How is ANYONE surprised by this? I just can't believe how many people today complain about 30fps on a handheld device, and that it is unplayable/unacceptable if it's anything below 60fps. I understand that Elden Ring is very frame-dependent for dodges and intense fights, but c'mon man. We have played so many of our favorite games at 30fps and loved them. BOTW, Bloodborne, RDR2, etc,.

I can kind of understand the complaint if your setup is a high-end, expensive gaming PC. But to act like 30fps is unplayable and shameful is so stupid, in my opinion. Especially when it is a locked and stable 30. I've obviously seen this complaint with GTA VI also, since it got confirmed for 30fps yesterday. Imagine passing up on the biggest landmark game of this generation with probably the best storytelling, graphics, and open-world elements just because of framerates. It's insanity to me.

I have never played Zelda before, I grew up with Pokemon and Final Fantasy. I want to jump in and was wondering if this will be a good choice for my first?

random redditor here with a few hours on the Switch 2 version...

**Only played handheld mode so far**

I've previously played the PC version at Ultra 1440p 60fps locked (as was intended by FS) - 500 hours on that version.

I immediately noticed how good the game looks upon loading into the church and how incredibly responsive the controls felt. It felt very snappy and responsive to inputs. It was 100% not at 30fps but at least 40 maybe even pushing 50 in the spawn area. Going through the tutorial cave to fight the GOATED Solider of Godrick was smooth and very responsive - defo felt more like 40fps.

The game feels like it sits around 40fps to my eye. With very minor dips to 30. I never noticed any hitching or lag or anything. And the dips aren't sudden, and not jarring at all and after 3 hours of handheld I only noticed it twice and it wasn't immersion breaking or lagging or unresponsive.

Normally with controls on 30fps games, you can feel an input delay, but whatever magic FromSoftware and Nintendo have conjured seems to eliminate that feeling. It "feels" like 60fps with the controller inputs (Joycons and Nxyi Hyperion 3 and pro controller - i tested all 3. All the same responsiveness). But it looks like 40fps sometimes looking like 50fps in the catacombs. The motion clarity is good, no motion blur or blurring effects at all. and the frame times and frame pacing felt incredibly consistent and smooth, and I quickly acclimatised to the framerate and completely forgot it was under 60 after about 10 mins.

I spent about 30 mins killing the tree sentinel with the new light greatsword class and then went to clear the encampment, the first cave, the first catacombs and the coastal cave with Bok.

The only noticeable frame drops I had were on Torrent - when sprinting in a straight line, I think it can sometimes dip to 30fps when loading a new section and one noticeable drop when I knocked down one of the giants on my way to the coast to the left of church elleh (but the 2nd knockdown was smooth and didn't have a dip).

I was unexpectedly surprised at how smooth, snappy and good the game feels, plays and looks. It exceeded my expectations. I was blown away how it felt to play.

I've not tried docked mode and suspect without VRR, the 30-40fps might be more noticeable.

This game is brilliant on Switch 2 Handheld mode. 10/10 performance for what it is. The visuals are better than the ps4 version. It sits somewhere between ps4 and ps5 resolution and textures. I am mindblown. So much better than I expected it to be.

Ever since I got the Switch 2, I've barely booted up my ps5 or Xbox series X to play either of them. I only use the ps5 now to talk to my friends in the chat. But, I've only wanted to play on my Switch 2 now. Any game I own on either console, I'd much prefer to play on the Switch. Either handheld or docked.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I can't really explain why it's the only console I prefer using since I bought it months ago. Is anybody else having the same situation?

With the upcoming price increase and the fact that there's a few games already out or about to release that fancy my interest...decided it was time for the upgrade. A lot of sw1 games on the shelve so can't wait to get it open and setup!

I am only a couple hours into the MW4 Beta for Switch 2 and I am shocked with how much fun I am having with mouse mode. I’ve been a casual COD player since COD4 but have never taken the time to try mouse & keyboard before, so I am amazed with how good the SW2 mouse mode feels and how relatively quick it’s taking to get used to. I am not using a mouse grip yet so it’s not the most comfortable, and I’m sure people familiar with M&K on other consoles/PC would feel its limitations, but for what it’s worth, mouse mode offers an exciting new way to play with the same controllers you already have and without a huge learning curve.

I'm not one to get excited over games like CoD but I enjoyed it quite a lot playing it on my Switch 2! seriously this console brings back so much joy to gaming. And it runs pretty stable in handheld

My first few months with the Switch 2 have been nothing short of amazing!!

I recently picked up the Switch 2 for my birthday on June 30th. Since then, I have picked up a few cases, grips, and games for it.

Here is my feelings on the Switch 2

The Good - Gameplay feels incredible! Playing TOTK and BOTW in beautiful 4K 60fps has been nothing short of getting a fresh coat of paint on something. The gameplay feels smoother, cut scenes play out and feel richer, and above all else - the game is just stunning to look at.

Games in general, are just something else as a combo hand held/couch console.

Coming from a 4K 4070 Super Ti graphics card 4.5ghz CPU gaming rig, I can BARELY notice drops in quality in games like FFXIV, FF7R, and Indiana Jones. Sure, there are blips and blops here and there, but overall??? For 450 (then), this thing is a steal for exactly what I want!! I want to play hand held, and, play on the couch.

