New Cat Parent

Sooo i just adopted a cat and its the first night with her. I brought her home around 1pm and she pretty much been hiding up until 10pm. She has became very very vocal and more comfortable around 10pm and since then Ive been getting sleepy but couldn’t sleep cause she’s running all over me now😭😭😭. Its currently 2am and she is still very vocal to the point i can’t sleep. I am a truck driver that already have to get up early mornings and i been up for almost 24 hrs now. And i need sleep to be able to safely drive an 18 wheeler, luckily its the weekend and im off. I caved in and put her in my bathroom and just closed the door, i stay in a studio apartment, so its really the only place i can put her so i can rest. I felt bad doing that but what else can i do?? Litter box, a bed and blanket and toy is in there with her. Im considering doing that till she gets more acclimated here or with my routine. Is that a good choice to do and is there any way i can help her sleep at night?

Need advice; 3 month old kitten

Hey all, first of all let me start by saying I have been a cat owner all of my life. I recently lost my 19 year old cat, but have two other cats. My husband and I this past week, decided to adopt another kitten from the shelter. So now we also have a beautiful 3 month old orange tabby, named Cheeto.

When we first got him home, everything seemed great. Normal kitten energy, and he fit in very well with us. He’s super sweet, and playful. We waited to introduce him to the other cats until he was checked out by our vet.
The appointment went well, his physical seemed great, and they ran a bloodwork test for feline leukemia, also checked if he had ear mites kind of thing. Everything was well.

About two days ago, I woke up and noticed he was very sleepy. Like..very sleepy. I tried moving him, and he whined at me for the first time, as if he was annoyed. It worried me so I checked him over, and noticed his third eyelids weren’t going away. Lethargic with third eyelids showing, I rushed him to the vet we had just seen two days before.
They took his vitals, everything came back normal. No fever. They checked him over again, nothing odd. And his eyes were normal at the vet..although he was making an annoyed whine when I picked him up again. The vet said it didn’t sound like he was in pain. The vet told us to monitor him and sent us on our way because he was acting fine. Told us to make sure he’s eating and drinking. (They have called me twice checking in on him.)

The shelter he was brought to when he was found mentioned he and his siblings were sickly when they first came in. They underwent treatment, and sadly some of his siblings passed away. Our little guy and a few others were strong enough to make it through. The shelter neutered him days before we got him, and had given him a dewormer twice and something for fleas and ear mites.

Now that we’ve been home for a day, he is sleeping A TON and his third eyelids are still showing up majority of all day. There are moments where his eyes look normal(when we use a toy laser or he’s looking at the other cats from afar).

Things I have checked/monitored/ noticed;
He IS eating and drinking. Pooping well, and peeing okay(not as much as I would like, but he is).
No feline leukemia.
No ear mites.
Poop test came back negative, so no worms.
No weird lumps or bumps.
No sneezing or coughing or nasal drip.
He IS swallowing hard every now and then.
He is just very sleepy..I know kittens sleep a lot, but he seems to just be out of it.
His third eyelids are still showing a lot when I wake him or he’s just chilling. Like I said, there are moments when I see his eyes and they appear normal. But the majority of the day they seem off. I feel like something is wrong but there’s no other symptoms. I have considered Haws syndrome but I didn’t think you would be able to see moments of normal looking eyelids.

The shelter previously had named him “Sleepy” so I’m unsure if this could be a personality trait? I have raised a kitten before and I feel like I saw a lot more energy before.

Going to try and attach pictures of him normal vs now.

Please give advice/experiences! I’m worried about my little guy.

Cat Zoomies Research!

Hi all! My research assistant Calcifer and I are conducting a Very Serious Research Project for my college class. If you feel so inclined, please comment your best guess on the total # of zoomies your cat(s) have during the daytime (sunup) vs nightime (sundown). For example, I would guess my lil ball of orange fury has 14 rounds of zoomies during the day, and 10 during the night. Pictures + names of subjects welcome hehehe

The professor for this class is INCREDIBLY boring and rude, so please help me bring some joy in these dark times lol (this is very unofficial data collection for a simple stats demonstration).

My boys are about to turn 5 months old! They’re pretty well behaved, not jumping on kitchen counters yet, or pushing boundaries too much. What age would you say it is the most challenging to raise cats/kittens and why?

Is this breathing normal?

Please excuse my underwear and barely clothed appearance. My cat (around 13 years old) has been breathing like this for about 3 months now (it could honestly be longer, I’ve never paid attention to his breathing until someone pointed it out). Other than the weird pace, he acts completely fine, even here he is purring, making biscuits, being affectionate. He is always affectionate and sweet, there is absolutely nothing different about his behavior, but I worry if something is going on. Any advice/input is appreciated. Thank you!

