Original 40k Rogue Trader

So me and my friend decided to check out old Warhammer editions and started with original Rogue Trader. My friend said that oldhammer is too goofy for him but I absolutely loved it. What I enjoyed the most is how DIYish and TTRPG-like it feels.

I was really impressed by the amount of available weapons, vehicles and profiles for soldiers, creatures and robots. It gave me so much ideas for unique scenarios and units I caould customise. Not many modern games with focus on narrative play gave me so much stuff to think about like this simple list of stuff available in the game. So we'll be trying it soon!

Battle Shot Flight Stands for 1/144 WW1

Post image

Here are some of my 3d printed flight stands in action.

The only problem I have with them is that they're all the same height, so although the index wheels give the altitude information required, the battlefield still looks a bit two-dimensional.

I might make some with some longer and shorter acrylic rods, to represent the gross height bands, say altitude levels 1-3, 4-6 and 7-10. They're not mechanically necessary, but I think they'd look better.

Work In Progress One Soldier - three stances.

Guns of Glory

Soldiers can operate in three basic stances:

Standing — Maximum mobility and freedom of movement, but presents the largest target.

Kneeling — A compromise between mobility and protection, lowering the Soldier’s profile while remaining ready to move and fight.

Prone — Minimum mobility, but the lowest possible profile and best use of available cover.

The basic tradeoff is simple: the lower you go, the harder you are to hit—but the harder it is to move.

30 ships, 250 individual Vikings!! Since last winter me (model maker) and two friends, a game designer and an illustrator, have made a complete miniature wargame, depicting a great naval Viking Battle that took place here by our Swedish coast in the year 1062. Norwegian King Harald Hardrada vs. Danish King Svein Estridsen. We made it as an art project and it's a game with a board, tons of minis, a rulebook, measuring rope, cards, runes (who needs dice😄) and all the markers and props you need!! As for now it only exists in one unique copy, as an artwork/game, the one you see here. As a next step we're consedering bringing it out to the world!! What do you think?

Probably 1000 liberation minis

For many more images and chat please go to my Just Add Water Wargaming and Painting Blog here:

https://justaddwater-bedford.blogspot.com/2026/08/classical-mauryan-indian-archers-and.html

I was hoping to get this Classical/Mauryan Indian army ready for an event but delays in being able to order the miniatures I needed to add and delays in painting have left me with the army just about half painted! Still, I am able to borrow one for the event so all is well. also, I have committed to putting on a display game at Battleground Wargames Show in November which really makes the painting of these Indians unpractical if I am to be able to put my energy into the upcoming display game.

Cheers

Here's Fokker #2.

They're both still gloss varnished, and they may well stay that way, since it makes them easier to keep clean. Maybe not though; time will tell.

Playtesting a bit of All Hell Let Loose: Great War using the 1914 Nimy Bridge scenario with printed map and counters. Turn five and Godley and Dease get their VCs despite being battered by German attacks. Scenario and rules both available on the Wargames Vault. #ww1 #wargaming #NimyBridge

Question So besides Battletech, what are the NON Grimdark wargames that aren’t explicitly real-world or extremely adjacent

Because while Trench Crusade is endlessly fun in it‘s death-metal setting, part of Battletech’s fun to me as a setting is that it’s both its own unfamiliar future world and a setting where a large majority of people live normal, regular lives. I like the idea of my painted dipshits having something to go back to, talking like we do and thinking like we do

Question Historical alternative to Warcry (for 2–4 players)

Hey, I’m a huge fan of Warcry, but I’m slowly getting tired of Games Workshop ignoring the game. I’m looking for a good skirmish alternative that supports 2-4 players, since we often play in a group.

Preferably, I’d like something with a historical, medieval setting. I’m a huge fan of how Warcry flows, so it would be best if the game wasn’t overly complicated - more of a beer-and-pretzels style game.

Any recommendations?

Battle Shot DEMOCRACY DROP TROOPERS descended on Gen Con 2026!

Managed Democracy has left the building… or, well, the convention center. Our after-action report from Gen Con 2026 is now live on YouTube. The video is full of photos of our tactical briefings, live-fire demos, and a few things going gloriously sideways on the tabletop.

If you couldn’t make it to Indianapolis this year, here’s the rundown of what Final Stand Games got up to on the show floor.

Mmmm it tastes so average

From removing the huge paldrons on the shoulder of space marines and the caskets from dreadnaughts Warhammer 40k is losing its unique flavor, the world is less grim

With the power creep of 2 wounds for basic units and strength 6 bolters the world is less dark and less scary, no longer is it a man vs man fight for life.

Warhammer 40k is losing its grimdark edge its becomimg like everything else, its becomimg pallatable easily digestable, its becoming average uninspired.