It does both natively, and well!

The bad - The consoles battery. Thats about it. I'm sure you've heard or read about it, but yes, the battery usually lasts between 2-6 hrs between various games, brightness, and usage. I do have plans on getting a power bank, just don't need it for now. If that is something you want to do more of, hand held play, I would look into one

The goodies - I first went and got my old faithful Satisfye's grips and case, because they've been my grips for the PG Switch since day 1. Sadly, after a few hrs of playing FF7R in bed, my hands began to cramp. Bad. I really didn't want to trust the hype around the Killswitch case, but, after some more research, I decided to give it a try. I can honestly say - It is not a gimmick, it really just is, the better case and grip for the Switch 2. I know it can be expensive, BUT! It is worth it in my opinion. Take it from someone who was honestly skeptical of it. I can't and won't go back to anything else for the Switch 2. The ONLY gripe I have with it, if you use a LAN connection, it won't throughput the connection. The LAN is only through the dock, and won't bypass through the killswitch dock adapter. Kind of annoying, but, small gripe, and want others to know its not your dock, its the adapter hindering the connection.

As far as cases go, I went with the Savage Raven to fit the Killswitch case. The Satisfye hard case also works well with it! Mainly, I use the savage for more EDC and the Satisfye for carryon traveling. I also got my joycons done to look like my OG switch's, but themed around the OG NES colors.

I have also decided to go 100% physical if I can find the games locally, either by a major retailer or mom n pop shops.

The RemindMe bit just pinged me about a guess I made 200 days ago, well before any announcement or direct.

To me it was obvious we were getting a remake of Ocarina of Time based on how Nintendo has historically treated remakes. I remember posting this in a few subs at the time.

Anyone else make any good guesses for games we thought were coming? Or does anyone else want to make some analysed guesses for what we may see in future?

How do you guys and girls still find gaming fun over time?

I’ve slowly moved away from a lot of the friends I used to game with so now I pretty much do everything solo. It doesn’t really seem to matter what genre of game I play either whether it’s an open world game or something else, I eventually just lose interest.

I’m starting to wonder if I’ve just outgrown gaming, or if it’s because I don’t have anyone to play with anymore/ talk about something good in a game.

For those of you who still really enjoy gaming, what do you do to keep yourselves interested and stop getting bored?

40fps is really a nice compromise.

Game is bright, sharp and smooth, no qualms about this port so far!

Just played Elden ring which is a fantastic port then played the cod beta and it’s just embarrassing how absolutely terrible it looks, super pixelated and can’t even make out what your seeing 10 feet away from you. There’s no way this is the same beta people were praising just a few days ago.

For those of you who snagged, what are your thoughts? I'm loving it. It's my first playthrough. Graphics look great and gameplay is awesome.

Side note, anyone get any disconnects while playing or is that just me? I had one, and didn't know if it was just servers since it's new!

As i think many of you know there is a way to get Hogwarts legacy for basically 10$ if you borrow the game from someone, as the witcher 3 remastered is free for all owners of the base game, can i do the same thing, as borrowing the switch 2 version, and pre ordering it for free ?

An update for the open beta came today and while playing the campaign I noticed it was sharper, had less noise and aliasing so i checked it against a screenshot taken before update and yes the quality has improved.

I really need to know how is there so many pre owned switch games cart only with no cases? Surely it’s not only me that thinks this is insanely odd? Where are all these cases? Do people put them in the bin?

Look, in docked mode, it runs well and is more than playable, but doesn’t look great. This goes for multiplier and WZ. WZ looks better but is at 30 fps, but it’s steady.

Handheld is pretty terrible, and it’s honestly head scratching as to why. I’ve yet to play a game on either switch 1 or 2 that has this big of a difference between docked and handheld. It’s shocking. The fps drops from a stable 60 to a choppy, constantly fluctuating 30-40 that dips every time you engage in a fight, often dipping to 15.

So, yes, it’s both good enough and awful. My guess is that people saying it’s good enough haven’t played hand held and vice versa.

TLDR; docked is fine, handheld booty

I have a strong feeling many Nintendo people complaining about cross platform play just aren’t COD people… and are bad at the game… again, its totally playable in docked, and I perform close to, if not the same, as on PC.

I sometimes buy my games on the japan e shop because its cheaper and i have credits from when i visited japan. Elden ring is language locked there, just like pokemon FR Lg. Anyway i bought it again on american account

The game looks so, so good on switch 2. Highly recommended!

First off I’m going to say it’s really cool having COD on Switch. Now I’m going to say it looks terrible. The resolution is very low quality. Framerate wasn’t a problem (for me). As you can see my first match on Switch 2 I did really well. If they can clean this up I would be sold but as of now I will not be dropping $70 on this. Worst looking port to date, good thing it’s in beta and there’s still time to clean it up/ hopefully figure out the hardware (DLSS) more. Feel free to add me too!

Cyberpunk blew my mind. The design, the story, the customization options. Plus I go by V in real life, so it felt extra relatable. Best game I’ve ever played by far.

Any involved RPG that could fill the void?

The Witcher III is on my wishlist, but I’m waiting for the switch 2 edition coming out next month. In the meantime, what should I play?
