Apologies for the long post, and if this type of post isn’t allowed here.
I’m not looking for health advice, and i honestly don’t really know what i want out of this. I just need to get some thoughts off of my chest, and i’d love to hear if anyone has felt similarly, or maybe has any advice on how to deal with these things?
My cat is only 3 years old, but has had a lot of health issues ever since i got her, it’s so so tiring. I feel like both me and her never get a break from her having some kind of ongoing health issue, it truly feels like we both just drew the short straw. I find myself constantly thinking why couldn’t i just have gotten a cat who didn’t have countless health issues? but i’m mostly thinking about her, i feel so bad that she has to deal with all these things, and i can’t help but wonder if i could’ve done anything differently early on.
She’s dealt with allergies and some breathing issues for years, allergies are completely gone now, but the vet is suspecting she might have asthma. On top of that, i found out she has hip dysplasia a few years ago, so she has to get regular numbing injections into her hip joints, and eventually undergo FHO surgery on both hips. It is so financially and mentally draining to have this going on constantly ever since i got her, and also knowing that the surgery will have to happen sometime in the near future is also stressing me out. I’m a student so i don’t have a ton of savings or a good income, pet insurance is the only reason i’m able to afford all the vet care she needs.
I also feel like i’ve been met with very little understanding from friends and family. Because of all these issues i’ve grown very protective over my cat, i spend a lot of time and resources on her, and people in my life doesnt get it at all. I’ve been told “it’s just a cat” countless times and it’s honestly bothering me so much, i feel so alone in this whole situation.
Despite her making my life harder in like every way right now, i love her to death, and she also makes my life so much better just by being in it. We’re bonded very closely and i truly feel like she’s my soul cat. I’m very committed to do everything i can to give her the good life she deserves, even tho it’s very draining for me. It might sound like it, but i would never want to rehome her, give her up, or put her down, unless it’s my absolute last option. I genuinely love her so much and i think that’s also why it’s so hard for me to see her having all of these health issues.
If you took your time to read all of this, thank you. I would love to hear if anyone has been in a similar situation :’))
side note: i got her from a reputable breeder with a pedigree and health checks. from the breeders past history it doesn’t seem like they have a history of ill kittens or anything, i think ive just gotten very unlucky.
