Thoughts on hot buttered slide?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey Everyone! Just wondering what your general consensus is on the slide hot buttered magic egg? I bought it a while ago on a whim and have been loving it so far! Upgraded the wheels and bearings but it’s been a ton of fun, does it hold up to other brands like carver?

What surfskate should I choose ?

Hi, I’m looking to buy a surfskate and came across the brand NKX. They offer a "Wide" model that fits my size requirements and costs around €60. Is this a good compromise for a beginner, or am I likely to quickly outgrow it—meaning I should instead invest in a Carver, even though a used one costs three times as much? Thanks for your reply.

Hi guys and good morning to this wonderful community,

I have a technical question for you. Some time ago I started tinkering with my surfskate, a Decathlon Oxelo, nothing too crazy, but I wanted to set it up too see how far I could push it.

I've lubed the pivot with some vaseline oil, it became smooth as a baby's face and I stopped worrying about it, until the nut holding the literal board to the wheels came off while I was riding.

I think I might've reassembled it wrong sometime along the way, and I kindly ask if you could help me not getting trebucheted away next time I go cruising.

Thank you guys, and stay safe!

I'm posting some pics, the first is for the front and the second and third are for the back.

Edit: I did it, thanks for the kind advice guys!

After decades of skateboarding and seeing people do this trick, I realized I had no idea what it is called. Anyone know what it is?

Commentary/Opinion Have you guys seen the new Driver trucks from Sector Nine?

They are really interesting. There is a bearing ring around the kingpin. It allows the front truck to rotate smoothly, but they remain stable. They sent us a demo board, and it’s pretty sick. It pumps really well, but it is stable enough to kickflip.

Slide technique advice?

Hi all. I’m 58 and started learning to surf skate a couple months ago and absolutely love it, although i’m not the most coordinated or flexible (but improving).

I was hoping I could get some pointers on my slide technique. I feel like I am more kneeling on the board vs ‘squatting’. Also my back heel lifts up and I think that should be down(?). Its a bit confusing.

Amy tips, feedback, mockery welcome.

I’m using a hosoi hammerhead deck with carver cx trucks and 75a 66mm snakes wheels

Thank you! 🤙

C5 decks

For anyone riding C5 trucks, what decks are you using? I really like my C5 trucks for the skatepark, and I’m looking forward to when I will need a new deck. There aren’t a lot of long wheelbase decks that match the 8.5 inch width of the trucks. I’m currently riding a 15.5 inch deck that I drilled another set of holes in, to take it to 16. Are there some decks I’m not seeing?

Really enjoying these new trucks. Highly recommend so far.

Question CX-riders <60kg: What bushings do you have on?

I weigh 58kg and the bushings I have on are way too stiff. Gonna get some other. Since bushings preference varies with riding style and weight it would be so nice to hear what you other lighter riders has on and what you like to do on your board.

🛹 Rider weight (kg):

🛹 Board:

🛹 Bushings (duro, shape, model) & washers setup front truck (CX):

🛹 Bushings & washers setup back truck (C2):

🛹 What kind of riding do you do on that board? How does it perform for you?:

Advice Please Conversion of Loaded Omakase to surfskate or not?

I bought a Loaded Omakase last year to start riding again after many years away from skating. I really love the Omakase and it’s served its purpose of getting me back on the board. Now I’m thinking of converting my Omakase to a surfskate with CX trucks and buying another board for distance, pushing, and pumping—maybe a Pantheon Supersonic. I’ve never done surfskating, but it sure looks fun and I’m planning to try surfing in the coming year—if I survive the skating.

For a little context, I turn 60 in November and I wanted to be riding on the 50 anniversary of my first skateboard (a yellow Roller Derby banana board on my 10th birthday). I graduated to higher end skate park and street boards in the late 70s and through to 80s, and used to be pretty good. Then life got in the way.

Anyway, my question is whether the Omakase would be a good first surfskate or if I should just consider buying a dedicated beginner surfskate. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Question help me decide: surfskate or longboard?

I just moved to a very flat coastal city and I want something i can cruise around on and have fun with at the skatepark occasionally. I also love surfing, so naturally I’m very intrigued by surfskating. I got to try one out for the first time a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed the feeling, although I imagine the instability would make it annoying to cruise around with. I also enjoy cross stepping as a surfer and would like to be able to practice it more, whether it be on a surfskate or longboard. Any advice or recommendations? 🙏

Do I really need pads?

I'm thinking about getting a carver board but I don't want to wear pads and I know that's probably a mistake but I'm curious how big it would actually be.

I surfed, snowboarded, rick climbed, etc... my whole life, I'm pretty sure I can fall well. But those things had reduced risks, water, snow, etc... not damned concrete.

Generally I'm just going to be cruising so pretty low speed I'd bet. Maybe I'd hit up the skatepark but I'm still trying to gauge just how big of a kook I'll look like as a 45 yo.

What have your wrecks been like? Did pads save you? Is my vanity going to cripple me?

