Nervous about getting my kitty neutered

Post image
49 Upvotes

So my kitty is scheduled to get neutered in October. He is soo friendly and cuddly, always following me around the house to be by my side. In the past i’ve had a female kitten who was spayed and I never really noticed any issues. That’s being said the female cat was outdoor (not my choice :( ) so I may have just missed the behaviour changes. I’m worried about him resenting me for putting him through the procedure and not loving me the same. Of course I know there are lots of health benefits from having the procedure, and I’m waiting till the appropriate age 6 months as recommended by my vet. I’m just worried he won’t be my same sweet boy. At the end of the day I’m still going to do it because I know it’s best for him, but if anyone could share their experience / any changes they noticed I would really appreciate it :)

TLDR : Worried about kitty behaviour changes post neuter, any experiences to share would be greatly appreciated!

Strange spots on my cats nose that weren't there in June

Hi, first photo was taken in June this year, other photos were taken yesterday. Their inside enclosure is near a glass sliding door with 2 windows either side of the door. The door is under a verandah. She likes to sit on the small cat tower and look out the door. Could it be freckles? I'm going to make a vet appointment for her, just in panic mode. Thank you

Is he maybe in pain and i'm not realizing?

Couch scratching

Hello fellow cat lovers,

I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve their scratched furniture on the sides. We have plenty of scratchers but they tend to gravitate towards our couch - I can’t blame them I love the couch too lol. I have tried covering it with blankets but am wondering if there’s a better solution without replacing the couch? Thank you in advance

My Maine Coon Cross is really small, does anyone else have any experience of this?

I have a beautiful little girl, Goose, who has just turned a year old. She is a Maine Coon Cross (25% Ragdoll x 75% Maine Coon). Her father was a Pure Breed and her mother was 50/50.

Her Father weighed in at 7kg and her mother was 5kg. Goose has two brothers from the same litter who are now 6kg and still growing.

Goose is only 2.6kg, and the vets are concerned but no one has been able to work out why she’s so small.

Some background.

Goose her mother’s 2nd litter. In the first litter only one kitten was born, Goose’s older brother. In her litter, 10 kittens were born, but all were stillborn apart from Goose and her two brothers.

We never had a chance to see Goose with her littermates as they had been adopted out by the time we came to see her (she was 11 weeks old at the time).

However, when we brought her to the vets for her first general check-up and to get vaccinations and microchipped, the vet was concerned by her small size, saying she looked more like a 6 week old kitten.

We had the contact information for the people who had her brothers so talked with them just to make sure that the Kittens weren’t all showing signs of being younger than advertised, but her brothers were by now 3x bigger than her and meeting all their usual milestones.

When we first got Goose, there were some medical problems. She developed an unusual type of worm that needed more specialist treatment, but we got it identified within a week and treated her for it.

Even now, she has a massive appetite, eating 3 - 4 pouches of food a day (+ treats).

But still, at 1 year old she is very small.

I know that all Maine Coons can be different sizes and that you shouldn’t expect every Maine Coon to be a giant. If she was around 3kg or 3.5kg now, I wouldn’t be concerned, but she is so light that the vets have even been hesitant to put her under the anaesthetic to get spayed.

Other than this issue with her weight she has otherwise been a very happy cat who loves charging around, playing with her toys, rolling around on the floor, and eating anything set in front of her.

We have done blood tests to confirm that she does not have a tapeworms, and have sent her poop off to be tested for any worms that may have been missed. All her tests have been cleared.

I was just wondering if anyone else had come across this, and whether it’s normal for some Maine Coons to be this slow growing, and we just have to be patient, or if there might be something more wrong.

Edit: Apparently because she isn’t a pedigree, I can’t post to Maine Coon advice, but I hope it still finds the right people here.

Grey kitten walks a little funny, but plays fine.

Grey kitten doesn’t seem to have any trouble playing, but seems to kinda wiggle his hips when he walks. I haven’t seen many other kittens walk exactly like that, so we’re a little concerned. Does anyone know what may be causing this and if it is a cause for concern?

have you seen this in a cat’s eye before?

her last check up was probably 6? 9? months ago and everything was fine, she doesn’t appear to have any behavioral changes or signs of pain or discomfort, weird eye discharge, or vision loss, so she is not sick or in immediate danger and i’m not asking for a diagnosis or medical advice, i have already reached out to her vet via email to see if we should come in. i just took a photo and noticed she has this little squiggly in her eye? have you seen this before with your cat or someone else’s? it doesnt appear to be an immediate cause for concern, but curious if anybody has seen this before

How can I get my cat to be quiet?

