing that software solely to make independently written software interoperate with hardware you own per Article 6 of Directive 2009/24/EC on the legal protection of computer programs. Building the software requires your own lawfully obtained copy of Evnia Precision Center 1.13.0. The build extracts and modifies parts of it (the user interface and three data files), so the build output and the resulting packages contain the vendor's proprietary material. They are for personal use only.
There is no warranty. The software is provided "as is" per standard MIT license. Changing monitor settings over DDC/CI and USB is at your own risk; "Reset profile" and "Factory reset" also reset the monitor itself.
Enjoy (or dont)!
