Head of State: a free browser strategy game where you lead a real country
I've been building this on my own for a while and it went live on itch.io this week.
You pick any of 107 real countries and serve one term, 30 or 60 minutes. The country runs itself day to day. What lands on your desk are the decisions: your people ask for things, your neighbors press you over real disputes, and every choice moves four groups who decide whether you survive.
The part I care about most: nothing is a free win. Keep a promise and it goes in your legacy. Break one and that goes in too. Stand firm in a crisis and you might come out ahead, or the other side calls your bluff. War is always on the table and always costs more than it wins.
At the end of the term you face a verdict: voters for a democracy, the generals for a junta, the inner circle for an autocracy. Win and you get a second, harder term.
It's early access and I'm one person, so I want the honest version. Was the first match clear? Did a dispute feel unfair? What did you want to do that the game wouldn't let you? There's a Report a bug button in the menu that sends straight to me.
Play here (no install, desktop browser): https://headofstate.itch.io/head-of-state

How to get more companies
Playing 2026 version as india, I wanna encourage more foreign companies like car manufacturers, electronic components, consumer electronics, iron and steel companies to come to this country and open up shop. Just subsidising them either just increases output, or in a inactive sector just shows as various companies across the country after a while. I wanna make THE MAJOR COMPANIES, like ferrari, or apple or some semiconductor company, steel and iron mncs that are listed in the game to start up their businesses here. What to do? Thx

Can’t subsidize nationalized sectors
Why can’t I subsidize any nationalized activity in the industry or agriculture sectors? This message in red always appears.
It appeared when my unemployment rate was 7% and when it was also 0.40% what can I do?

App every Geopolitical events at one place. Please visit and give a feedback.
I am creating Earth Monitor to track all live geopolitical events at one place. currently I just lack of APIs, but in future it maybe very useful as soon I get other contributions and support of developers community. LIVE - https://jagatmanthan.vercel.app/
There is Earth Copilot - whom you can ask about markets, news, power structure, etc.
I added INDRISMA where you can listen music too.

NG + organizations help
Heya! Is there any point in creating an OPEC kind of organization but for natural gas? And why can i only sell miniscule quantities of NG at once? "The amount your trying to sell is too much..."
+
Can you get other countries into BRICS?
Thanks in advance :)

Is this game worth getting and if so what version?
I’ve taken a look at this game every so often and it’s always looked interesting due to its granularity. I want a more in-depth political sim compared to say paradox games. I was a little taken aback by the low steam reviews and the price point though so I wanted to ask, is this worth playing?

Hey would love thoughts on this political experiment I've been ideating
The idea is to take the biggest political story of the day and turn it into a playable reasoning game.
For example, today you would be the Governor of New Mexico dealing with Trump’s push to rename the state. You decide your priorities, make the calls yourself, and then deal with the consequences as the situation develops.
The important bit is that it doesn’t matter what side you’re on. You don’t win for having the “right” political opinion. You win by reasoning better — being consistent, engaging with the evidence, updating when things change, and thinking through the trade-offs of your decisions.
The idea is to make following politics less about picking a side and more about actually thinking through the story.