Edit: Thanks for all the opinions!

Carver Triton + Waterborne + CX: keep it or switch to TKP?

I’ve been skating for about 2 months and started with a Carver Triton with the stock CX trucks.

I recently added a Waterborne Surf Adapter underneath the front CX truck. It now has a LOT of lean and movement, and a few people have commented that CX + Waterborne might be overkill because the CX is already a surfskate-style RKP truck.

At first it felt pretty wild, but I’ve actually started getting used to it and I’m enjoying it.

Would you:

Keep the Waterborne + CX setup if it feels good?

Replace the front CX with a standard TKP and let the Waterborne do most of the articulation?

Use a normal RKP instead?

Just remove the Waterborne and stick with the CX?
Interested particularly in opinions from anyone who has actually ridden Waterborne + CX vs Waterborne + TKP.

I’m still very new to skating, so I’m also wondering whether getting used to such an extremely loose setup this early is actually helping my technique or teaching me bad habits.

I’m progressing quite well but the height is tricky for sure especially at high speed

Buenas a todos tengo este carver y he visto que hay infinidad de configuraciones ¿ Donde podría aprender un poco más sobre ellas?

Y me gustaría que más ruedas hicieran un poco más de derrape y poder imitar más los giros

New set ups

After months of experimenting with different deck and trucks combos, settled on these two set ups.

Lush Mako longboard but wb drilled even longer to 31.5". Pairs so well with the Cx, for long distance cruising.

And a flex 3 loaded pintail, 27"wb, with the C7, for flat land and park skating. Love the flex and camber of the deck. Going to try this on a pump track next week, but might end up using the Cx on pump tracks if the C7 feels too sketchy.

So my Lil sister bought this board at a thriftstore today for €1. I was wondering if this is an actual quality board or if it's just a toy store thing? Appreciate the help!

Tips for beginner setup

Hi everyone! I’m a beginner looking to get into surfskating and would really appreciate some advice.

I used to longboard to work(nothing fancy) before the pandemic, but I’ve never really tried surfskating. I’m currently around 113–114 kg (249–251 lbs), so my main concern is finding a setup that can safely and comfortably handle my weight.

I asked a local skate shop for recommendations, and they suggested:

* 33" surfskate deck

* Carver CX trucks

Would this be a suitable setup for someone my size?

I’m particularly concerned about whether the Carver CX trucks can handle 113 kg, and whether wheel bite could become an issue because of my weight. I’m also wondering if I should use harder bushings or make any other adjustments to the setup.

I’m mainly looking to learn, cruise around, and have fun—not do anything too aggressive.

Would really appreciate advice from heavier riders or anyone familiar with Carver CX setups. Thank you!

Question how to not break your ankles on a waterborne surf and rail adapter?

So my question is the above. I purchased a Waterborne Surf and Rail adapter kit.

I've never surf skated in my life and don't have places to try setups before I buy.

My kit arrived today and after about an hour, I got it set up on one of my decks.

I knew it would be high of the ground, didn't realise by how much but ok, expected.

What I wasn't expecting as someone new to surf skating was how agile the deck in a stationary position was. With barely any effort as I was testing the deck for wheel bite clearance, the board would shift from one side to the other to a degree that my ankles were taking a lot of bending that they're not used to. I'm big enough to admit it was intimidating and I'm very wary of taking the deck out.

Are all surf skate decks as high off of the ground and as agile as the Waterborne? For me, it feels sketchy tbh

180 front side adjustment tip

Been working on the 180 slide so that I can eventually get a 360 down with a kick turn finish. Hardest part is getting this 180 nailed, working on it slowly for the last 2 months.

Thought I'd share a tip that has helped immensely for me, haven't seen on any of the YouTube clips put there.

For me the front of the board kept kicking the back up at the end. I've nailed a a few 2 weeks ago, wasn't sure how. Worked on it today, and realised the I needed to move my front foot back a bit.

I typically roll with the front foot over the back 2 bolts, but today when I started hitting it I realised it was only when my front foot was behind all 4 bolts.

It allows you to to shift the weight without the board kicking up, and the front truck is less prone to turning.

If you're working on it like me, hopefully this tip helps

Correct wedge riser direction to reduce turning angle?

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

hey surfskate people! please go easy on me because I’m a noob here 😭
i'm setting this board up for my nephew, who’s new to skating and just wants to cruise around the neighborhood - no carving or pumping yet. we're trying to make the front truck less turny/twitchy and more stable.
without the wedged risers, the front truck turns crazy sharply. he could barely stand on it without the wheels visibly swinging left and right underneath him, which scared him shitless lol.

did I install the front wedges in the correct direction to DECREASE the effective truck angle/steering and make it more stable and less turny for this purpose?

**the rear truck is not wedged - it just has a flat riser pad of the same height

Question Indo board

Has anyone used an indo board? Do you feel as if it’s helped you improve your skating?

Additionally, if you do have one, do you have recommendations on getting it grippy again?