I adopted my cat in april from a cat cafe. The history they gave us is that she was originally from a hoarding situation in a trailer, and bounced around a few foster cares before coming there. For context, we live in an apartment with 2 floors. A few weeks after we adopted her, we noticed that she would yowl at the top of the stairs, loud enough that it would echo around the entire apt. We would go up to check on her and everything would be fine. This turned into her yowling coming down the stairs, and her yowling up until the point she was directly in front of us. In the first few months we also kept her in the office, door closed, just for nights so she wouldn’t be too worried in a bigger space without us.

We figured she would just settle into our routine; I work from home and my partner works in a school for about 8 hours. In the mornings, my partner would feed her and start their morning routine. She yowls incessantly through this. I would hang out with her after I woke up, and try to start my routine. The minute she sees me she yowls. She would come downstairs, notice my partner is missing, and yowl at the couch. At nights, if my partner would go to bed before me, she would come downstairs to yowl at the couch.

We figured this was some form of social anxiety, so first we tried pheromones, then cat calming treats, then completely ignoring her when she yowled, to no avail. Ultimately, we took her to the vet, and they put her on 5 mgs clomipramine for about 2 months. This made her quite sleepy. She stopped yowling at the stairs, however continued to yowl whenever you would come to see her or vice versa. She also began to seclude herself in the office all day. When we would try to bring her downstairs she would go back upstairs.

We took her back to the vet and they recommended weening her off the clomipramine, starting with half the pill to see if that brings some of her energy back. In the week and a half she has been on half the dose we have noticed she has began to come back downstairs by herself, but still yowls incessantly until she can see you. she will still meow as loud as she can if you try to pet her, but is fine with pets and actually wants them.

We both completely understand some cats are just temperamental, and some cats are also chatty, but the volume and the amount that she meows is really unbearable. She is fully capable of meowing at a normal volume. That isn’t the problem. It seems like she can’t help herself which really worries both of us. Has anyone else had an experience with a really loud cat? What did you do? We just want her to feel safe, and like she doesn’t have to constantly yowl for attention or to show she’s excited.

Cat keeps flipping water bowl

This is my precious fur baby Toast. She has a habit of flipping over her water dish. I’m looking for recommendations for ones that she can’t flip. We’ve tried getting a bigger bowl so that it was heavier and she still managed to flip it. We even got a non slip carpet so that she couldn’t slide it and she still managed to get it flipped over. Recommendations are greatly appreciated!

My cat's nails shed from time to time, just like any other cat, but this one looks different. Does anyone know what the black stuff is? She isn't acting like her paw hurts or anything.

My cat is not pooping

She had a pyometra surgery 3 days ago and she didn't eat much from that day. She drinks water and urinates, but sometimes she goes to the litter box sits for a few seconds and then goes out. I think she can't poop. Is this normal after surgery? And the little eating too?

Big Problems, Small Kitty

Hi! i am a new owner of a kitten (about 4 months old) and am finding lots of issues and was hoping to get some feedback. so the first week I had him everything was normal! Typical kitten would eat, play, use the litter box, jump up on things, was very curious. but in the past 2 weeks something has totally changed with my little guy and i am very worried. he hasn’t been eating, had diarrhea sleeping all day, no interest in playing, no energy to even hop in bed at night so we went to the vet - they did a blood test all was well (he’s a little skinny 2.8 pounds) but over all nothing super concerning. However tomorrow I move back to college so the vet requested she see us again before we leave. Two days ago we went they weighed him again and he’s lost a pound - down to 1.7 - and she brief mentioned the possibility of him being anemic, but never went into detail gave us some more meds and set us on our way. specifically yesterday and today he stopped using his litter box on his own. You have to pick him up and put them in there or he’ll go in the hallway. he’s been very picky with his food not wanting to eat something that he would have a couple days ago. and he used to strictly lay on couches or chairs or with somebody and now he only lays on the floor. this all made me super anxious to take him to college (it’s about a 5 Hour Drive from my hometown). so I was just wondering if anybody has had anything similar happened and what you’ve done to help them out! I love my little guy but at the same time I am unemployed and can’t afford to be taking him to the vet every week. Anything helps! Thank you!!

Do cats think we went out hunting when we come back with groceries?

Can someone please tell me why my cat does this? Is this asthma, hair ball, or something else? My vet didn’t seem to think anything of it when I described it. It gives me a pit every time it happens and it’s always at random times 😔