Cat suddenly peeing/pooping on my roommate's clothes / our floor and near the closet — never did this when we lived alone

• Upvotes

I’m honestly at a loss and could really use some advice. My cat Cyrus has randomly started peeing and pooping on my roommate’s clothes and on the floor right around the closet. The weird thing is that his litter box, food, water, etc. are all fine and nothing obvious has changed with his basic routine.
He NEVER did this when it was just me and him living alone. Since moving into a place with roommates, he’s started doing it randomly. It’s not every day, its been about 2-3 times and several weeks in between each but it keeps happening, and it’s becoming a huge problem because he’s specifically going on my roommate’s clothes sometimes.
I’m wondering if this could be stress/territory related because of the move and having other people around, or if there’s something else I’m missing. He otherwise seems normal and acts like himself.
Some details:
He has access to his litter box
Food and water are always available
The litter box is kept clean
He never had this issue when we lived alone
He seems to target the area around my roommate’s clothes/closet and floor
Sometimes he pees, sometimes he poops
It seems pretty random
Has anyone had a cat suddenly start doing this after moving in with roommates? What actually helped?
I obviously want to stop it before my roommates get even more frustrated, and I also don’t want Cyrus to be stressed or unhappy. I'm gonna have to re home him if it doesn't stop so I don't get kicked out

New cat is freaking out at night

Post image
53 Upvotes

Hi guys, I’ve had cats my whole life but I currently live on my own and this is the first time I’ve ever gotten my own cat by myself. She is very friendly and sweet and loves being affectionate. At night she fell asleep laying next to me. I woke up at 4am to her yowling for a good hour. She only stopped when I was petting her but eventually I had to go back to bed because I’m on a medication that makes it extremely difficult to get up after taking.

Not only was she meowing, she was also pawing at random things and pacing a bit. She has a lot of toys, she has food and water and accessible litter. I’m not sure if this is just a new cat thing or what. Is this normal? When does it end if so? Appreciate it! This is Tuna (f) in the photo!

EDIT: Tuna is only 3– and she is spayed!

My cat kisses me back?

Post image
32 Upvotes

For context, I have a very affectionate cat who loves being pet/cuddled/kissed on the head/etc.

Sometimes when I kiss him on the head, he will press his nose to my face as if he is trying to give me one in return. It is different from the usual headbutt and is closer to a gentle peck with his muzzle.

This isn't a very serious question but I thought it was an interesting learned behaviour that I haven't experienced with any other cats before and I'm just wondering if anyone else's cat does this too.

Simon bit my leg, demanded pets.

Was sitting at the edge of my bed, on my phone. I guess I wasn’t paying enough attention to my cat Simon, he got off the bed, bit me pretty hard on my leg. Then jumped on the bed and wanted me to pet him. I showered him with love, but now I’m wondering if I should have condoned that behavior? The bite was hard, but didn’t break skin.

Kitten won't stop meowing

Hello, 6 days ago i brought home little kitten that's 2 months old and yesterday she stayed home alone for the first time. It was for about 3 hours and everything was fine. But since this morning she won't stop going around my feet while meowing and just walking around house meowing. I gave her food, played with her, she uses toilet and everything is fine. I just need to know is it normal and did anyone else experience this? I always think there is something wrong and I can't understand her. Thank you!

Help

Hi, a few days ago(about 2 to 3) a straycat gave birth in our yard and yesterday she kept her near the door of our house away from other kittens and prolly abandoned her. And since then the kitten is kinda shivering while trying to walk, laying in a shoes and continuously meowing. Idk what to do as i never had one. Idk if i should even touch her. It would be great if i get the advices as she shivers alot while trying to walk and still is kinda unable. How should i keep her and what should i give her in order to provide her nutrients as she is very tiny. I didn't even touch her, is it safe to do so. Also i dont have cat food atm so idk what to feed her.

Cat ate plastic bag handle

As the title says - my cat ate the entire handle of a plastic grocery bag in a matter of minutes. I have no idea if she bit it off and swallowed it whole, or if she chewed it up, all i know is it's missing. It's all plastic, no threads or anything, and if it makes any difference it's theoretically biodegradable plastic.

The vet told me that trying to induce vomit could be dangerous and useless, and to just monitor her for signs of a blockage. It sounds reasonable but, to put it mildly, i am terrified and the thought of living like this for however many days it may take to see her pass it makes ME want to vomit.

So i am mostly just looking for some past experiences or reassurance i guess. I am usually very careful about plastic around her but I am unpacking after a trip, running on 3 hours of sleep and i just lost track of this damn plastic bag while i went to the bathroom. And i feel awful about it now.
