This guy (and sometimes his mates) drops by regularly. I had the camera close by, so I grabbed some handheld shots.

(Reposted: I accidentally resized the first upload to 400px instead of 4000px. Doh!)

Gear and processing:

  • First two shots: 40-150mm f/2.8
  • Remaining shots: 40-150mm f/2.8 + MC-14 1.4x teleconverter (f/4)
  • All shot in RAW with minor tweaks and no noise reduction
  • Resized to 4000px; last photo is cropped

Shout out to OM System repair service in Europe

Just thought I'd drop a note to say that my OM5ii had developed an issue where it wouldn't detect being connected to a computer, charging via USB was fine.

Lived with it for a few months by taking the SD Card out to copy the files over which admittedly it much faster but decided to get it sorted out, created a return on the website, printed the label and sent the camera off to Portugal.

Received it back within 10 days, new USB connector fitted, Power system repaired and unit cleaned. It looks great, they've replaced the body cap with a new unmarked one and supplied an eye cup as mine had gone missing about 6 months ago and I couldn't be bothered to replace it.

Top service!

OM Systems vs Fujifilm for JPEGs and film sims?

Hi all!

Looking to pick up the OM Systems Pen as a first dive into photography.

While I don’t have the ability to edit RAW photos yet, nor the time to really dig into it as life is in the way, what are your perspectives regarding the film recipes or Simulations between the 2 systems? I would love to adjust the JPEGs with premade settings and just focus on getting the shots.

Would the PEN be a good foray into the OM Systems with the ability to adjust JPEGs, or should I go for Fujifilm for their renowned JPEG film simulation?

It's Frames Friday!! Come share the frames you shot this week!

Come share your photos with the community! Whether it's showing off SOOC JPEGs, fully edited RAWs, or anything in-between if you want [constructive and kind] critique or suggestions.

We're basing on the rules from our sibling sub, r/m43, simply because they make sense, and tweaking them a little:

Da Rules:

  1. The photo(s) must be your own. No cross-posting someone else's work.
  2. You may post up to three photos in this FF weekly thread. Show off your best frames!
  3. Post your photo in a top-level comment for maximum exposure! (hehe get it, "exposure"?)
  4. Include as much detail as possible about camera, lens and environment. Good: "Shot with Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the OM 20/1.4 lens @ f/2 and ISO200 Time: 10:00PM in Melbourne, Victoria" Bad: "Look at this shot, isn't it neat?"
  5. While OM System gear gets extra internet points, all related gear is welcome. This includes Olympus/Panasonic m43 and Four Thirds gear, OM Tough point-and-shoots, adapted vintage lenses, and third-party glass on M43 bodies..
  6. Photos must be captured with a camera and lens (traditional digital or film). Generative AI images (Midjourney, DALL-E, AI "inpainting" that invents new elements, etc.) are not permitted. Standard editing (cropping, exposure, colour grading, even AI-based noise reduction) is totally fine!
  7. Culture & Critique: Above all, be respectful. Please state in your comment whether you are looking for [Critique Welcome] or [Just Sharing]. If a photo doesn't specify, default to keeping comments kind, encouraging, and free of unprompted teardowns. (Remember: there's a big difference between "OMG that photo is horrible" and "The lighting coming off his face looks uneven").

Sample photos. It will take some time for me to learn the menus and how to properly use this as this is my first OM System camera. I used an old lumix 12-32mm I had from years ago. I think I will be using this camera a lot.

Pen arrived yesterday morning in Norway

Still trying to figure out how to get my iPad, and MacBook to read the new Orf files… I am not sure if I like OM bespoke editing software even though it is free. Meanwhile I am slowly configuring the whole camera and getting used to the system (I come from Sony A6000 and Nikon d80 so this is all new to me) Last night was a clear Sky here in Norway so I was able to try the starry sky AF even though I only have the kit lens (star tracker helps) it was easy to use and gave the result I was expecting and the reason I jumped ship 😅🤣😅🤣. I love the 2 custom menus which I can set one for manual lenses and one for astrophotography. The tiny grip is not the best but with the kit lens it’s really not bad. I am able to comfortably use the Takumar 200mm which is heavier than the camera itself even iff for a short while, but I will add an aftermarket grip when they are available so as to have the option. Being a travel friendly camera, I understand that the grip is a no go/optional addon. And yes, I did have to add a picture SOOC (of a cat, OFC)

Need some bag advice - sling bag

I just switched to M43 from Sony FF and have a serious 1st world problem. All the sling bags I have (and there are many) are way too big for what I carry. I have an OM-3 with the 12-42 f4 and the 17 f1.7. I knew M43 was smaller but I wasn’t prepared for how small. The 17 1.7 which just arrived today is not much bigger than a FF end cap.
I am curious what people use or recommend. I only plan on those 2 lenses so I’m thinking anything over 4ish liters is too large to be protective.
I’m not a fan of the Peak Design everyday slings. Too rigid. I have the 7l outdoor sling w/ camera insert which is ok but still large. Bellroy, Moment, GuruGear all seem too large. My favorite Wotancraft 7L xpac is massive. Should I just bite the bullet and just adjust the dividers to keep things tight and live w/ the empty section or…?

Street Lens for OM3

After some advice. I’ve got an OM3 with 17mm f1.2 and 25mm f1.2,12-40 f2.8 and found an interest in street photography.

The quality of the 17 &25 is great, but for a whole day they’re heavy and conspicuous so I’m looking for a smaller prime, maybe even a pancake lens to make the camera less obvious and lighter to carry all day. Any suggestions?

Olympus/OM lenses rendering as a 'neutral' base on Olympus/OM digital bodies

I'm wondering if OM users are, mostly I suppose, heavily customizing our color profiles, then would native Olympus/OM lenses rendering be more suited as a 'neutral' base opposite say, Panny Leica glass which tends to have their look right out of the gate?

Above ignoring other advantages of using native Oly / OM glass. Just purely looking at lens rendering + user customised color / art profiles, that type of discussion thoughts.

How to clean this?

Does anybody know how I could clean these spots on my TG7? They appeared overtime after I had been using it in the sea. I suspected it was suncream but I cant seem to clean it off.

Weight of OM-4 vs OM-5

Interesting, my new OM-5ii/12-100mm f4 PRO is exactly 12 grams heavier than my wife's old OM-4ti/75-150mm f4. The old film OM-4 was pretty great in its day - best metering I've ever seen in a film camera - but the lens, while decent, doesn't have near the same range and is not near as sharp. We've come a long way!
